The original Subnautica is worth playing, it’s a fantastic game with an interesting world, intriguing story, and actually fun gameplay and vehicles. The vehicles themselves are extremely fun, too.
It still has some rough edges, even after the major updates. I liked the Panam ending a lot, arguably one of my favorite game endings ever, but the police spawn and logic is still terrible compared to the likes of older GTA games, and the cars still feel gross to drive. Just Cause 2 had better vehicle handling, and that’s a title from 2010.
It’s a great game, but I dunno how well it will work on phones. The UI is gonna have to be really reworked. I found it a bit clunky even on desktop. The story is fantastic, though. :)
DOOM 16 was fantastic, but eternal felt gross. It was a huge step back from 2016, and didn’t feel fun. I’m not bothering with the newer games since they essentially are going off gimmicks.
What happened to him in the end? I remember her sacrificing herself to the winter, but all I remember is Geralt living and then the post game DLC. Maybe I got the really weird ending, haha
Last few years I’ve been excitedly waiting for sequels from several small-to-medium sized studios that made highly acclaimed original games—I’m talking about Cities: Skylines, Kerbal Space Program, Planet Coaster, Frostpunk, etc.—yet each sequel was very poorly received to the point I wasn’t willing to risk my money...
Nothing went wrong. Remember the era where every sequel was straight to DVD? Who remembers The Lion King 2? How about Brother Bear 2? Sonic Adventure 2?
It’s difficult to iterate on a piece of media that was written to be a standalone entity.
The only exceptions really are when stories are split into multiple games (such as halo 1-3)
I’ve just broken my left collarbone and for the next couple weeks have left arm in a sling. Thinking about games that are played just with the right hand?...
Edit: inscryption is WASD +spacebar only, if you can do that with a slight seating adjustment. It’s great for planes. The post game content might be even better than the game content, haha.
One of the biggest issues that’s plagued the Nintendo Switch since its launch in 2017 is stick drift. In fact, Nintendo faced several lawsuits as a result of the issue, with an ex-repair supervisor previously stating that the workload to fix drifting Joy-Con was “very stressful”....
All my joycons have drift, and I have several sets. I’m not touching a switch 2 because of that, and the insane cost of games. Nintendo needs to make better hardware.
Long time no see! I really need to stop promising to write about specific games. I get too in my head about it, then I feel obligated to write instead of wanting to write. This is supposed to be a fun personal writing project, not work!...
Judging by all the shark card crap they jammed into the last GTA, I fully expect them to shovel a bunch of crap in to make more money: $70 base games, deluxe editions, DLC, micro transactions, social club integration, required internet connections, all of it.
It’s been a while since I looked at a main series Pokémon game and thought, “That looks nice.” This includes last week’s full reveal of Pokémon Legends Z-A, which going from the first bit of footage seems to feature a lot of hazy-edged grey rooftops, futurist UI, and eerily smooth NPCs, and not a lot of consistent,...
I agree, the last genuinely pretty game was Emerald, imo. Diamond and beyond is where 3D assets started weakening the art direction, imo. Either keep the beautiful pixel art, or do proper cel shaded graphics, like windwaker. Personally, I’d stick with pixel art for the strongest possible art direction.
I’ll start by saying I had a bit of trouble wording the title but I’ll try to elaborate on it. I find it can be a bit daunting at times figuring out what a decent entry point is in a series of video games without searching online first. Sometimes there will be ten games released across three different generation of consoles...
Black Mesa, if you are playing through the half life franchise. Also, probably one of the best remakes ever. I can’t think of a remake better than the original, and I played HL and Black Mesa back to back to be sure.
I hate that Halo:MCC requires my like, 28 digit Microsoft password AND 2FA to play a game from 2007. It should allow you to bypass login and just play as your steam account.
Every time I want to play it, it asks for that, and I just quit and play something that is far less of a hassle, particularly offline.
This game always fascinated me as a companion piece to Half-Life. It cemented some things in the HL lore that have just become accepted, while at the same time existing in Schrodinger’s canon....
Nothing more disappointing to me than seeing a game I might enjoy… and then it’s only available on PC on Epic Games store. Why can’t it be available on Epic, Xbox game store and Steam? It’s so annoying, like you have no choice but to use Epic… which I would literally do ANYTHING not to use.
Not even just ignorable. I literally don’t even hear about them until they release on steam and people talk smack in steam reviews. It might as well not exist unless it’s on Steam or GOG.
Apparently Alan Wake 2 came out on PC awhile ago, and I literally had no idea until someone bitched about it on Lemmy, lol.
One thing I have struggled with lately is finding good games to play. I bounce around from game to game trying to enjoy it but it just doesn’t scratch the itch like it used to. For example, one of my favorites was old school RuneScape, but it hasn’t really been giving me the same enjoyment that it used to. So then I would...
Elite Dangerous. Well over 1,000 hours, especially with friends to explore the black with. Hard to get into, but it has so much stuff to do. It made me passionate about space! (And it’s always fun reading articles about a far-flung star and thinking “hey! I’ve been there!”)
According to MetaCritic, Zelda: Breath of the Wild topped "best games of the 2010s" lists, appearing in 1st place in 17 of these lists. In 2030, what game of the 2020s decade will appear on the 1st place in most of these lists? (It should be noted that we are in the middle of the 2020s decade so this may change as new games get...
Botw was good, but I wouldn’t put it anywhere near game of the decade. Divinity 2, Subnautica, Skyrim and its DLC, Hollow Knight, Death Stranding, Doom 2016, HLA, Ori and the Blind Forest, as well as a number of smaller games and ones I’m probably forgetting.
Undead nightmarrrrre, fuck yes. I generally don’t like rockstar games these days, but undead nightmare was so fucking good. I might actually have to buy it
Single player games with a good story and fun replayability are what I’m after. Or co-op. Occasionally, a fun multiplayer with a risky, innovative design like Lethal Company.
If a game requires me to collect 100 goddamn feathers, or press X 20 times to “survive” a heavily scripted encounter, you are doing your game wrong. Look at Black Mesa, look at Subnatica. Look at the games that took risks like Lethal Company or Elite Dangerous. You don’t have to appeal to everyone. You have to tell a story well, and the gameplay should be unique and interesting. Larian understood that with Divinity 2, and made improvements to both story and gameplay in BG3.
Don’t forget the meta where a new paid DLC weapon is super unbalanced and great for two weeks until the devs nerf it into the ground and everyone goes back to the default weapons that are just ok.
So, I’ve been getting into GBA and want some recommendations. I’ve been playing advance wars and really like it, anyone know any similar games? (Not fire emblem because permadeath is an annoying mechanic?...
Eh. Not really interested unless I can play Halo 3 on my phone. And even then, the DRM on the MCC is so awful that it makes me constantly sign in on my steam deck.
Mobile gaming had it’s time in the sun with Plants Vs Zombies and Infinity Blade. It’s been downhill ever since with the rise of f2p gambling/lootcrate games. I don’t see mobile gaming ever coming back from that until regulations are much, much stronger.
Initial scrolling of the Steam Summer Sale seems pretty lackluster, but digging through the comments sections in other threads, a few gems have stood out, and it doesn’t appear we have a thread dedicated to this yet, so post what you think are the best deals here!...
It’s a completely different game vs undertale. It’s like comparing Dota 2 to DiRT rally, haha. It’s worth going in blind, and the post-game is extremely good and very replayable (and adds new content).
Curious about y’alls opinions on this. I like the idea of getting new people to experience an older game by aligning it to modern graphics and accessibility standards. But capitalizing on nostalgia with quick updates to that make it look modern rather than making new games seems like just more of studios trying to squeeze...
The only remakes that I really liked were Black Mesa and the MCC. Black Mesa was such an incredible tribute to Half Life.
Some, like The Witcher (1), could absolutely use an overhaul because of bad gameplay issues, time constraints or budget cuts (Xen- Half Life, etc). Most, like Skyrim…eh. they don’t really need it as long as they sent patches for stuff like 144hz and ultrawide support.
