The game is not dead, it’s undead, wavering towards the finish line so it could be put out of it’s misery.

It’s been 10 years in development and as far as I understand it, you can get off the ship at certain sports but most of the time you’re basically just playing as a ship while at sea, not a pirate sailing a ship. I say you’re right, this game will be DOA with a game like Sea of Thieves around.

sirfancy,

As soon as I remembered this was Ubisoft, I had zero interest. I’m sure I’m not the only one with this perspective either, so yeah, probably gonna be DOA.

Pxtl, w where do yall go for your gaming coverage/pods?
@Pxtl@lemmy.ca avatar

Games are entertainment, and so I get my news coverage from people who I find entertaining. This means I’ll take biased, opinionated ranting if it’s funny-enough. So mostly Yahtzee.

I get my Serious News about municipal politics.

peasinspace,

100%, personality goes a lot way.

which is why im so partial to the current incarnation of giant bomb. i didn’t follow them in theur bigger days so i had no preconceived notion of what GB should be, i just followed jeff grubb to it when he moved there from gamesbeat. super charistmatic dude, funny as hell, great takes, goes out of his way to help signal boost other games media people.

the chemistry the gb crew has is magic and they all have great and distinct tastes in games. plus they do stupid shows like blight club where they pick awful games for each other to beat like bubsy 3d, sonic 06, robocop for xbox and heckle each other/ laugh at each other’s misfortunes

Bluefold, w Baldur's Gate 3 review - a critical success, with critical failures

One QoL improvement I’ve not seen here is a better journal system. When I can’t further a quest line even something vague like ‘Continue your journey so learn more’ would be great. I have spent time on some quests hunting down a person to discover the quest can only be completed in the next act multiple times now.

BaskinRobbins,

This was an issue I had with DOS2 as well. It was at the point I literally wrote stuff down in a notebook so that I could keep track of the side quests and what the last step was. Eventually they did overhaul the journal in that game to be a lot more useful though.

Potatos_are_not_friends, w Gamescom 2023 to host record number of exhibitors

I’m totally okay with that.

Absolutely no need for games that are already doing a major advertising blitz to own 4 booths and push small indie devs to the farthest corners of the expo. For many of these indie studios, these expos is the only paid advertising they get.

Minnmax - Some former Game Informer peeps pulled a Nextlander and it’s been great. For anyone checking it out for the first time now, usually Ben Hansen is the host, but he’s away for a time on paternity leave.

peasinspace,

Kaiserschmarrn, w Gamescom 2023 to host record number of exhibitors

I’m really excited to see how this year’s Gamescom turns out. I’m attending with some friends of mine because we won tickets for the Trade Visitor Day and the last time I was there was nearly 10 years ago. I’m just a bit worried because it seems that more and more of the big Publishers are skipping events like these and rather make a live stream instead.

Meowoem, w Baldur's Gate 3 review - a critical success, with critical failures

Loving the game, do agree though that it starts to get a bit muddled and confusing - at times it feels like I’m not really sure which quests I’m doing, why I’m doing it or what I’m trying to achieve – very realistic to real life in that regard but it can feel a bit of a chore

tburkhol,

I kind of stopped paying attention to side quests. In a lot of RPGs, I feel like they’re discrete, separate errands, and usually contained within the area where they’re given. BG3 side quests seem a lot more integrated, in the sense that I’ll often just happen along the next step in one as I pursue main quest. If not, then it may be because the next step is in the next Act. And some of them seem to be mutually exclusive.

Maybe because it’s my first play through, but I’m now in ‘if it happens, it happens’ mode, and I’m confident that there are enough opportunities for me to make different choices to have a substantially different experience next time.

Naz,

Jesse Cox has 5 Minute Gaming News that lists news into little bite-sized chunks that I can handle every weekday. Used to love Jesse on the Cooptional and Cox n Crendor podcasts so I like listening to him.

Also every Friday Crendor is featured on the Cren Minute where he talks about whatever he wants and its the most redundant and hilarious thing to me.

And shoutouts to Lyle Wrath’s hilarious Pregame Discharge show where he lays out the news in an extreme and absurd way. Used to be weekly but now kind of forced to be monthly after Destructoid dropped it.

Hyggyldy,

Nice to see Jesse mentioned. I love his entire sphere of friends.

One qol improvement I’d like to see is faster team roster selection. Like every time you leave camp, you should get to select which companions will go with you (similar to many other CRPGs). Right now I find myself not using certain companions as often, mostly because I don’t want to go run around my camp for a minute rearranging my squad. It should be a simple drag and drop interface.

slazer2au, w EA loses minor FIFA loot box legal case in Austria

The order comes from Landesgericht für Zivilrechtssachen Wien, which is a regional court in Vienna. The court ruled that these loot boxes violate gambling laws. However, this is a standalone decision, and has no wider impact on the country’s legal position on loot boxes.

In Austria, civil cases are taken on a case-by-case basis, and the courts are not bound by previous decisions.

So nothing will come of this.
