Rentlar, do games w Cities Skylines 2 dev stuck to launch date despite “potential kicking”

A laptop with a 1660ti 6GB got me 20-25fps 1080p low to medium around 10- 20k population. But I turned nearly everything off except for level of detail. Turning off Vsync somehow made it run around 5fps faster.

So it scales with VRAM and GPU not, CPU?

Precisely. Not to sound too much like a shill because full disclosure I bought and I’m very excited for C:S2, but I find some of the concern is overblown. Yes the performance is a MAJOR problem, but the game is feature complete and optimization is ongoing, with significant improvements to arrive by console release.

Might be good to have a watch of City Planner Play’s Benchmarking video

To answer your main Q from this, apparently the biggest performance dropoff is going from no pop to 10k, scaling up to 100k isn’t nearly the same dropoff.

Even with a beefy setup on high settings, CPP suggests turning off many of the post-processing effects and definitely disable VSync. Lastly 4K is out of the question for most cards, barely playable for top end enthusiast cards, Most will be limited to 1080p for a usable experience.

The good news from this video is that for anything above a 970 it is possible to get to late game, as long as you stick to 1080p low-med settings on any card with less than 8GB VRAM.

Idk, having delivered on what the game purported to be in the trailer is nice imo. Due to the ambition and relatively short window between announcement and release, delaying it to resolve performance issues on PCs would have heightened expectations further than what would have been developed for it.

Performance issues I know are game breaking for many gamers and I can respect that. To me, it’s one negative within many positives. My 50k cities in CS:1 are a lagfest anyway.

Yes.

Ubisoft has announced that people who have the game and official DLCs, will continue to be able to use them after delisting.

And as far as I can tell, the game still works despite not connecting to Ubisoft servers, so Ubisoft would have to release an update to the game purposely to break its offline function (now I wouldn’t put it past Ubi to do it but unlikely).

If you have purchased RS2014 you will still be able to use it, and with the DLC installed you will still be able to play custom maps though I presume the amount of submissions will continue to dwindle.

Generally it will work. If it’s recognized as an audio input or microphone then it will work just fine under Microphone mode, if you want to use it like a RealTone Cable or whatever it was called, you will have to rename that audio input interface and make sure the bitrate and number of channels matches that cable.

You will have to hope your local friendly pirate will include that with the installation.

I’m glad I could help you find this.

I wonder if this installment will feature GIANT INSECTS

You’re probably correct, they’ve already delisted some DLC songs due to license expiry…

But if they are or will be relicensing many of the songs for their subscription service Rocksmith+, why couldn’t they use those same licenses to keep distributing Rocksmith 2014 and its DLC in stores? Unfortunately I’m not too thorough with music licensing.

At least you get to keep the DLC titles you purchased, which probably wouldn’t happen with a SaaS title

Precisely. This is why I’m giving people a heads up that this is the last opportunity for this game with the “buy it, keep it forever and do whatever with it” model.

Since I’m not aware of CustomDLC for Rocksmith+ or if there will ever be, you’d be entirely at the mercy of what songs Ubisoft has the license for you to play, even if their catalogue is sizable.

If anyone else runs into the Fullscreen Issue like I did initially, you have to go in the .ini file, set your screen width, height values to something less than your monitor specs and Fullscreen to 0.

And the UPlay signin screen is bypassed by pressing escape twice, Ubisoft doesn’t make this obvious AT ALL.

I think you could probably find the game on the high seas even after a delist, probably some of them could have a lot of DLC included but I haven’t checked. Custom DLC might take a little more setup but idk, there are tutorials at least.

Custom DLCs exist that “cover” some of the same songs as the official DLCs do exist, though you won’t find them on CustomsForge. The Internet Archive has a folder with over 60k custom song maps, and hasn’t needlessly bound itself with restrictions.
