SuperSleuth, w The Lords of the Fallen: The First 13 Minutes of Gameplay

It seems like this game took a lot of “inspiration” from FromSoft’s titles. That’s opening it up to critiques and comparisons to FromSoft’s game design.

Like how the riposte mechanic doesn’t look like it really impacts enemies in the same satisfying way.

icepuncher69, w The First 16 Minutes of Blasphemous 2 Gameplay

Great, i love blasphemous 1. 2nd now looks even better.

BrowseMan, w Manic Miners: a LEGO Rock Raiders remake - Launch Trailer

Whaaaaaat? They made a game for this lego serie? OK now I NEED to try it. Thanks for the share!

djsaskdja, w Stalker 2 could still release this year, according to distributor listing

This feels like a classic Spring release type game.

MarcomachtKuchen, w Baldur's Gate 3 - Community Update #23: Here's To You

Small Spoiler warning i heard there are some graphics shwoing percentages of a decision you make in the first 10h of the game.

zer0,

Excellent, make sure not to use closed launchers to play this

BluePhoenix01, w Pikmin 4 tops the Japanese charts for the third week in a row

Is this game much better than the demo? I played the demo with my kid and overall the couch coop game with the dog seemed much weaker than Pikmin 3. Maybe it gets better?

DiddyFingers,
@DiddyFingers@lemdro.id avatar

I didn’t play the demo but I assume it’s gameplay very early in the game. My review is that the game starts too slow which is probably what you experienced. Overall it might be worse than Pikmin 3 Deluxe but Pikmin 4 is still a quality game that gets better when you’re around the mid-way point. It’s surprisingly long too (going for all treasure, not speedrunning) and overall I think it’s worth the price.

BluePhoenix01,

Thanks for the update! Right now it seems kid lost interest because of no co-op, but I’m sure that will change with time. It really seems like a solid game.

caballeroAguila,

The game itself is excellent but the coop is pretty weak. Versus battles are a lot of fun and better balanced than Pikmin 3.

BluePhoenix01,

That’s good to know, thank you!

Bluescluestoothpaste, w Europa Universalis IV and Orwell: Keeping an Eye on You free on Epic Games this week

Am I crazy or is europa universalis just a worse version of crusader kings? Love crusader kings but mever tried EU because it just seems like the same game with less features?

lvxferre,
@lvxferre@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s the same engine, but the focus is different: CK is about the ruling dynasty, EU is about the country itself. Time period is also different (EU4 goes from 1444 to 1821),

A good example of that is that in EU4 your country can be the junior partner of a personal union, where it needs to fight against its rulers to get independence. You won’t see anything similar in CK3, because you are the ruling dynasty.

Bluescluestoothpaste,

I guess, idk that seems less fun to me lol. And in CK3 you can absolutely be a vassal of a larger kingdom and fight (or negotiate) for your independence.

lvxferre,
@lvxferre@lemmy.ml avatar

And in CK3 you can absolutely be a vassal of a larger kingdom and fight (or negotiate) for your independence.

Yes but you can’t be a junior partner of a personal union, since this means that you (the dynasty) would be fighting yourself. On the other hand in EU4 this works fine since you’re the Senate government/country/state itself, not the king or the dynasty. It was just an example on the different focus, mind you.

On EU4 being less fun than CK3: personally I like EU4 better because I care far more about groups in Modern times interacting on a global level than individuals in Mediaeval times interacting on a regional level. And EU4 always involves some sort of “if I did this in real life I’d be a monster” decision, that actually makes me understand a lot of the shit that governments do, such as culturecide or backstabbing/Realpolitik.

But there’s no “right” choice, it’s different strokes for different folks.

WarmSoda, w Translators for Baldurs Gate 3 worked for 3 years translating more than 1 million words and Altagram Group only credited their execs and leads

That’s how being a vender works.

deranger,

I’d say that’s okay if only the company is credited by name, but the execs names were included. If they’re including names, include all the names. It’s not a long list from what I saw on Twitter.

Player2, w EA online services shutdown, Crysis 3, Dante's Inferno, and Dead Space 2

I guess EA can’t run Crysis any more

pastermil,

“But does it run Crysis?”

“No, but not for the reason you’d expect”

James, w Xbox Game Pass trial reduced from one month to 14 days

A little bit puzzling at first, but it does make sense.

With starfield coming out, they don’t want people to get the trial to essentially play it for free and then stop using the service.

1 month is just about enough time to beat a large game for someone who has a few hours a day to play. 14 days won’t be enough for most people.

avatar, w Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the Super Mario Bros. Movie drove Nintendo to a record-breaking quarter | Geek Centrals

But which did better, and by how much over the other?

TheYang,
@TheYang@lemmy.ml avatar

As of August 6, 2023, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has grossed $574.2 million in the United States and Canada, and $779.3 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $1.355 billion.

wiki

[Tears of the Kingdom] sold more than 10 million copies in its first three days of release, and had sold over 18.5 million copies by June 2023.

wiki

at 69.99 a game, would mean the total volume sold is roughly $1.295 billion, 60 million less than the Super Mario Movie.

I’m not certain if the movie gross is the same calculation though. It seems that the calculation is fair But data for Tears of the Kingdom is about a month older so that it seems possible it passed The Super Mario Movie by now.

BlackEco, w Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare Coming to Switch and PS4
@BlackEco@lemmy.blackeco.com avatar

That’s not what I wanted, I wanted RDR on PC 😟

Anyway, it’s extremely weird that they chose to release it on PS4 with backward compatibility to PS5 🤔 (according to Rockstar)

circuitfarmer,
@circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

This gives me a little hope that we can at least emulate the PS4 version (using pcsx4). This can be done already with the PS3 version but the requirements are hefty and it’s pretty clunky.

Edit: nm, pcsx4 is scammy and bad news.

    My thinking was the graphics themselves actually, on the assumption that the Switch version wouldn’t look as good, but wasn’t considering that this is an old title so probably won’t matter

    SadSadSatellite, w Humble Choice August 2023 Review: A Stellar Month

    Some good stuff on there. I’m still playing outer worlds from last month.

    stephen01king,

    I’m still playing Temtem.

    FracturedEel,

    I went to claim it and it said they ran put of keys. Never seen that before. I have the normal version but not the spacers choice edition

    Cheese, w OpenMW (Open Morrowind) 0.48.0 Released!

    Anyone here still play the game? Is it still worth playing, compared to newer games?

    Computerchairgeneral,

    I'd say so, but then again Morrowind has a lot of quirks that make it hard to get into for modern players. Like the fact that the game doesn't have quest markers. Instead, you get directions like "follow the road and turn left at the fork, it'll be the first cave you see" and you have to follow those directions if you want to find anything. Or how the game uses a dice roll-like system to decide if you hit with your weapon or succeed at casting a spell. At the same time, there is a lot to like about Morrowind if you give it a chance. Unlike a lot of modern RPGs, you don't start out as anyone special. You're a nobody and you stay as a nobody for a good chunk of the game. To advance in the various guilds you have to actually level up your various skills and do enough quests to earn a promotion. So when you do reach the rank of guild master or complete the main quest and people call you a hero it feels like you've really accomplished something.

    So yeah. Definitely worth playing, but it's not for everybody and you have to remember that it's an RPG from the early 2000s. If you play it with OpenMW there's a great site called Modding OpenMW that catalogs mods that are compatible with OpenMW.

    verysoft,

    I wish RPGs would be more RPG again, immerse us in the world with things like directions rather than a UI for everything. Make players figure things out instead of being so hand-holdy.
