It was a little later than 'childhood' because I didn't really get into gaming until I was in college, but I would have to say Outlast was my foundation when it came to horror games. I had so much fun playing it over and over, and I still revisit to this day, even through I know it like the back of my hand.
Oddly enough, because I hold Outlast in such high regard, it's kinda of difficult for me to play walking sim-esque horror games that I truly enjoy because I have yet to find one that give me the same sense of satisfaction while playing it (the only exception being the first two Amnesia games).
I'm replaying The Sinking City which has a lot of problems but I'm in love with the main protagonist (obviously). Since I've already played it twice and I know what I'm getting into, I'm trying to figure out a nice balance with the main story line vs the side quests while also exploring other dialogue options (even though there aren't a ton).
Still working on season shit for Diablo 4. Some latency stuff on my side has made things difficult, and I'm a bit behind on my timeline that I made for myself. Still working on it though!
Still on the fence about getting into Gungrave G.O.R.E.. Definitely need to jump on it before it's taken off of Game Pass.
I still can't get over Wesker's new voice. This man now sounds like an actual human being, what even is this lol.
Still looking forward to this though. I really enjoyed the original's Separate Ways.
That would involved buying/downloading the game first to find out though (which would defeat the purpose of avoiding Unity in the first place). Out of curiosity I checked some of the games on my Steam wishlist to see if Steam had the engine listed anywhere, and unfortunately they don't. A few had it under the fine print copyright section under System Requirements, but not all. Because of this whole thing, it would be nice if Steam would include that as well, like in the sidebar where they list the developer and publisher. I can't speak for other pc storefronts though.
Still working on seasonal stuff for Diablo 4. I got all my world bosses done, now I'm just trying to level up for the rest of it. I got a weekly game plan for myself, so I think I might finish it before the season end on Oct 17.
In the meantime I've been replaying (again) 2015's Mad Max. I've had a lot of irl stuff going on that sucks and it's been very cathartic to play. Just drive around and punch mutherfuckers? Hell yeah.
Been thinking about picking up Gungrave G.O.R.E since it's on Xbox Game Pass. There's an anime that goes with it I guess? Nobody I've talked to know a lot about it, so I think that might be my next game to play just for the hell of it.
I've only played through it twice, but iirc Detroit: Become Human is like this. Even if you have a main, playable character die, the story just keeps going, and there a good amount of paths to take depending on the choices (and QTEs, bleh) that you make for the characters. On my second playthrough, I may or may not have repeatedly and purposely got a character killed just to see how much it would affect an certain NPC. 😬
It's a few years old, but I've been working on getting 100% achievements in Conarium over the weekend. I'm always a sucker for a Lovecraftian game, and it's one of the more visually interesting walking sims that I've played. I only have two achievements left, so I'm hoping I can clear them either today or tomorrow. I need more disk space for other games lmao
I was super addicted to Darkest Dungeon whenever I first got it. I never ended up finishing it, but I loved the art style and the community mods that are out there.
I don't see it on the list or commented yet, and it is a bit sparse at the moment, but Dead Space is out there:
Dead Space - https://kbin.social/m/DeadSpace
I'm also going to suggest https://kbin.social/m/MadMax even though that magazine is for the Mad Max franchise in general, I've been posting stuff from the 2015 video game as well.
The developers who were famous for their walking simulators
I was just thinking, aren't these the guys who made Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs? So I had to go look up what else they've done that maybe I've played, and uh... Dear Esther. Which imo is the epitome a walking sim, even more so than A Machine, because at least that had some light puzzle solving and avoiding enemies. Dear Esther is just literally walking around and listening to dialogue. That's it.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good walking sim whenever I'm in the right mood, but based on the new trailer we just got, Bloodlines 2 is not that lol. Hell, the first one isn't even that.
Maybe they want to start branching out? If that's the case, I'm not sure that doing it with a game that a lot of people have been waiting for and that has already had... productions issues is not the best approach. Maybe I'll be proved wrong. I kinda hope so, considering how much I love the first Bloodlines.
