Metal_Zealot, w Critically Acclaimed PlayStation Exclusive Struggling on PC
@Metal_Zealot@lemmy.ml avatar

Maybe port the rest of the series to PC too, let people play everything back from the PS2/PS3/PSP/PS4.

Besides the original PS2 trio bundle for PS3 (and Size Matters from PSP to PS2), all the games are stuck on their original platforms.

Zana, w Telltale is back! The Expanse: A Telltale Series launches today

EGS exclusive, now I know why I haven’t seen anything about it. EGS is a black hole for marketing.

SuperDuperKitten, w Nintendo's claim that emulation 'stifles innovation' isn't just absurd—it's hypocritical

Didn’t for Super Mario 3D All-Star, they just downloaded a rom of Super Mario 64 on a ROM website?

supersquirrel, w An Art Book Proves AI Will Never Create Art

Indeed, this art book is unintentionally the greatest argument against using genAI in the creation of art. It’s packed with great anecdotes about how characters were designed, references to other media that inspired the team, and some things the team wishes they could have done differently, and what got cut. It talks about how various artists from the UK collaborated with artists from Japan, having auditions in Japan which led to the legend himself, Takaya Kuroda, just showing up for an audition one day and obviously getting the part. Manga artists were also hired on the game and influenced not only how several characters looked, but also how they acted, and even contributed plot points.

That’s what the Vinckes of the world will never understand about art. It’s not a thing produced on a factory line, made to order. It’s a collaborative process between several individuals, each drawing on their own experiences in life, their own cultures, to create a shared vision. This happens from the very beginning of a project all the way to the end. That concept phase that Vincke and his ilk are so desperate to speedrun is a critically important part of the artistic process. That’s where the project finds its voice, where artists and creators come together to share ideas and decide what story they want to tell.

Very well said!

eRac,

Except that it is based on bullshit. Vincke was saying that designers (non-artists) are able to use gen-AI to iterate their descriptions of what they are looking for instead of going back and forth with concept artists before they even know what they want. The gen-AI content never leaves the moodboard stage.

supersquirrel,

Vincke was saying that designers (non-artists) are able to use gen-AI to iterate their descriptions of what they are looking for instead of going back and forth with concept artists before they even know what they want.

This is part of the collaborative creative process, removing the human element from it only devalues the end product.

Moonrise2473, w Has anyone tried the stadia controller via Bluetooth on PC?

Update: I bought it and it works fine. On windows, there’s no vibration, that only works on Linux.

Some games like fall guys are “too smart” and show prompts for a generic joypad instead of Xbox and so it says “press button 14” but who knows which button is internally referred as 14…

MellowYellow13, w Has anyone tried the stadia controller via Bluetooth on PC?

I use a Hori Switch pad ($20) and its amazing, works on everything steam and anything off steam. Works flawlessly on PC

gnygnygny, w Budget gaming: steam deck or build a cheap gaming PC?

ROG Ally is a better choice than a steam deck.

Cowbee,
@Cowbee@lemmy.ml avatar

In what manner?

gnygnygny,

Lighter weight, better autonomy, better ergonomy, better form factory, cheaper, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and the heat control is better. Win11 is a plus for desktop usage and Xbox market.

Cowbee,
@Cowbee@lemmy.ml avatar

What do you mean by “better autonomy?” And how is Windows 11 a plus for what is going to be a gaming handheld? Linux in general is more convenient than Win11, plus you don’t have Microsoft spying on you the entire time.

The Steam Deck OLED has better battery life from what I’ve seen, a better screen, works out of the box, and has better controls due to trackpads for more games.

gnygnygny,

OLED screens consume more power than an IPS screen, unless you display only black pixels on the screen. Explain to me by what miracle the autonomy would be greater?

I find the desktop useful, more software means more possibilities and more drivers for external devices. In any case, it covers my needs better.

Privacy is not a strong argument. And I am very concerned about this issue. You can disable the telemetry with a little bit of tuning in Windows and you can block the traffic with an FW. Privacy is systemic and not just Windows. Look at your phone, bank, connected objects, TV, insurance companies, … Do you think steam is not spying you ? Have you read their subscriber agreement ?

Cowbee,
@Cowbee@lemmy.ml avatar

OLED can consume more battery, but the screen is a small factor in overall consumption in a gaming handheld.

Secondly, Linux has better privacy, more useful software features for gaming (like gaming mode on SteamOS), and more.

gnygnygny,

Repeating something wrong doesn’t make a valid argument.

Linux privacy is better yes, until you use Steam on it to rent your games.

Cowbee,
@Cowbee@lemmy.ml avatar

And your solution is to use Windows with Steam? Repeating something wrong doesn’t make a valid argument.

gnygnygny,

I avoid to use steam as much as I can. I prefer GOG or to buy my games instead to rent it. But as steam got 80% of the market share sometimes there is no choice. People should understand that a monopole is not good.

Cowbee,
@Cowbee@lemmy.ml avatar

You can run GOG games on the Steam Deck. Again, why use Windows when Microsoft is worse?

gnygnygny,

I know you can run gog on it.

I am not either a pro Microsoft. I just prefer the ROG for the reason I previously gave.

Now if you prefer to go full steam it is your choice.

MellowYellow13,

it runs windows lmao

Boinkage, w Budget gaming: steam deck or build a cheap gaming PC?

Another vote for a PC. I own both, but the deck is a fun extra thing, not my main gaming system. A built PC can be upgraded as the years go by very economically, whereas someday the steam deck will just be outdated. If you’re tired of the console ecosystem then switching to the deck is just a console made by a better company, but it’s still a bunch of hardware hardwired together. A gaming PC can be upgraded whenever your need and budget want.

wccrawford, w Has anyone tried the stadia controller via Bluetooth on PC?

I tried it, found it had horrible latency, and threw it in a box.

I’ve been using the (wired) Gamesir T4 Kaleid on my desktop and loving it.

I’ve been using an XBox Elite (the one that worked, not the one I sent back because the trigger was broken) and it’s been okay, but the dead zones are much, much larger than the Kaleid. I looked at Gamesir’s wireless options, but wasn’t impressed with the reviews, so I haven’t tried any yet.

emeralddawn45, w What to do now that ds4windows is dead again?

Just keep using the old version? I haven’t updated it jn ages and it works fine.

Vinny_93, w What to do now that ds4windows is dead again?

Check out reWASD, by Daemon Tools. I paid 7 dollars for it once and it’s great.

SimplyASpeckOfDust,

reWASD is brilliant, great suggestion!

wccrawford,

Daemon Tools

Holy crap! They still exist? I haven’t heard that name in forever, but I loved their stuff back when I needed it. Wow.

NOOBMASTER, w What to do now that ds4windows is dead again?

ds4drv was working last time I checked

Moonrise2473,

It’s for Linux, not windows

Bluetooth controller support on Linux is much better

Moonrise2473, w Has anyone tried the stadia controller via Bluetooth on PC?

It looks like it needs workarounds too github.com/walkco/stadia-vigem 😭

And vigem has been discontinued due to a trademark issue 😢

Vinny_93,

Vigem is included in DS4Windows or the Ryujin fork

Moonrise2473,

I tried to install that ryujin fork but some games (for example “turnip boy commits tax evasion”) don’t recognize it even when emulating xinput (it worked when launched via steam)

Btw it improved a lot since last time I tried ds4windows, maybe a couple reboots would fix the issue (of course no battery and can’t find the micro USB charger)

jaykay, w Why Steam is so slow to start?
@jaykay@lemmy.zip avatar

I think it’s just Steam being Steam. I have the same thing (Arch NVMe)

Ardon, w Critically Acclaimed PlayStation Exclusive Struggling on PC

I suspect it will see some more sales when it goes on a discount. It takes a hype cycle to get people to pay $80 (cad, in my case) and a timed exclusive of a known quantity story driven game does not have a hype cycle.

People want to buy the brand new exciting new chapter, they’re less keen on catching up to a now old story
