DeathbringerThoctar, do games w DOOM creator keen on "ethical" uses for AI, but worried about AAA-style "homogenisation"

I’m 1000% behind an Anachronox reboot or sequel. The cliffhanger at the end of the original game is one of the largest unanswered questions of my childhood.

Mini_Moonpie,

Thank you for naming the game in the screenshot.

More of the same? Awesome, can’t wait!

Some people were annoyed by the pawns, but personally I loved them. Their chatter can get repetitive at times, but there’s also a lot of detail and subtlety that’s easy to miss. Each pawn gains knowledge of different enemies, quests, and areas as they interact with them, and what they say depends on how well they know the subject they’re talking about. If they know nothing, they will react with surprise or curiosity, otherwise they will offer advice of varying helpfulness. One time I encountered a cockatrice, and my pawns started yelling to watch out for the griffin. At first I thought it was a bug, but after the fight I realized they had some knowledge of these bird-like enemy types but not enough, and as a result they confused one for the other. Now that’s what I call attention to detail!

conciselyverbose,

That actually sounds really awesome.

I never quite got into it, because it was just too old mechanically by the time I heard of it, but it did feel like there was potential.

I’m honestly at a loss about how it’s “mechanically old” and how it could possibly be updated. It’s been a few years since I last played it, but I thought it was basically perfect and even did some things few if any other games do, such as the whole grappling/climbing system.

conciselyverbose,

Even the basics of movement and combat are super janky. It's very obviously a very old game.

They’re masterworks all, you can’t go wrong.

Psythik, (edited ) do games w Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty review: perhaps the best expansion pack ever made

If I don’t like the main story cause it’s too confusing (and boring), will I like this expansion, or is it more of the same?

I can’t play more than 30 minutes of this game at a time without getting bored, but I already bought it so I’m determined to get my money’s worth.

forgotaboutlaye, do games w Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty review: perhaps the best expansion pack ever made

I’ve been playing only RPGs the past few months with BG3 and Starfield, so I’m not in a rush to play Phantom Liberty right away. Looking forward to trying the free 2.0 patch today and will probably do a vanilla playthrough before I think about getting the expansion.

Either way, looking forward to PC coverage coming out.

Blizzard,

CDPR said it’s best to start a new game with the expansion.

conciselyverbose,

I think they were specifically referring to the "2.0" because it entirely overhauls the systems. They suggest restarting so your progression feels natural and you can decide how to allocate skills as you learn them.

I didn't see anything saying the actual expansion benefitted from starting over. I was under the impression that it's a mid/late game area/missions.

im going to respec a saved game a few times just to see how some of the abilities function. like air jump. then use that to plan out a build and then restart

Psythik,

How are you enjoying Starfield so far? I somehow managed to play for over 30 hours before I realized that the story isn’t very engaging and that I’m not having any fun. The only entertainment I’m getting is from looting a bunch of junk I’ll never use, but I can do that in literally any Bethesda game. Just curious what you think.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

no who you were asking but I don't want to progress from where Im at without making a based and the base construction thing sorta deflates my enthusiasm to play.

forgotaboutlaye,

It’s a Bethesda game through and through. You probably know that already if you’ve checked out the reviews, but if you liked Skyrim or FO4, and you can stomach the loadscreens, you know what you’re getting. Personally, I hoped for more but even what’s delivered has been worth it for me. The main story drags a bit in the collection of the artifacts, but seems to be picking up. Outside of that, there’s plenty of entertaining distractions.

So too do far too many other games.

Usually because they want to sell you cosmetics and other junk and the only way to ensure you don’t just mod it in for free is to make the game phone home and verify itself constantly.

Whatever, PAYDAY 2 was already going to be the better game at launch, might as well make it the only one worth playing at all.

Well, fuck you and your shitty game then. Wasn’t interested in the first place, but this kills any possibility of that ever changing.

Sina, do gaming w Publisher reveals and immediately cancels new Postal game after fans accuse it of using AI generation

It’s pretty much guaranteed that many AAA games out over the past 2 years had AI generated elements. Though finding these is not plausible. Telling about separate grass or tile textures if they are AI generated or taken from the asset store, or god forgive Ai generated assets taken from the asset store is basically impossible.

Alternatively imagine if an artist draws a concept art of an in game item & then uses image generation for creating the actual game assets. How will anyone find out?

AI witch hunt strikes again

Son_of_Macha,

Wrong terminology, a witch-hunt is a bad thing, this is just public opinion being against the job stealing ip copying tech bs.

chicken,

the developers write that “our studio was mistakenly accused of using AI-generated art in our games, and every attempt to clarify our work only escalated the situation”. They say they’ve received a lot of insults and threats as a consequence.

This is a bad thing.

Kolanaki, do gaming w Why are there so many bloody roguelikes or roguelites, and what really makes a game roguish?
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

What makes a game roguish?

  • Random level design
  • Death is permanent
  • Turn based gameplay
  • Grid based movement

Most modern roguelikes tend to only have the first two of these, tho. But those are the 4 main elements of the original game for which the genre derives its own, Rogue.

And Rogue-lites tend to make progression persist after death, at least partially. Such as with the unlockable weapons and things in Hades, while the boons and other abilities are pick ups you only have until death untill you pick them up again the next run.

HubertManne, do gaming w Why are there so many bloody roguelikes or roguelites, and what really makes a game roguish?

Its sorta funny hearing the term for me because I can’t away from thinking about ascii dungeon crawls when I hear roguelike.
