acosmichippo, do gaming w Nexus Mods says folks "should be pressuring" paid mod platforms to "do better" if they're frustrated by its new policy on the ever-controversial topic
@acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

If anyone else just wanted this article to get to the fucking point already, here is the original nexus post:

I was with you up until the shift away from multiplayer part. I do not see that happening at all, and I don’t even like multiplayer games myself. There’s no denying that more multiplayer has been the trend for the last 30 years, spanning multiple (people) generations, and I don’t see AI changing that.

acosmichippo, do games w Are any games using neural networks for better hard AI that doesn't cheat?
@acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

yeah I would like to leverage AI for stuff like RPG NPCs. instead of hearing the same filler lines for 200 hours of gameplay, barely reacting to the context of your game you could have a vibrant array of endless dialog that actually keeps up with your game progress (or lack thereof).

I think that is a different feature than what the article is talking about.

I think the takeaway here is that these things are not important to gamers. a few of us complain about it online, but clearly we are outnumbered in the market.

acosmichippo, do games w Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 sucks up to 180 Mb/s of internet bandwidth while in flight — equivalent to 81GB of data per hour
@acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

because 1) the figure in the headline is only the most extreme value they found. 2) the image generated by your GPU is only one perspective of the entire 3D environment. maybe in order to download the area you’re also downloading objects that don’t need to be displayed on your screen yet. And 3) cloud streaming videos are also heavily compressed.

because it takes more data to generate the image than the image itself, especially in highly detailed and dense areas.

acosmichippo, do games w Suggestions? Games that won't make me feel alone?
@acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

Since OP likes open world games, in the later Bethesda RPGs like Skyrim and Fallout 4 you can have companions. not the same level of interaction as Bioware-like parties, but it’s something.

also not really an open world game, but in Midnight Suns you’re a mystical hero in a party with some of the avengers, other marvel heroes, and even some villains. there’s a lot of personal interactions with all the members between missions.
