Doing nefarious things on the Internet is probably not much younger than the Internet. That take sounds like something someone who wasn't around in the 90s would say. I still remember the Ping of Death, people abusing netsplits on IRC, scams, identity theft, fraud, etc. - this is not exactly a new thing and even predates the web, but it has continued to evolve throughout the years.

4chan was definitely around in 2008 but it was a lot more crazy random eclectic message board and a lot less nazi pedo bar. There were still shitty people there but it wasn't the norm.

Riding netsplits, slapping people with trouts, those were the days...

Borderlands 4 and the Switch 2: Two things I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire.

Haven't played yet, I bought copies for me and a family member to play online after they told me about it.

Update: Online co-op. it does not appear to have local multiplayer.

Still delusional pricing that guarantees I will avoid your game for years if not forever even if it is great.

For people who want to play their favorite games but are unable to, what are you currently doing?

I sold my PC yesterday because of financial struggles and as far as I’m aware, I would probably be unable to buy a PC or console ever again. That said, I still want to somehow experience the games I would otherwise want to play on PC. I’m thinking of watching let’s plays but of course, that’s not the same as actually...

Other hobbies lke hiking, biking, etc. but if your only concern is cost, why not get an old computer for super cheap, put Linux on it, and play games thay don't need high end specs?

The worst thing about it is that there isn't more.

Shame, guess I'll never buy anything from them ever again. Bricking the device I own is fucked, it's none of your business what I do or don't do with it.

The Steam Deck is superior in every regard anyways.

FartsWithAnAccent,
@FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io avatar

If you mean Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo, IMO, Nintendo is the worst of them when it comes to stuff like this. You don't see Microsoft crushing little enthusiast developers and modders (in fact, the Skyblivion team was sent free copies of the Oblivion remaster and has received lots of support and encouragement, as have many other modders).

If someone did that with Pokemon or Zelda at it got as much coverage as Skyblivion, Nintendo would squash them under a bunch of lawyers. That said, IMO, all consoles kind of suck, and PC is a lot fairer to consumers. Steam Deck is like, "You want to run an emulator? A whole new OS? Anything you say King. I love you."

@FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io avatar

They don't cost $80 if I don't buy them. There are plenty of great games coming out regularly that cost way less (and there's a good chance they're also better games).

FartsWithAnAccent,
@FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io avatar

I've been playing the shit out of Children of Morta. I think it was $20, max. There are more indie games that are more fun to play and cost a fraction of the price than there are AAA games that are actually really good and not just generic slop that exists solely to try and make more money.

Awesome, Mint has been my daily driver lately. Kinda feels like the Toyota Camry of OSes lol.

FartsWithAnAccent,
@FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io avatar

lol, maybe kinda both?

FartsWithAnAccent,
@FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io avatar

The Steam Deck is waaaay more tinker friendly though.

Then again, I suppose plenty of people do it for the challenge.

Nope: Gary Oldman, master of disguise, strikes again!

Switch game recommendations

Looking for game recommendations for my 4 year old who just got a Switch for Christmas. He’s having a good time with Donut County, and likes running around the town in Stardew Valley, but looking for something else. Doesn’t have to be super kids-y, but easy, chill, no lose condition or time limits. Thoughts?

Yoshi's Crafted World is pretty ideal for a young kid, there's a special mode for young kids too where you basically can't fail.

FartsWithAnAccent,

Depends on what games you're playing and where/who you're discussing gaming with.

FartsWithAnAccent,
@FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io avatar

I could never get into watching other people play video games just like I could never get into watching other people play sports: They both usually bore me pretty quickly even with ones I have fun playing.

FartsWithAnAccent,
@FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io avatar

Use a Steamdeck or an old system, plenty of great games don't need a high end cutting edge rig (most don't really)

did you hear that Dr Disrespect tried to make a comeback the other day with a Deadlock stream? (beehaw.org)

[alt text: several screenshots of posts on twitter. The bottom post is a tweet from @DrDisrespect on twitter, which says, “LIVE in 30 minutes. I just installed Deadlock… what the hell is this game? We're talking about Activision here so, 100% yes. Absolutely.

Regardless of how you feel about the games, the Activision bar is set very low.

It's so low I could ollie over it!

Adding the 2 was the worst choice they ever made IMO
