Wait a sec. I’ve been considering getting this game, and you’re telling me they took out the ability to just wander around and fight respawning enemies? That’s a core memory I have of the original. There is no way I’m getting it if that’s been removed.
My wife and I have been playing almost every day for the past few weeks and neither of us even noticed that these existed. They aren’t pushing them all that hard and it’s easy to ignore.
The game executables haven’t changed. All they did was add a generic TOS. That doesn’t magically give the game the capability to get kernel level access.
Are you running it as root for some reason? Cause if you are not running it as root, it doesn’t have root access, absent some kind of major security flaw in Linux.
Man, fuck those levels. I literally could not progress in the game because I was stuck on one of those. That experience lowered my opinion of the entire game, and I’ve never gone back because of it.
A positive thing to let you experience the consequences of your actions. You are ignoring the fact that the game explicitly tells you when this happens, giving you the choice to continue if you like or reload a previous save if you don’t. It’s actually more forgiving than dying in most RPGs, which would force you to reload from a previous save.
