really re-enforcing the fact that I will never buy a COD game again. It’s not like they used to be and it looks like it’s intentional at this point.

Pika, do games w Steam adds new "Trending Free" tab to hide demos from new & trending
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I’m not against free games, and if I was interested in a free game I would actively search for one. But usually if you’re searching for trending games it’s because there’s a sale going and you don’t give a shit about the free to play games at that time. Especially considering that the big free games that are “trending” are the same games every single sale.

I like the better separation between the two for sure

Oh my God this is so much nicer. I was getting so sick of trying to navigate the category and having the same live action free to play games appear every time. I have some games that I can remove from my ignore list now

even if it doesn’t, they lose consumer respect as well, I personally won’t engage verge anymore because as someone who wants to go into the development trade, it puts a bad taste of any platform to blatantly disrespect a creators wishes like that.

Killed Linux gaming? I hard disagree with that. Yes developers may not do Native ports as often anymore but I would much rather have the ability to play games that are not considered a native Port because the ocean is so much vaster. If anything proton in the steam deck put Linux on the map, prior to the deck AAA titles you would never see running on Linux you barely saw AA titles on it. However with the introduction of the steam deck in proton we now have companies moving closer to at least making sure their game is compatible with the deck which is one step closer to allowing it to be Linux compatible. It allows you to take your windows games and for the most part just be able to play it without having to have the studio spend as much for it as they would with a native port, because that’s the number one thing that holds them back from making a native Port the lack of market share. I would not have switched off of Windows if this was not the case because that was basically the only thing that was holding me on Windows still was the lack of decent gaming support

Let’s take Elden Ring for example, it plays beautifully I haven’t had a single problem playing it. They weren’t going to release a Linux branch but they made sure it was steamdeck compatible, which meant that it was proton compatible which then allows me to play this amazing game on my Debian 12, a game that otherwise would not have worked because none of the other translation layers function with it. I notice zero difference in performance it plays flawlessly, but I would not have been able to play this game otherwise. It might as well be a native Port because I’ve had zero issues with functionality.

Pika, (edited ) do games w What the Switch 2 has to get right
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

You are missing part of that definition the full definition is as follows

something (such as a headline) designed to make readers want to click on a hyperlink especially when the link leads to content of dubious value or interest

A clickbait does not have to have information that contains dubious value or interest, it just frequently does.

You could make it seem less click baity by removing the question part of the title, have the title be a statement instead of something that forces the reader to have to try to answer the question.

Please note that I’m referring exclusivley to what the title of this post is, the actual video linked seems to have a good title because it’s very clear going into it when it’s going to be about. The linked videos title is kind of clickbait but I think since it ends with rumors and speculations and it’s very clearly showing an opinionated background that is fine.

That being said, I liked the video, thank you for it.

The latest Mario games have seemed to been quite meh for me, like out of watching gameplay of them anyway. Legend of Zelda though I’m not a Zelda fan but dang was tears of the Kingdom fun to watch, almost made me break my boycott on their products, thankfully though they’ve issued like three rounds of dmca since which has firmly solidified my decision.

@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I’ve been the same way with my switch, I haven’t touched it for probably a year and a half outside of a short bit when tears of the Kingdom launched where I replayed some of breath of the wild and a small portion of Animal Crossing, I agree

They had been falling for at least 4 years now, I had already strayed from doing anything on the switch from lack of appeal, but their crackdown on dmca with the yuzu Community was the final straw for me, I didn’t even use the emulator myself but I’ve always heavily embraced emulation and the ability to Tinker with stuff that you purchase and that just didn’t sit right with me.

It was also around that time that I actually read into what happened with Gary Bowser, and that made me sick to my stomach, because it was essentially the equivalent of Prosecuting a cashier for the crimes that the CEO did.

Honestly even if they were still prospering I wouldn’t recommend the products, it’s hard enough to recommend their product to customers in the first place due the platform restrictions and the fact that they just keep regurgitating the three same IP over and over again, and that’s without the active hostilities towards their fanbase

Pika, do games w Sony Confirmed To Be Behind HD2 Delisting Of 180 Countries, Not Valve
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I think the answer is because they don’t believe they need that market, they were obviously okay with losing that market share in the first place due to the fact that they put the requirement in there. As their announcements have said, requiring a PSN account is something that gives them more control over abuse (and ofc data) and allowing more players that are in countries where they are not currently allowed to have those accounts are counterproductive to what they are currently driving for

I’m not surprised they didn’t reverse the region locks they believe it’s something for the best and that’s not something that the consumer is going to be able to change, regardless of the reviews or protest, worst case scenario for them is they just go back to being fully console exclusive if the PR pressure gets too bad

Pika, do games w Sony cancelled the PSN account linking requirement for Helldivers 2
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

This type of review bombing is actually against steams terms of service for reviews in the first place, they’ve stepped in a few times now to hide campaigns like that, I expect they will do the same with this one. Basically it’ll keep the recent review metric but, it will hide the reviews from the historical and the overall metric. So worst case out of this will be it has a negative recent reviews for awhile.

your last sentence is actually the exact reason they implemented that policy and they moreorless quote it in their forum post where they talk about how the new system works
