I would argue that Fallout 3 is a good game, but it is not a good Fallout game. It is fun to play, and has all the other hallmarks of a good Bethesda game, but the vibe is wrong. It feels like something ripping off Fallout (because, it kinda is?) and misses the beats of the originals. It’s more than likely just cultural differences between the developers. Black Isle was Californian, Bethesda is somewhere on the East coast. And 4 managed to bring that OG vibe to the series, even if it absolutely fucking sucks as an RPG (great FPS tho).
That said, the Oblivion remake showed me that just updating the graphics but keeping the original jank was not a good thing. Fallout 3 now would not hold up the same way it did back in 2008.
I wouldn’t really say it’s the devs for most of the stuff I see that has me questioning if whoever was in charge ever played a video game before. Stupidly simply QOL things that end up being absent in a game that is ripping off another game, likely only absent because the dev team didn’t have time to work on those elements.
However, games that constantly take control away from the player like every 2-5 minutes, I have to question the designer themselves. I wanted to play a game and these kinds of games end up getting watched like a movie with how often you don’t have any control over what’s happening. And I don’t mean games like Detroit Become Human or even The Quarry (which is 100℅ an interactive movie), I mean shit like Dragon’s Dogma 2 or a lot of the newest Nintendo first party titles. It takes away controk of your character for some of the stupidest shit; like high fiving your team mates without any input from the player.
I only know the OG cartoon and movies, myself. Shredder wasn’t even the true villain in the OG cartoon after a certain point; he became Krang’s bumbling henchman in like the second or 3rd season. Krang, being the literal brains of the operstion had plans and Shredder, well… Shredded them.
Ubisoft is the Shredder of game companies. Evil, but ultimately their plans would fall apart even without the Turtles intervening because they are just awful.
They only trust themselves and it’s kinda hard to install cyberware on yourself unless you already have something like Doc Oc’s tentacle arms installed.
From Crosspoint I heard that they even cancelled and shut down the studio making a game (forget the name off the top of my head) that Phil Spencer himself was said to have liked so much, they had to force him to quit playing their demo in a meeting about it. Not to mention the absolute waste of time and money on nearly finished projects that were probably going to sell well.
Can I be a big time Twitch celebrity too if I doodle a series of completely nondescriptive boxes and link them with little lines in MS Paint as I talk?
PC is harder to define since everyone has varying hardware and specific setting preferences. Most PC games let you change nearly everything and let you mix and match what is high, what is low, what is on or off, etc. And if you have the money, you can get both performance and quality if the game isn’t busted. :p
