I really want to like them. They are everything I want in a game. Open levels you are free to approach however you like, a possible stealth approach, nice attention to detail and one of the later games even had native Linux support. But I never could get hooked to the story like other people seem to be.
I came to the conclusion (based on other games and media as well) that I just don’t like cyberpunk dystopias. Maybe because we’re in one, Miss Turner.
Visually maybe but not gameplay wise. They are very much Metroidvanias (that genre isn’t called that by chance) where you collect gear to open up the maps more and more and shoot aliens on the way.
I really loved Prime 3 on the Wii. One of the few shooters that played well on there. I got the trilogy when that was ported but got stuck somewhere in the first game. Was too proud to look up a walkthrough.
Yeah, the Spider-Man games are a good comparison. A ton of different moves you can do but most of them are pretty easy and intuitive to pull of. I’m patiently waiting for Spider-Man 2 to arrive on PC.
I think I’ll invest a few more hours into Arkham Knight and if I can’t get into it I’ll try Origins. And if that one doesn’t do it for me either I’ll just play Asylum again.
