Shut the fuck up, boomer. No seriously, get that dated, old man yells at cloud bullshit out of politics.

This is bad advice. Don’t throw out the box immediately after opening your product. Rule of thumb; keep the box for as long as the warranty. If it’s a large thing, keep the box always in case you want to move.

The Switch 2 is more powerful than the Steam Deck… For now.

I do hope Valve can count higher than three with the Deck…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

That’s a lot of effort put into getting a console with little value. Maybe wait till after it’s hacked in… Oh… Like three years or something.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

It’s the repairability that concerns me. Valve has been very open about their hardware, even giving support to those with the intention of modifying their Steam Deck. I haven’t seen any other company sell hardware like that.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Probably won’t ever get a Ryujinx 2. I’d keep an eye out on Torzu.

However, the system will have to be hacked and decrypted first, but as of right now no real vulnerability has been discovered.

Tattorack,

8 core ARM processor for the Switch 2, custom-made by nvidia. I played on the Switch 2 on a 4k monitor, pretty sure upscaling was involved, but it’s very smooth.

Pretty sure a Deck 2 would significantly out-perform the Switch 2, but I haven’t heard anything about the Deck 2 yet.

Actually, looking at raw specs… the Switch 2 seems to have almost similar specs to the PS4… except it’s ARM, and the Switch actually has more GPU compute cores. And since the Steam Deck can’t emulate the PS4…

Yes, that’s why some over at GBATemp aren’t updating their switch and poking at it. But it’ll still take a while, and “while” is measured in years usually.

There’s a good chance that those with banned switches will be more motivated to find vulnerabilities in the system. Or give their banned switches to those that like finding vulnerabilities.

Also, just because some vulnerabilities are found, doesn’t mean that piracy is a guarantee; there was some drama with the 3DS, and then later with the Switch 1, with the people who found vulnerabilities and built hacks not wanting their work to be used for piracy. Piracy only started becoming a thing, then, when other parties replicated (or surpassed) the original hacks and made it available for piracy. This caused some of the hackers to to leave (I think one of them was RXTools. Luma3D far surpassed RXTools).

This is not a change.org petition. This is a European initiative. Meaning if this gets the necessary number of signatures this could get brought forth to the European Parliament, where laws on the subject can get negotiated over.

Let’s be real here; arrogant twats don’t off themselves. Too much ego.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Ah. You must be from The Divided Kingdom.

Tattorack,

Well, Warframes are killer space ninjas. A number of missions they do does indeed involve the gathering of intelligence, such as Spy, mobile defence, or Capture missions.

This can be considered normal, as the usual role for a ninja is intelligence gathering, with such things as assassination and murder usually being rare objectives. However, since Warframes are from the distant future, and have some pretty insane powers, it’s easy to assume the role of ninja has expanded somewhat.

Such as into fashion… Or looking practically naked.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

It’s still stealth if no one is left to talk about it, right?

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

That’s probably because you were breathing someone else’s air.

Pretty unacceptable.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

This would’ve been gold if the opposing team was Libre Office.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Correction:

It’s not the account that’s banned. It’s the device that’s banned. You can factory reset the Switch 2, completely wiping all data, and it will remain banned. This means that none of the games you’ve purchased legally will function, as cartridges no longer contain games and Nintendo’s services are required to play them.

It essentially becomes a useless flat tile.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

No, it’s way worse than merely an account ban.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

From what I’ve seen from the videos of people with banned Switch 2s:

Yes, it still boots.

There are active discussions already going on on GBATemp.net about Switch 2 bans and whatnot. I’d keep an eye on that forum to see how things develop.

Which Games Are Game-Key Cards?

Looking at the listings on Target and GameStop, I’ve noticed that many publishers decided to use the game-key card format. This is allegedly because Nintendo is only offering third-party developers the 64GB cartridge or the game-key card—there is no smaller, standard physical cart. This would explain why nearly every major (and minor) AAA release is on a game-key card, since publishers don’t want to pay extra for the more expensive storage space.

Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD, Hitman: World of Assassination, Hogwarts Legacy, Madden NFL 26, Raidou Remastered, Sonic X Shadow Generations, Split Fiction, Star Wars Outlaws, Street Fighter 6 Year 1-2 Fighters Edition, and Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut will all require an internet connection to download before playing. Civilization VII will actually just be a code in a box. I can image there will be more (of both) in the future; the Switch 2 only just launched.”

pcmag.com/…/nintendo-switch-2-game-cards-vs-game-…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

How do you play any new game? You need an internet connection to download games as the majority wont be true physical games anymore (the cartridge is a “key-card”).

Your console is banned from connecting to Nintendo’s services (apparently not for the console updating service, as users from gbatemp.net have figured out), so you won’t be able to play the majority of the Switch 2’s library, even when purchasing a game legally.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, but that’s not the same as merely putting the console into airplane mode. And it’ll be 2 to 3 years before CFWs, homebrew, and piracy will be viable on the Switch 2 (based on the time it required to do the same on the Switch 1, and 3DS).

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

But it can update the firmware.

According to those on GBATemp.net, the update server and the eshop server are both different. Your console being banned means it’s banned from all the shop services, but console updates still happen.

I think console updates are semi-forced, so you’ll still have to keep the Switch 2 offline and/or keep denying update prompts like usual, even if it’s banned.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Well… Sorta? The gameplay never adheres to the stuff written in the pokedex.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Played Conan Exiles. It’s my favourite survival game put of all the ones I’ve tried. Might give this one a shot, but I’ll have to see some gameplay and reviews first.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I’m tired of the pixel art aesthetic.

You can pick any artistic style you want. There literally aren’t any real hardware imitations to graphics anymore. And yet it’s always realistic graphics for AAA games, and pixel graphics for indie games (with a few rare ones in between that do it different).

Sigh…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I know it’s not. It’s about a sizable portion of indie developers and gamers being stuck in past nostalgia.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

You’re… Not exactly disproving what I said or making a real case why it’s beneficial. On the contrary, you’ve only reinforced exactly what I’m talking about:

For quite a period, and still today, the indie scene is dominated by pixel art, because those people grew up with games that looked that way, and are still stuck there. But now the people who grew up with the PS1 are also capable of completing game projects, and they themselves are stuck in their past.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Joke’s on you; I believe poetry is just pretentious writing.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Bionicle Masks of Power. And I highly doubt it. Something else is going with that…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Nice to see this game finally being completed.

I used to go to Lightbrick Studio here in Copenhagen to alpha-test the various features and mechanics they were developing for this game. That was a few years ago by now, where the environments looked a lot more bland (it was literally just a raw test of the puzzle mechanics).

Nice to recognise all the things I tested in the trailer.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Not sure if I’ll play this (maybe if I get it through Humble Monthly at some point), but I’m glad this exists. Nice to see studios trying different things.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

This might be the only extraction shooter I’ll be interested in.

Might…

… We shall see…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

This game looks so hoorrrnyyy.

Goodness gracious, the developers saw the Internet’s reaction to those twin bots from the first game and decided “yes! More of that!” XD

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Something about it reacting to metal? I don’t remember anything of wood shattering when Whitewalkers touched it…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

This trailer is entirely cinematic. I don’t know what to expect from the game, what kind of RTS it will be (does it feature base building? Is it more tactical or grand scale? Is it MOBA-like with hero units being the main feature? Is it war-game-like?). This trailer literally tells me nothing.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

“Chronicles: Medieval” sounds like the intention is to create a game series set in different time periods.

Considering the UI of the game, it looks to me it might be a kind of battle sim-esque thing kinda like Mount and Blade.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I still need to give the Sonic kart racing games a shot. It seems to be the only decent mascot kart racer available on PC.

Really wish the Crash Bandicoot one gets ported… But it’s still stuck on PlayStation…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Yep. I’ve heard good things about All Star Racing several times now. Probably should get it…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Sounds like the kind of game I want to avoid like a contagious cancer.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Does this update fixe the horrible graphical artefacting I’m experiencing? Probably not, huh…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I doubt the explosion resistance will be as high as a dedicated resistance armour.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Oh for fuck sake, this has never been a good argument, and people who keep repeating these argument-questions (almost like they’re a copy paste) either never read what Stop Killing Games demands, or lack the reading comprehension necessary to understand it.

The third option would be malicious sabotage, but I’m hoping it’s just one of the two stupidity options.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, they’ve just ensured the only way a person can play it is through piracy. Very smart move, WB, very smart…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not just limited to games…

We see it most prevalently in games because the gaming industry is massive. But this can also happen to your car… Or your fridge…

Here’s a fun story:

There were these few blind people who volunteered to have cybernetic implants that would help them (partially) see. The company went under, the patent is held by a patent troll, but the people still have those implants in their head… Which have now either shut down or are malfunctioning…

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

And it looks like you don’t understand what the fallacy means.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

No, I’m one of those “I hate double standards” type of people.
