Oh shit it is, and is owned by a Microsoft subsidiary that owns all sorts of games on GOG. Elder scrolls, Fallout, Doom, Quake, Dishonored, and more. GOG would be screwed if they pissed them off enough to get all those series taken off!

Ah that’s cool, 15 year copyright sounds good to me.

So you post a selfie on Lemmy and the next thing you know, you’re the key subject in a new Facebook ad?

I think we need some level of IP laws, but current copyright periods are way too long.

Is it possible they got an ultimatum by an important company they work with?

E.g. imagine the damage Bethesda could do to GOG by refusing to allow their games on GOG any more.

My friend quit his job and has been making indie games since 2015. It’s been 20 years

If it has been 20 years since 2015 then I think I overslept.

I seem to recall enjoying Riven, but I suspect I never actually finished it and just gave up at some point.

Riven came out nearly 30 years ago so I think I can be forgiven for not remembering too well 👴

I had a friend who had a whole scrap book of notes for Myst. I wasn’t dedicated enough 😅

Dave, do gaming w Valve gets pressured by payment processors with a new rule for game devs and various adult games removed
@Dave@lemmy.nz avatar

I spent ages buying games on steam with Bitcoin years ago. They dropped it when transaction fees got bigger than the game cost (I don’t think they ever supported crypto other than Bitcoin, and that was through a specific payment processor that took the Bitcoin and gave Valve real money).

I played BG3, put over 100 hours, it took me 2 years. But I don’t mind, it was an easy game to pick up after a break and continue with, and the quests were rewarding in themselves, you didn’t need to complete the whole game to understand it.

There are definitely games I have started played, then couldn’t remember what I was doing after a break and wasn’t enthused enough to return to it. I can’t remember specific games but I know it happens.

I play them because I enjoy them. You can normally pick out the main storyline and just follow that.

Personally I just play a long game over the course of a couple of years.

Dave, do games w 6* months away now. If you're on 10, do you plan to upgrade? Make the jump to Linux?
@Dave@lemmy.nz avatar

Lucky for me I don’t have any Nvidia so things sail a bit smoother.

Thanks for all the advice 🙂

Awesome, thanks for the explanation! I’d been put off Bazzite and other immutable distros because I had seen threads saying you basically needed flatpak for everything, but it sounds like that’s not true.

I don’t need a project at the moment but I will give this a go once I am ready for one!

How does Bazzite fare when I want to do something a bit different. Install docker, Python, PHP, sqlite, etc. I’d normally just install them, but does this work for Bazzite and other atomic/immutable distros?

Yeah I can imagine trying to do it manually could get pretty tricky. I’ll look forward to the smart watch support (though I don’t own one, I might get one if others report it working well with GrapheneOS).

Edit: also one thing to try out if possible is to remove battery optimization from Google Play Services. Your device might be killing that, which stops counting the steps.

It seems it’s already set to not be optimized. It doesn’t seem to have access to the physical activity permission, but granting that permission didn’t seem to help. It still doesn’t count steps with the screen off.

No matter, thanks for all the ideas, I’ll just keep watching and see if others find a solution. I’ve subscribed to the Walkscape community so hopefully you’ll be posting updates there 🙂

It doesn’t seem to be helping. If I ever work out a more reliable way to get steps counted I’ll let you know. I know some pedometer apps don’t need Google Play Services and use a persistant notification to keep it active, but it seems like quite a significant change from what you currently have which wouldn’t be worth spending time on to appease such a small group of users.
