the question was “popularized” not “invented”.

funny how no one even mentioned World of Warcraft for MMOs because it’s too obvious.

I thought goldeneye had that basic controls concept a few years before. and Turok was pretty close before that.

edit: ah forgot n64 only had one joystick. but basically the same with the left d-pad and middle joystick.

combat is changing to real time, so it’s going to be more like god of war.

well the difference with steam is they don’t have upvotes and downvotes, they have “helpful” and “funny”. sure some people don’t use them properly, but it’s something. Maybe it would help Lemmy and reddit to bring in a funny vote too if you’re just looking for some laughs.

they should just have a sorting option as on Lemmy/reddit. let people choose to sort by helpful, humorous, controversial, etc. at set a default of their own preference.

@acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

yeah I don’t really see either of those options as problematic. quite common to explain away powers in RPG sequels, and CDPR might very well want to go in a different gampleay direction than Witcher combat.

they can easily tweak the mechanics to suit a whole game. And it’s a Witcher RPG, the combat will be heavily customizable anyway.

I thought they were pretty clearly setting up Ciri to take the mantle in W3.

but by nature MMOs are extremely static in terms of the world, NPCs etc because they have to be there for every PC at every stage of their story. To me that always makes them feel less alive despite a bunch of PCs scurrying around.

wouldn’t a non-MMO be better to experience story and characters?

acosmichippo, do games w Elden Ring Player to Sue FromSoftware Over High Game Difficulty
@acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

well the reality is we do not have longer refund periods. so in the current state of affairs, yes, it is an argument for people to give up. Trying for 2 hours is at least one step better than not buying the game at all.

acosmichippo, do games w Elden Ring Player to Sue FromSoftware Over High Game Difficulty
@acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

So your argument against playing for longer than an hour and getting good is playing less than two hours and refunding? You need to play the game for a few hours to understand the combat systems and the way that enemies react.

and your argument to enjoy a game is to force yourself to play it longer than the return period is, therefore eliminating any chance of a refund?

if you’re trying to convince people to buy an xbox instead of a playstation, yeah. And keep current xboxers within the ecosystem. post-purchase affirmation is a big component of advertising too.
