That’s what I read as well. You would think they would’ve gotten some leeway since it was done during an event comparable to war and they were following the footsteps of other digital libraries. They had a pretty stellar reputation and system in place for nearly a decade already, so I can only assume that they were simply waiting for an opportunity to target them.
I hope this is where it stops. Current laws aren’t too favourable towards projects like these and the IA depends heavily on donations so I don’t think they’d be able to withstand multiple drawn out court battles. I’m just waiting to see what gets affected exactly and to what extent.
I didn’t say it was dead, most of its domains were seized by the US, so they were in fact run off like dogs. I made a post a month or two back mentioning the new domain they have.
Lmao I’m so sorry! I realised afterwards what was happening, but have no idea how to fix it since I’m still fairly new to Lemmy. I hope it didn’t inconvenience you too much!
You absolutely can. A good portion of popular trackers have periodicall open signup events. Torrentleech has fairly often open signups. It’s big so it isn’t that easy to build up your ratio when you’re a drop in an ocean, but when you do it can open doors for some more prestigious trackers, although TL should be enough in 99% of cases if you aren’t into some (less popular) niche content. Watch r/opensignups on reddit if it’s still alive and soon enough you’ll be on too many trackers.
But recently PLEX says they will be blocking Hetzner hosting in the next few weeks. I’ve been considering moving to Jellyfin for a while, but I’m worried they will do the same thing in future.
Jellyfin: Completely autonomous of anything outside.
Plex: Authenticates with Plex servers so you need an external account
Jellyfin is a fully self-sufficient software not calling outside.
Jellyfin has no tracking, phone-home, or central servers collecting your data. We believe in keeping our software open and transparent. We’re also not in the media business, so the only media you see is your own.
On steam deck I mainly use dodi repack. From what I heard fit girl often do mistakes in repackages. (If someone is curious I can look for the game I had problem with, from memory that was a simple steamid missing in a crack) The trouble is once a version is out you can’t patch it.
I will try dodi’s version. I’m not interested in playing fps’s on my steam deck. I tried playing borderlands with a controller and it was an awful experience.
I only recently stopped using it. And a lot of content on the internet, expecially ones for download use rar part files to split it up and host freely.
