Continuing my Halloween-themed screenshot posts, today we’ll be looking at a different kind of game. Slay the Princess is a game about, well… slaying a princess. There’s a narrator who guides you through the woods and up to a cabin where a princess is chained in the basement, and in order to save the world, you need to...
Has red dead online actually gotten good? Rdr2 is my favorite game, but the online game bored the shit out of me. I thought this looked like Saint Denis, but I have never seen it snow there—why would it be snowing in a swamp?
Right? I’m not a huge gamer. I literally play maybe three games on rotation, and they’ve been the same games for years. But I’m super excited about this game. I might even buy it full priced. That’s how excited I am. Hats saying something. I don’t think I’ve ever bought a full priced game.
I hope there is a bunch of really sarcastic positive reviews, listing everything they hate about the game as if it’s what they really love about the game.
This happened to me! I thought I was buying the newest gen. But then…games I was trying to buy were “not optimized for your console.”
I’m still not sure which one I have. I think I have the ONE S. But the games I’m looking to buy are “optimized for X|S series,” but…don’t work on my console. I’m moving to PlayStation soon.
Also, I have a feeling all that news a few months ago about how they’re gonna stop support for Xbox and may not continue to make games for it or will shut down the console division or whatever cannot have helped sales. I don’t remember the articles exactly. But the impression I was left with was Xbox was on its way out. Why would I buy another if they’re unsure of its future?
My girlfriend has never really gamed. But she’s now forced to move less than she would like to (health problem) and she’s getting bored. I was thinking of introducing her to a game or two that we could play together. She’s not the real action game type, and seeing as she has no experience with controller/mouse and keyboard...
I was kind of wondering what everyone was upset about. Now, I was never a big gamer. I’ve always been a sort of edge-of-the-field game player. In my adult life (I grew up with Nintendo, then N64, then Xbox 360, and in the past couple years got an Xbox…S? Apparently whichever is the cheaper/shittier one. Because I wanted to try the resident evil 4 remake and I couldn’t get it because I needed the OTHER X|S version. Dumb.), I’ve really only played GTA IV, fifa, and then rdr2. I love all of those games and still replay them when I want to game.
So, that’s where I’m coming from. But watching this trailer, I just thought it looked maybe a little stiff and the graphics just okay—but with all the remakes and everything, are they looking better than rdr2? That’s one of the—no, scratch that. That’s the best looking game I’ve ever played. When I first started playing it last year, I was literally playing for hours and hours because it felt like…I was actually out in nature. I got lost in that game. Loved it. Still love it. My favorite game, for sure. Even though I’ve been playing fifa for a long time with friends.
Where am I even going with this at this point. I guess the question is how much better have games gotten since rdr2? What is the standard of quality for these remakes? I really loved The Suffering back on 360. That would be a cool remake.
Do you think it’s worth upgrading to a PS5 or an Xbox…x…or s…whichever is the higher quality one that would allow me to play RE4. Or at this point should I just wait for the next gen so I can play the NEW gta when it comes out next year? I’m basically a n00b and the gaming world is so complex these days. I love horror games and stuff like that, so how worth it is the new RE4?
I’m looking for recommendations for a backpack that will be used for commuting to work. What I’m looking for would have one large compartment that I could put a shirt and a pair of pants in, a Bluetooth speaker, a large Contigo water bottle and maybe some miscellaneous stuff. I don’t want a hundred pockets and compartments...
Don’t overthink it, look at classic Jansport bags. I’d gone through so many different backpack companies looking for a decent, reasonably priced backpack that wasn’t bogged down with useless shit but still had some organization for my daily carry stuff. I commute to work on the train and have to bring tools, not to mention some odds and ends for sporadic use, rain gear. So I got a bigger one, but it sounds like you could go with the medium size and you’d be right as rain.
It seems like bags these days are really pieces of shit, or they’re these super involved and stupidly expensive bags that are just entirely unnecessary. I’m glad I got a Jansport again. I just wish I had thought of it before I tried like four others that sucked.
Definitely Jansport. They have the classic bags that don’t even have the laptop sleeve against the backpad inside the large pocket. Although I found use for that pocket to store my book, so I can always find it quickly and it doesn’t get ripped.
Right?! Jansport served me so well my entire childhood. And then I just totally forgot about it when I wanted a “basic-normal looking” backpack that was simple and made sense. Long live Jansport.
Fair enough. OP seems like they really don’t need much more than something simple, though. That looks like a great utility backpack for specialized needs and a technical job with many little pieces for specific gear. It looks great, and it’s one of those backpacks that I always imagine I’d really enjoy, but I’m disorganized and like quick access to a big pouch and nothing else. I have a few Klein pouches I keep more specialized categories of smaller stuff in, and I think that’s as good as my organization gets. That bag looks great for professional camera stuff or something.
I got one of those, and it was like a black hole for my shit. Every time I needed something, I had to empty the entire bag. I sold it after like a couple weeks of use.
I recently got a Jansport after years of kind of forgetting about them, having used them for decades at school. Still great quality, exactly what I needed. So glad with the purchase. Best purchase I’ve made for my work in a long time.
I mean, the guy had a few decent points. I definitely agree with you as well—my constant replaying of gta V and rdr2 go to show that I love rockstar games. And I’m a different gamer than this guy. I have the same approach to movies, too. I work in film and all my friends are super film snobs and I’m like, “oh shit, I really liked it.” Because the story is my bread and butter. Rdr2 was an incredible story. I’ve replayed the entire campaign three times and each time I still felt the story, felt the characters…it worked for me. However, what this guy said is also true. For “strategy” gamers, yeah, their system is super limited. I mean, for a replay their style is super limited. You have “choices” technically—you can be good or bad, say yes or no to helping people, you can find interesting items off them when you decide to be bad and kill them, or sometimes they’ll reward you with cool items if you decide to help. The open world has some secrets to uncover but…ultimately, there is one track for the story (even if you can be white hat or black hat), and the open world experience, you can only discover what’s set out for you. You can’t “create” an experience that isn’t placed for you to find or that you decide to do differently than their predetermined triggers and paths. Basically what I’m saying is your “choices” in the game only serve to limit your path if you make the decision to, say, not help Mary—that storyline is just gone. You get a few new pieces of dialogue. That’s it. It’s all funneling you to their predetermined path. And that can get boring for some people.
All this said, I fuckin love rdr2. I love just fucking around in the open world when I don’t feel like playing missions, I like trying to survive a Saint Denis shootout by holding up somewhere or refusing to run. Shit, I’m STILL playing rdr2. That doesn’t happen when the game is bad. But I also agree with what he’s saying. Being able to actually alter the game, with your creative input having a consistent logic you can manipulate, would turn this game from an 8.75 to a 10. As it stands, the only time your in-game decisions truly make a difference is when they wipe out a side story line opportunity—or if they happen to be the final decision or two in their predetermined story.
I opened the video thinking, “pfft. Fuck this dude, these are some of my favorite (and in my opinion the best) games of all time.” But after actually watching some of it, he had good points.
