gsf, w CD Projekt employees form a union

Not just at CD Projekt. This is a trade union!

Gorgeous_Sloth, w Cyberpunk's storytelling makes Starfield seem ancient

I absolutely don’t get why Bethesda sold Starfield as a “new generation rpg”. It’s nothing but an archaic game with old mechanics. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really enjoying my time on the game so far (30/40h).

tanpopopper, w Persona Collection Bundle Released on PS4, PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam

No discount for already owned games on steam though… :(

MacAttak8,

Sounds like business as usual for Atlus

lupec,

It’s worse than that, you can’t even get it for yourself at all if you already own anything in there. Or at least I don’t seem able to do anything but get it as a gift.
Apparently the publisher can either set it up like that or have the usual partial discount you mentioned, and Atlus unsurprisingly chose the most infuriating option.

Chozo, w Everybody Hates This YouTube Channel’s AI-Filtered Video Game Faces

This article is absurd. Corridor made a tech demo to show what's possible with AI. They weren't suggesting that it should or shouldn't be how things are done in the gaming industry, just how it could be done. What sort of smoothbrain neanderthals take issue with a tech demo?

Chariotwheel,

The title should already give you a hint. "Everybody Hates" is a good beginning to a title for a 00s sitcom, but not exactly peak journalism here.

Mr_Blott,

Didn’t even open it, downvoted just for that stupid title

MomoTimeToDie,

What sort of smoothbrain neanderthals

Kotaku

atlasraven31,

Yeah, that tracks.

oddspinnaker,

I opened it just to see some of the photos, and my browser crashed. The photos aren’t even good, don’t even open the link.

I don’t think I realized Kotaku had gotten this bad. Yikes!

ShittyRedditWasBetter, w Cyberpunk's storytelling makes Starfield seem ancient

Don’t get me wrong, I love starfield, but the creation engine and faux rpg thing they have going is starting to heavily show its age.

1984, w Why CCP haven't stopped trying to make an EVE Online shooter for 15 years
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I remember Eve Online. Excellent screen saver with spin the ship features.

Chunk,

I just came off a bipolar induced manic phase. I hyper focused on eve and played it literally 8-12 hours a day for a few weeks.

The game is fun. It’s a slow burn and a lot of the allure comes from the setting itself. I don’t have nearly enough time to play anymore. Getting your ship into the pvp zone, finding a group, and finding a fight can easily take an hour.

Nacktmull,
@Nacktmull@lemmy.world avatar

I also never really got into it because it is pretty boring. Another reason is the time sink / grindfest this game is. If I want a job I will get one that pays me and not the other way around. That is ofc just my opinion and I send a glhf to everyone who enjoys playing EVE!

1984,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I played it while I was unemployed, it’s great for that. You can spend your entire days in there, and forget about your problems in the real world.

Nacktmull,
@Nacktmull@lemmy.world avatar

I am not unfamiliar with what you are describing. Games can be of help in certain situations and as long as we don’t get too lost in them and don’t neglect our real life there is nothing wrong with it.

Skies5394, w Over 6,100 gaming jobs have been cut in 2023 (so far)

It’s a bunch of bean counters seeing trends in the markets, seeing others cutting jobs and following suit.

Bull, bear markets, trends, the whole thing is fucked.

It’s spoken about like it’s some mythical, mysterious thing and the government can try to rein it in with their levers if they must as a last resort, because we mustn’t interfere with the markets unless the outlook is bleak.

Give me a fucking break. Is anyone buying this anymore?

The old rich fucks and their old rich fuck friends and their old rich fuck companies, investment firms, hedge funds, whatever else their wrinkly old hands can get on they will move in their directions as they choose.

They don’t lose at this game and they’re pulling away at an outrageous rate, they’re killing us and the planet while they’re at it. They don’t even have to. They don’t even fucking have to. The people who have the shortest time left here are trying to suck the most out of it before they leave and leave way less of it for the rest of us.

I don’t know when others will start getting mad, but it’ll probably be too late.

figaro, w Meta Quest 3 demand allegedly 5 million units below expected level

I want one for VR chat. Definitely a place I want to experience.

amio, w Todd Howard says Starfield was 'made to be played for a long time,' but a month after launch I'm already drifting away

Oh no, I'm out of popcorn.

Renacles, w Todd Howard says Starfield was 'made to be played for a long time,' but a month after launch I'm already drifting away

How about we stop posting every clickbait article we find? This literally says nothing.

Kidplayer_666, w Over 6,100 gaming jobs have been cut in 2023 (so far)

This is semi good news. While obviously it ain’t great that people lost their jobs, there’s a good change a few of them will be like “now that I have a few months of pay, how bout I try creating that cool idea I had a while ago?”

InfiniteLoop,

i dunno how many actually got severance - i know i read the recent sony studio layoffs didn’t pay severance which is … worrying to put it lightly

Pons_Aelius,

I know I shouldn't be surprised with US labour practises but how they fuck is a company allowed to not pay severance when doing layoffs?

InfiniteLoop,

i wish i knew. i can tell you when i was laid off (in software), i was given an nda and non-disparagement contract that my severance was contingent upon so based on that experience, these companies consider severance a “gift”

edit: i think it also (duh) depends on the state - many states are “employment at will”, and i would guess in those states since they can dismiss you without cause (save for discrimination), you aren’t required to pay severance. most companies still do, but i imagine the requirement wouldn’t mesh with the concept of at will employment

Slightly cryptic headline, I was able to get the gist of it when I saw the page is called “open critic”.

tdawg, w Meta Quest 3 demand allegedly 5 million units below expected level

History is filled with inventions too early for their time… Still kinda weird VR seems to have shown up like 6 times now and never sticks tho

mordack550,

I have the quest 2 and imho VR has 2 problems:

  • a lot of people suffers from motion sickness, and that totally ruins the experience
  • most of the software is unispired shit or just bad games. I’ve tried a parkour game for example (don’t remember the name) and it was absolutely crap, it was impossible to do what you wanted, because controls just didn’t work how they should
NuPNuA,

It seems like it’s sticking around this time, but will take a few more gens to become a mainstream product with appeal to people beyond tech nerds.

The problem with previous vr is that the compent parts weren’t ready to combine into a good experience. Computers couldn’t produce realistic enough graphics at the 90+FPS needed for smooth gameplay, screens didn’t have the resolution and colour depth to recreate the real world, the processing units made the headsets huge and bulky.

This time it started at a decent base experience and has been getting better since, a few more gens for it to become easy and quick to use and it will pick right up.
