Ookami38,

I had spitballed an idea similar to this a few months back. Build the characters, world, and situations, and give the AI that information. Pick a few specific pieces of info the AI would have to tell you at specific times, basically to act as guide rails. Then, let the AI and the player just… Interact.

Ookami38,

Eh, we weren’t paying for that back in the day anyway.

Ookami38,

Get back in your hole console peasant and Xbox shill

Ookami38,

There are legitimate reasons for the devs and Sony to want your psn account linked. It’s also reasonable to not want to do so. Why not offer a compromise, like any healthy relationship, and allow, not force, account linking, with a little incentive? Where is the downside to either party?

Ookami38,

I feel like that sentiment only applies visually. The world and story of 1, as well as the gameplay if you accepted it was more of an RPG than an action game, felt much better than 2 did, imo, it just looked like absolute shit.

Ookami38,

There’s such a vanishingly small amount of things that are truly “new” in the 21st century. I’d say just about everything ever made in the last few hundred years hardly counts as “new” - it’s just synthesis of things that came before, probably from nature if you go back far enough.

Novelty truly comes from combining existing things in ways that haven’t been done before. In this regard, palworld has done BRILLIANTLY, taking the best parts of some other games, putting them together far better than those other games, and getting something that’s way more than the sum of parts.

Palworlds real failing at the moment is simply that it’s early access. The game is fantastic until you hit a middle point where content just falls flat. But, again, it’s early access. If there’s ever a thing to be written off during early access, it’s not all the content being done.

Ookami38,

Which is why they’re watching like hawks. To make it not “so far”.

Ookami38,

I think they brought up p5 specifically because it’s a super-modern turn based RPG, so the same kind of thing a new, turn based, ff would be. This modern game, despite being overall well received, got some criticism for its turn based system being too much of the “use obvious elemental weakness” style strategy, and not more novel ideas.

Ookami38,

Similar but I thought it worked around it another way lol. I asked if it was smaller than a refrigerator (y) and larger than a toaster (y). I arrived at it being an appliance in the kitchen, so I thought it just said yes for the first one and it was a refrigerator. I was sad when it wasn’t lol

Ookami38,

“it” is probably stupider, honestly.

Ookami38,

To be entirely fair, if it’s not the mods content itself, but the description, that got it removed, that should probably be clarified front and center. That’s a pretty big shift from the mod being removed based on it’s simple existence.

Ookami38,

I can agree that you absolutely can navigate without fast travel, but the whole design seems to be guiding you towards just fast traveling. From the menus always offering a “show on map” option, which then pulls up the prominent “land” prompt, to the fact that even fast traveling you’re apt to hit 4 loading screens completely killing any sense of continuity, and that only gets worse if you try to actually navigate.

It feels like a big series of set pieces broken up by a ton of liminal either loading screens or menus, depending on your preference of poison. I’ve never felt like I was discovering cool things, just going to the next set piece.

Ookami38,

Man, that’s why armored core blew me away. Completed the whole game, at launch, maximum settings and I don’t recall a single frame drop. 3060, with very mediocre other hardware. I know there’s a lot to be said about map sizes and instanced missions, but with as fantastic as that game looks and plays…

Ookami38,

It’s almost like having a giant open world comes with some massive drawbacks. I’m pretty fatigued over open world games tho so that may just be me.

Ookami38,

Then don’t clutter my world with infinite foam cups literally everywhere highlighted with the scanner drawing my attention and distracting me so I’ll inevitably pick it up,just for it to be something that’s just going to get dumped into a container or an npc?

If you want every piece of clutter in your game to be lootable, every piece of clutter in your game will be looted, if only to get it out of the way.

Ookami38,

My issue is, encumbrance is fine if it’s engaging. Limit me to a few weapons and pieces of armor. But if ALL of the junk is going to be lootable, then make it 1. Worthwhile and 2. Not a hassle. If you give me a shiny, so help me imma loot it, and if it’s actual trash, that’s just a big waste of time and disappointing

Ookami38,

Holy shit I’m out of the loop. With as much respect as is possible has Jim sterling always been a woman? Like seriously I’ve seen the name a TON, but never actually watched a video lol

Now, on-topic, yeah, I agree with 100% of what she said, and said word for word some of the stuff she did just earlier today lol.

Ookami38,

Yeah I caught the introduction of “James Stephanie Sterling” and was like… -record skip- wait what? Not that it matters, just was a surprise, and I couldn’t find anything specific googling lol

Ookami38,

Honestly I have had no grinding. I’m through new game, and a bit into ng+. I haven’t had any money issues, and parts resell for full value. Unless you count dying on a fight a dozen or so times grinding.

Ookami38,

You don’t need to buy everything unless you’re a completionist. Things can be resold for 100% value so there’s no need to own everything at once. And replying a mission because you missed something is hardly a grind.
