22rw, w [Request] Remove ads from Duolingo?

Revanced has a premium patch for duolingo: revanced.app/patches?s=duolingo

can, (edited )

Oh wow, thank you. Do I need to download an older version of the app? It’s telling me Duolingo is not installed.

Edit: tried downloading from apkmirror

https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/6d642995-775b-4009-be37-ee28c60aeaf2.webp

Do I need to be rooted or can I find another download source?

mustbe3to20signs,

You need to grab the Duolingo APK from a source like APKpure or APKMirror and patch this file.
This is because the installed Duolingo app consists of multiple (split-)APKs.

can, (edited )

The download from apk mirror appears split as well? Maybe I downloaded the wrong one.

Edit there were two version. The patch is broken atm anyway.

ililiililiililiilili,

It appears you’re attempting to patch the installed app. Download the APK and patch that file. Then install the modded APK.

You can download APK here: apkmirror.com/…/duolingo-duolingo-5-120-3-release…

can, (edited )

I think that worked. I had downloaded the split one before. Am I safe to use my existing account?

Spoke too soon. I think the patch is broken. Thank you though.

22rw,

Just created a duolingo account myself to check, the patch is indeed broken :/

did you find any alternative?

can,

Haven’t tried it yet but it’s starting to look like I should open a French school.

22rw,

haha well good luck then, should be the most secure option out there :D

Xirup,

What the heck, I had no idea that Revanced had the ability to patch apps other than Youtube! Thank you for saying so.

Grr_Im_a_Bear,

Thanks for this. Not sure how to save posts so I'm commenting instead.

can,

What app are you using?

ByteWizard,

Hit the three dots, then the star icon to save a post.

ClemaX,

Is yours working? Just tried it and apparently the patch prevents you from logging in. If it does, which version are you using?

22rw,

no version i tried worked so far, it seems the patch is broken for every version.

Hopefully someone will update the patch in the future

xspurnx, w Is It Farewell To The Internet Archive?

I can’t believe these are the times we live in. The services of the Internet Archive are invaluable for scholars and students alike. No library can afford all the printed books/journals or licenses needed for an adequate approach to most topics. And to be honest, shadow libraries are also much needed when publishers lock away vital knowledge (which was often gained through support from public grants).

This seems just another example of how capitalism will bring about the downfall of our civilization as it hinders the progress of science.

pelikan, w What are the best alternatives to The Pirate Bay in 2023?

rutracker or 1337x

Auli, w With PLEX blocking Hetzner Hosting, I'm thinking of Moving to Jellyfin, but I have some questions.

Jellyfin can’t do the same thing. Well they might be able maybe. Everyone logs on through plex servers and Plex has the IP address of all the servers. Jellyfin everything is local so no central servers to control who logins from where.

fraydabson, w With PLEX blocking Hetzner Hosting, I'm thinking of Moving to Jellyfin, but I have some questions.

I feel like this could mean plex might do the same thing with real Debrid. Time to move over to Jellyfin. Good timing too since I just started using nix os

Draconic_NEO, w Can they even track pirated installs ?
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Not really, they just go by if the game isn’t selling well, or rather isn’t selling well enough for them, obviously they have to be careful not to do it too aggressively otherwise otherwise they’ll come off as being greedy or whiny about poor sales, which isn’t a good look on any dev (especially if it’s not actually related to piracy, then it hurts their argument).

They’ve just been careful enough to only whip out the crybaby arguments when it’ll work in their favor and seem enough like piracy, as opposed to doing it too much or at the wrong time and seeming salty about low sales (to be fair that’s exactly what’s happening, but people think they know more about who buys vs who pirates, rather than who buys vs who doesn’t).

Sci Hub is not down or did I miss something?

gressen,

Looks fine from here.

florge,

Don’t forget, this is a publicly traded company.

All info from them should only be considered PR until verified through strict testing, which is difficult because it is a black box.

HughJanus, w Can Pirate's Bay be considered "safe" if it is used only for non-executable multimedia content?

You can check justwatch.com to see if it’s available anywhere for streaming or purchase. I dunno how they do it but they’re amazing at tracking this sort of thing.

ChojinDSL, w Is there a way to seed things I have downloaded but already deleted the torrent for?
@ChojinDSL@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Depending on your client, there may be different directories for complete and incomplete torrents, so you may have to put the downloaded files in the incomplete folder. If your client only checks the incomplete folder when starting a torrent.

Honestly, nowadays I just pick the first thing I find. It’s been a long while since any of them gave me any trouble. Wine has come a long way.

Don’t forget Prowlarr for managing trackers and downloaders across all of your Arr suite!

blashork, w Which cracks and repacs works best on linux?
@blashork@hexbear.net avatar

there’s a group called johncena141 who do linux specific repacks. They put the windows game in a dwarfs read only compressed archive, and then have an editable layer on top of it where saves and changes get written. The windows games are put into a wine wrapper and then you can run them while they’re still compressed. It’s pretty cool, but can be a bit finicky. Getting dwarfs installed can be a pain depending on your system. I find their stuff can be very hit or miss, but I like that they exist.

Besides that, ymmv with all the other repacks. Sometimes fitgirl works fine for me, sometimes it fucks up completely. Same goes for dodi. though I’ve found dodi to be a bit more reliable on wine than fitgirl.

That’s my two cents on stuff.
