sure, we can quibble on the threshold of “popular” here. but you can’t question that WOW caused an absolute explosion in MMOs after it. not like anything before.
well the difference with steam is they don’t have upvotes and downvotes, they have “helpful” and “funny”. sure some people don’t use them properly, but it’s something. Maybe it would help Lemmy and reddit to bring in a funny vote too if you’re just looking for some laughs.
they should just have a sorting option as on Lemmy/reddit. let people choose to sort by helpful, humorous, controversial, etc. at set a default of their own preference.
yeah I don’t really see either of those options as problematic. quite common to explain away powers in RPG sequels, and CDPR might very well want to go in a different gampleay direction than Witcher combat.
but by nature MMOs are extremely static in terms of the world, NPCs etc because they have to be there for every PC at every stage of their story. To me that always makes them feel less alive despite a bunch of PCs scurrying around.
