u202307011927, w Is It Farewell To The Internet Archive?

I still can access zlib what are you talking about??

Pearlescence,

I didn’t say it was dead, most of its domains were seized by the US, so they were in fact run off like dogs. I made a post a month or two back mentioning the new domain they have.

dewritochan, w Is It Farewell To The Internet Archive?
Pearlescence,

Lmao I’m so sorry! I realised afterwards what was happening, but have no idea how to fix it since I’m still fairly new to Lemmy. I hope it didn’t inconvenience you too much!

ColdWater, w How to get into private trackers
@ColdWater@lemmy.ca avatar

That’s the best part, you can’t

IDeserveToBeLoved,

You absolutely can. A good portion of popular trackers have periodicall open signup events. Torrentleech has fairly often open signups. It’s big so it isn’t that easy to build up your ratio when you’re a drop in an ocean, but when you do it can open doors for some more prestigious trackers, although TL should be enough in 99% of cases if you aren’t into some (less popular) niche content. Watch r/opensignups on reddit if it’s still alive and soon enough you’ll be on too many trackers.

notepass,

I think /r/opensignups closed after the blackout

toxictenement,
@toxictenement@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Theres r/trackersignups and the telegram channel r/opensignups migrated to of the same name.

notepass,

Thanks for the info!
I just checked trackersignups and found something spicy :)

It seems like r/opensignups telegram channel is just a bot posting the contents of /r/opensignups to it. So it is dead as well.

toxictenement,
@toxictenement@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Try searching it on telegram for the one with the deluge icon.

Appoxo, (edited ) w With PLEX blocking Hetzner Hosting, I'm thinking of Moving to Jellyfin, but I have some questions.
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

But recently PLEX says they will be blocking Hetzner hosting in the next few weeks. I’ve been considering moving to Jellyfin for a while, but I’m worried they will do the same thing in future.

Jellyfin: Completely autonomous of anything outside.
Plex: Authenticates with Plex servers so you need an external account

Jellyfin is a fully self-sufficient software not calling outside.

From the jellyfin core team (see point 2): www.reddit.com/r/…/jellyfin_and_privacy/?utm_sour…

From their website literally on the homepage:

Privacy Focused

Jellyfin has no tracking, phone-home, or central servers collecting your data. We believe in keeping our software open and transparent. We’re also not in the media business, so the only media you see is your own.

TheMadnessKing, w Why WARP is OK for torrenting

Afaik, there was a script that gives you free data for Warp+ too.

fernandorincon, w Can they even track pirated installs ?

I’m sure they can track the installation. Not sure if they can tell it was pirated.

Petter1,

I guess that would depend on the cracker…

christiannils, w Radarr + Real-Debrid setup guide?

You can use github.com/rogerfar/rdt-client and integrate it as you would do with qBittorrent. The RDT-client mimics the qBittorrent API.

Diurnambule, (edited ) w Which cracks and repacs works best on linux?

On steam deck I mainly use dodi repack. From what I heard fit girl often do mistakes in repackages. (If someone is curious I can look for the game I had problem with, from memory that was a simple steamid missing in a crack) The trouble is once a version is out you can’t patch it.

UntouchedWagons,
@UntouchedWagons@lemmy.ca avatar

I can’t install Fit Girl’s Starfield repack.

Diurnambule, (edited )

Dodi one work fine. He even have a no unpack version. Do you try to install, unpack on SteamDeck ?

UntouchedWagons,
@UntouchedWagons@lemmy.ca avatar

I will try dodi’s version. I’m not interested in playing fps’s on my steam deck. I tried playing borderlands with a controller and it was an awful experience.

Diurnambule,

I use dodi on on my PC on steamos. Work pretty well. Still got some random crash but not enough to be too anoying

echodot, (edited ) w Can they even track pirated installs ?

Oh it’s our fault for being confused is it, ok.

What a jackass.

Oh and look at that they are 100% going to increase the price on you down the line.

fiat_lux, w Can Pirate's Bay be considered "safe" if it is used only for non-executable multimedia content?

Not necessarily. For example, I know RAR is a bit out of style, but WinRAR just this week had some articles about malware lurking in otherwise non-executable files

There is no such thing as 'safe' user-generated content, only a spectrum of more or less safe content.

FeelzGoodMan420,

Who the actual fuck still uses winrar?

fiat_lux,

Enough people that the dude is still actively supporting and updating it for new OS versions. The RAR is unkillable.

Historical_General,

I only recently stopped using it. And a lot of content on the internet, expecially ones for download use rar part files to split it up and host freely.

FeelzGoodMan420,

You can just use 7zip tho

Sina, w A way to disable laugh tracks?

I don’t recommend doing this. The dialog is far worse with the awkward gaps of silence.

I remember watching a few short vids on Youtube where people were making claims that Friends is unfunny garbage with out without the laugh track, but the truth is the awkward silences kill all jokes.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

You reposted this comment 4 times.

kersploosh, w A way to disable laugh tracks?
@kersploosh@sh.itjust.works avatar

Not easily. The laugh track isn’t a separate audio stream by the time you get the episode. It’s all mixed together with the dialogue and music.

Watching a sitcom with the laugh track missing seems like it would be awkward. The actors are constantly taking extended pauses between lines, or sometimes in the middle of a line, while the laugh is happening.

SirGaston,
@SirGaston@feddit.de avatar

Yeah I get what you mean, I just watched the link from the comment below and it feels really weird to watch it like this.

CmdrShepard,

Now you must go further down the rabbit hole and watch musicless music videos on youtube.

downhomechunk,
@downhomechunk@midwest.social avatar

Challenge accepted!

DetachablePianist,

This one’s my favorite: vid.puffyan.us/watch?v=BHkhIjG0DKc

SirGaston,
@SirGaston@feddit.de avatar

Hahaha, pure art!

AceQuorthon,

What the hell is that instance name xD

DetachablePianist,

Just the Invidious instance I found on the official list a long time ago. I like them because they’re relatively local, super reliable, and unlike a lot of other instances they actually have the download feature enabled. But yeah, their domain name is a bit awkward, lol.

nestEggParrot,

Do you mean muted music videos or is there something else entirely ?

CmdrShepard, (edited )

They’re music videos where the music and singing is cut and ‘ambient’ noise like squeaky shoes, breathing, grunting while doing dance moves, etc is dubbed back in. You’ll see what I mean if you watch one. It may be the same thing but I’ve just always heard of them referred to as “musicless music videos”

nestEggParrot,

I did. It was quite funny listening to just the lyrics. Would have been nice if they managed to keep the original vocals but that whispering voice made it funnier.

Tippon,

I used to work in a nightclub. We had a TV show book the club during the day to shoot some scenes, so the cast were acting out drinking and dancing, but without any music. It’s probably the most surreal thing I’ve seen in my life.

Lemmchen,

I don’t see anything preventing someone from not just cutting the audio out, but the video, too. Then there shouldn’t be any awkward pauses.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It might make for some very choppy transitions in certain areas, you’d need a way to smooth it out to make it less abrupt while still cutting out the majority of it in the parts where hard cutting wouldn’t work well.

supervent, w What are the best alternatives to The Pirate Bay in 2023?

For me it’s fine for tv shows & movies. I also use ed2k/kad network.

OverfedRaccoon,

Wow, ed2k is still alive and kicking? I don’t think I’ve used them since like 2005.

supervent,

Yeah, it works like a charm, by the way I use Mldonkey, but you have also emule & amule.

people_are_cute, w Which cracks and repacs works best on linux?
@people_are_cute@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Who cracked or repacked it doesn’t make a difference, how much the game itself supports Linux does.

gamedeviancy,
@gamedeviancy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Idk I usually have problem with fitgirl repacs so maybe for Linux are better alternatives

yote_zip,
@yote_zip@pawb.social avatar

In my experience DODI installers tend to work slightly better than Fitgirl’s on Linux, but keep in mind that different games are compressed with different tools, and some of those tools inherently work better on Linux/Wine than others. The standard Ubisoft compression tool (more accurately it’s called a precompressor) has given me a lot of trouble on Linux, and every repacker is going to be using that same tool. Grabbing clean files and applying a crack yourself is always going to be the most compatible way.

people_are_cute,
@people_are_cute@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

If you don’t have bandwidth or storage restrictions, I’ll always recommend you pull directly from a scene release or a clean steam dump instead of a repack.

theshatterstone54, (edited )

I’ve often been having issues with FitGirl as well. Dodi repacks have always worked for me though.

Overmind, w Why WARP is OK for torrenting

I’ve been using warp since a couple of years. I honestly didn’t care about my IP being leaked to the torrent sites because I no longer try to visit any honeypot. The only thing I wanted was to keep my ISP away from my actions and warp has always done that seamlessly.

I did a test with my pihole where pihole was unable to block any adverts when I was connected to warp which made me realise that it’s not just a custom dns solution but a tunnel to the website where no one else can snoop on your traffic.
