Not at that price point, of course. Ultrakill has a sub 2 million USD budget, its one of the most critically praised games on Steam, and its not even finished yet. I can’t look up Steamcharts at work but I have good reason to believe its more than made back its production budget.

Live service games are starting to turn into a very expensive scam and if you can’t make a good single player game, you need to cut costs somewhere. AAA production budgets are just too huge and the product isn’t good.

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

Its $70 because they’re making back that expensive nightmare its been whether you want it or not.

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

THE ONLY THING YOU HAVE TO LOSE IS YOUR CHAINS

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

Of all the games you want, Starfield is not one of them.

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

Only one real reason why they’re doing this: Starfield fell short of sales goals

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

Agreed and the space is now too expensive for an upstart like Lenovo

The fact that the one thing about Stadia constantly pratted by the press and public was “When will Google kill it?” impacted its growth profoundly. Google’s culture killed the Stadia, not the lack of investment. And as a company, they are in bad shape product and leadership wise.

KingThrillgore,

The next project is a remake of the remake of TLOU, clearly.

After Capcom’s DRM fiasco, they’ve poisoned the well something fierce. Giving us more of the genre they established smacks of Resident Evil many years ago when 6 was out and was followed with forgettable spinoffs. That will poison the rest of the reservoir. They never learn.

Even if one of them was a Code Veronica remake like we want, I am holding my breath. I bet one of them is a Live Service game, because they haven’t learned with their OTHER attempts at that.

Here’s a video of Doom running on gut bacteria, proving you really can play the game on anything (www.engadget.com)

An MIT biotech researcher has been able to run the iconic computer game Doom using actual gut bacteria. Lauren Ramlan didn’t get the game going on a digital simulation of bacteria, but turned actual bacteria into pixels to display the 30-year-old FPS, as reported by Rock Paper Shotgun....

So its due to sync rights. Oof. I wonder if some of the song licenses (looking at you, Experience Hendrix) are the culprit.

The Line really is an example of a painfully average game held up by its narrative, and hot damn, how well it held up. I adore some of the moments of this game, especially for their vicissitude.

KingThrillgore, (edited )
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

Perpetual sync rights licenses aren’t unheard of, but typically these require an ongoing revenue split of sales or a big up front. More often than not, limited rights are used to save scratch and because its going to be for a set period, like 30 days (for an ad campaign).

In fact, I wouldn’t be shocked if Take Two opted for perpetual, and decided they won’t afford a per unit sale anymore, and pulled the game to stop paying.

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

Unfortunately, there’s some thematically appropriate uses in the game and this is sometimes applicable in other media.

Pyrocynical used Midge Ure’s cover of “The Man Who Sold the World” in a video covering Half-Life 2 or a mod of it, and that meant Midge needed a cut, the original writer David Bowie, his estate needed a cut, Kobalt Songs, who owns the rights for Midge’s cover needed a cut, Warner Chappal, who owns the Bowie library needed a cut, ASCAP needed a cut, PRS needed a cut…

You only get a small fraction of who owns what off SongView. It’s a removed. Pyro paid $24,000 for the sync rights. That’s the budget for like five of his videos right there.

I wish this process was easier. Contacting a label’s sync office is typically the start of the nightmare.

We’re now at the “I dunno how much more worse we can make it but let’s keep adding more shit and find out” phase of the failure of the Suicide Squad game.

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

No they weren’t. Unless you mean COD4 and the OG MW2 and 3. Sure.

The franchise has been held up by marketing cash and DOD money for a while now, and it sucks ass.

I was hoping this would see the light of day but alas. Embracer is doomed.

What are some hidden indie gems nobody knows about? angielski

Which indies did you discover and would love more people to know about? I’ll start: The Pale Beyond. Not sure if it’s a hidden gem tbh, but it’s such a good story rich game. I laughed, I cried and felt the characters struggles. If you like story rich games/ choices matter, check it out.

Signalis

Antichamber

Cave Story

The Beginner’s Guide

Uplink

Hypnospace Outlaw

Exit Fate

The Red Strings Club

Oolite

LocoRoco (not an indie gem but forgotten)

Where's Our Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Review? (IGN denied review code) (www.ign.com) angielski

In a bad-vibes moment, they’re denying a huge outlet like IGN a review code. No matter what I think of IGN in particular (nothing good tbh), that’s not something I can find a real explanation for other than “We made DC’s Gollum and want to avoid bad press as long as we can”.

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

Palworld is a flash in the pan and I predict its count will drop in a couple of weeks. If Suicide Squad fails, its because its a bad game.

I doubt it after the WOTC layoffs. To celebrate, i’m going to study up on Pathfinder 2E.

If Valve didn’t have this dosh stream, they would make more single player games. Simple as.

At this point, I’m mad they’re about to launch the DLC for every damn feature. Everyone should avoid being toxic, but Paradox/Colossal Order aren’t blameless here. They shipped the game half-finished, and are gonna screw you out of your money. Just go back to the first Skylines.

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

I gotta be honest I am waiting for the inevitable PS5 Pro because nothing is out this gen that interests me and the AAAs are mostly duds at this point, something we saw a lot of last gen. Industry is due a large adjustment.

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

You know what that means: Gifting a sub with Prime is about to go away and so are all the loot drops with Prime. Also, more no opt out ads, longer preroll ads, and a larger list of partnered games getting headway.

So you know typical enshittification stuff.

Video encoding is an expensive operation and probably the second largest cost next to wages. And apparently they aren’t even on an AWS SLA.

AN AMAZON SUBSIDIARY NOT ON AN SLA

Are they really a revenue sink to cover up taxable income?

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

Probably some outstanding service level agreement they walked into.

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

If I had to guess a real reason why: a new TF game in Source 2, or something similar is in the works at Valve. It may never make it out of pre-production, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

It would surprise me if they did it to capitalize on Overwatch, which would show that Valve leadership can’t make an original idea, and is chasing an also-ran that’s not successful.

Video game actors speak out after union announces AI voice deal (www.videogameschronicle.com) angielski

According to SAG AFTRA, the deal will “enable Replica to engage SAG-AFTRA members under a fair, ethical agreement to safely create and license a digital replica of their voice. Licensed voices can be used in video game development and other interactive media projects from pre-production to final release.”...

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

I feel like this is really a consequence of what many called the “bad deal” the SAG/AFTRA merger was years ago. When the union can effectively exclude you from the bargaining process and arbitrate you to it, what’s the point? They’re behaving like a cartel, and not like a union. This is not praxis, brothers and sisters!

Its called “Putting up with your racist southener side of the family” and its easily the worst game of the year.

I kid. Its Board Games time when i’m with family and last year I got them hooked on Fluxx.

I’m aroused impressed by strong women, physically and emotionally. And in a world that can do better by them, this is balancing the scales.

I also want to say that as we saw with Legend of Korra, if they’re interesting characters and are ‘cool’ nobody will care about gender.

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

I’ve never seen a hill as ridiculous for anyone to die on besides “they.”
