I really hope it turns out well. Fallout/Skyrim with spaceships is basically my dream game and if this can live up to it even half way through, it's still going to be better than any other attempt at it in the last decade (looking at you SC, NMS, ED, X4).
I'm still gonna give it at least 6 months before getting it though, maybe by then we get some substantial patches or (UI) mods as well. I still have some other big games in the backlog so I'm in no rush, after all I've been waiting a while for sth like this ^^
That's what do as well. While I was desperate waiting for BG3 to release, when it finally arrived I was totally overwhelmed by the game. It is really heavy weighted. The shear mass of possibilities and consequences makes it hard, at least for me, to relax without fomo.
This truly seems like a cursed genre - I was really hoping to get some alternative warframe-adjacent game to play during content droughts but it seems it's not meant to be. Looks like another mmo-lite looter shooter that seems to have missed its mark, both in terms of gameplay, grind and monetization.
It is still in early access (that you have to pay to access) but it's supposed to be released and f2p within a year so we'll see what happens then.
I think Austin’s review actually missed the amount of mechanical depth that exists in the game already. One of his complaints was that there’s seemingly no reason to put melee on “ranged” characters or vice-versa, but I can say that’s definitely wrong. I’ve primarily been playing Venomess with a Sword and Shield, since it pushes her to near-guaranteed critical hits. One of the SnS options has a potion interaction that lets it oneshot enemy guard meters, which puts them in a state of vulnerability and stunlocks them until they recover. I will say Gungrave is a bit lacking since his skills have extremely low multipliers, so his ability to clear dungeons with a gun is extremely lacking until you get the railgun with infinite body and terrain punchthrough.
On a related note, I wouldn’t say the itemisation is lacking either. They’re taking the modern Warframe approach of every weapon doing something cool. There are basic store-bought weapons, but all of the crafted weapons do something interesting that changes your playstyle. One pair of daggers is unusually good at breaking guard meters, and also places a unique buff on you that boosts all damage, including ability damage, which is totally unique to that weapon and that weapon alone. Another pair poison enemies, which lets one of the two “ranged” Wayfinders (Silo in this case) keep a damage vulnerability debuff rolling on the enemy.
Also disagree with the comment about buildcraft being lacking. Different weapons and weapon types interact with the heroes in different ways, so there’s quite a good loop of doing some theorycraft to find your optimal stat ratios for particular combinations, and what your playstyle is. Two weeks in, and the Venomess community on the official Discord are still debating whether to focus on weapon attacks or abilities, which weapons to use, how to balance crit vs base damage, etc.
Also being a huge Warframe fan, this is scratching that JRPG fiend itch for games with weird synergies and interactions and a really rich character building space to experiment in. Haven’t had this much fun since the first six weeks of the Incarnon launch.
I’ve played the first two hours on PS Plus and it’s excellent so far. I’m actually considering purchasing it separately on Steam just so I can play it on the Steam Deck as well 👀
I went straight for the Steam Deck version and it is a perfect handheld game. The fights don't drag on too long, and the suspend / resume is really nice to have.
I'm not surprised they feel like that, they have a lot in common with the gaming space in terms of fucking up franchises due to unrealistic expectations
I was kinda hoping the enoughmuskspam community would be focused on talking about innovative tech/engineering work happening at other companies. I guess that’s more the point of “futurology”, but still…
His companies are fine. (minus Twitter) SpaceX and Tesla are great he just needs to keep his fucking mouth shut and do his job. The man is cringe and is taking his billionaire status too hard.
I say this as someone who doesn't like MTX, but I've never understood how optional cosmetics ever factor into whether a game is "complete". The only way they could be seen as an important part of the game is if you play games to play dressup. Which I get if you're playing a fashion designer style game or a game thats almost purely social, but in the majority of games they don't fucking matter at all. How do people get so bent out of shape about them?
The only way they could be seen as an important part of the game is if you play games to play dressup.
You really shouldn't be but I feel you'd be surprised how many people, especially MMORPG players, care about this. I personally play GW2 a lot and since there's no gear treadmill unlocking cosmetics is one of the main goals you can actually do there, to show off your accomplishments or hard work. Ofc it's not the only thing keeping players engaged but it is a major part of it.
Besides, if it didn't matter to players then it wouldn't be monetized as much in the first place. So whenever I see this argument "well its just cosmetics so it doesnt matter:", I get kinda frustrated because obviously it matters, obviously it works which is why it's still a thing to monetize so much.
Glad they're taking a break, and hope things work out for them. Making games is tough, and making games like this which are more on the niche side can't have been easy, especially since the profits probably weren't stellar either.
And that re-release was a port of the android version (that was also a re-release)
A re-release does not always means a graphical upgrade, it just means release the game on new systems or stores
If you had the original 2004 release installed on PC it would not receive an update patch in 2014. They just released it in new platforms (Steam) and since they were releasing the game again they had to change it because they music rights were not negotiated for that release
I have a former best friend who still somehow finds a way to fanboy over Musk, despite the excessive information about him and actions he's taken. All very public and easy to find information, yet never swayed the guy's opinion and the last time we talked about it he was still fanboying. It really should have been a warning sign of things to come with that friendship. Truly, only mentally and emotionally inept losers are still on Musk's side and the former friend's the only person I know who still has a favorable opinion of Musk.
Tough luck man. Have been in this situation a couple times.
Current working theory is that the reason are our relationship templates formed in childhood.
If someone has had abusive and/or gaslighting role models early on, they will not avert or even seek narcissistic relationships. I have been in this situation for a long time and am working for years to get rid of it.
This is what I think happens with people liking clear cut narcissists like musk and having friends who „somehow“ like him.
Sometimes people flock to a figure because they see them as a struggling underdog challenging the whole world.
But even that angle kinda falls apart when you remember that this guy is the wealthiest person in the world. He's not a brave rebel. He's not even taking a stance on something important, though he very well could, with his money.
