Shattered Pixel Dungeon. Run though randomly generated dungeon floors. Every 5th floor, fight a boss. I suck at it, so I’ve only gotten past the 2nd boss once, but that’s because I suck. Currently 5 different classes with a 6th in development (unless I’m wrong and it’s already out), each playing differently for the most part. You’ve got a warrior, rogue, huntress, mage, and duelist, with all but warrior being locked until you do easy enough requirements to unlock them for subsequent runs.
Can pause, exit, and come back to a run whenever during a run.

SuperTuxKart. Cart racer with a lot of fan made content like maps and carts. Has varying difficulties, but the lower the difficulty the lower the max speed in a race, if that matters to anyone else besides me. Not exactly full-on single-player since there is the option of online play, either against friends or random players if you find an open lobby.
Can pause pretty much any time offline but backing out makes you have to restart a race from the beginning. Same thing applies to the multi-race cup things.
The kinds of people that claim “wokism” in games tend to also not actually play the games they’re bitching about, so they don’t actually know what to expect.
Awhile ago my partner and I discovered there’s a combined work “Woke Advisory List” of videogames compiled by these backwards grognards. It roughly places games into categories of “Do not play, tis too woke” and “mild Trigger warning - has woke elements”
There is no small matter of quality of game that seems to influence which category the game is put in. Generally blah games with like a non sexy female protagonist and a single gay person randomly existing as a character you optionally meet might classify as “Holy shit! Too woke too WOKE!”… But then LIFE IS STRANGE is only categorized with the mildest of warnings of “some gay themes”… Like bro… “some” ?
It is equal parts hilarious and disheartening to go through and look at all the shit they decry as woke collated in one place and to recognize what counts as “exceptions” because they cannot bring themselves to cast games they love onto the burn pile.
It’s not just that they don’t want to put games they love into the pile. Their whole idiology is based on woke games failing. If a game is successful and “woke” then their idiology must be wrong. They will never admit to this being the case, so instead the game must not be that “woke” after all.
My thought was that Geralt and Ciri’s stories were over or decided, and I’m disappointed they didn’t find a way to do a Witcher story either in the future or past that enabled you to pick your own gender, appearance, Witcher school, or whatever else, maybe with creative use of the trial of the grasses or something.
I’ll happily play as Ciri to revisit the universe and maybe some familiar characters, but I just wish they’d done something newer or more original.
Jumping off Vampire Survivor I highly recommend Halls of Torment! Similar vibe, easier, very satisfying. The aesthetic is very similar to Diablo 1 but with vampire survivor gameplay. I’m in love with it
I didn’t check out what the news about it was but they announced at least half a decade ago that Geralt’s story was over and if they’re creating another Witcher game, it’s going to be Ciri
So I’m gonna take a wild guess and say that Cirilla, daughter of the emperor, the girl with elder blood, groomed by the Witchers to become one of them… MIGHT just be the next protagonist.
And I’m all for it. She’s the future, Geralt is the past. I love Geralt, but he’s so old and broken by the end of 3, it’s not even funny anymore. They could do prequel games with him or something, but not a sequel to 3 at this point.
It might be related to the recently announced move to make Ubisoft Connect completely optional for Steam games.
I’m just speculating since they only mentioned it in regards to The Rogue Prince of Persia (bottom of the page) but they might roll out it to everything else as well? Maybe? Possibly.
If they do remove Ubisoft Connect, I really hope the cloud saves on Steam get supported. Ubisoft Connects implementation of Cloud Saves are so buggy for me
Games were better before achievements. Admit it, you’ve played a game in way that you actively don’t enjoy or long after you’ve lost interest, just to pop some worthless achievement.
I understand a few studios take the time to make achievements humorous or worthwhile to the actual game your playing, but that’s just another reminder that most studios don’t.
Considering Ubisoft is struggling to stay relevant after saying players should feel comfortable with not owning games anymore, poor sales with Star Wars: Outlaws, and the controversy over their upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows game, I’m sure they’re doing everything they can to draw people back to their games right now. Achievements bring some replayability to their old titles.
That’s what I was thinking too. As much as I’m happy about this, I feel like it’s definitely an attempt to pull players back to their old games.
At least my Achievements will sync with Ubisoft’s. Knowing Ubisoft I wouldn’t have been surprised if you had to start over just to get the achievements on steam just so they can get play counts up
I haven’t seen a single complaint about Ciri being the protagonist of the next witcher game andI believe it’s because she isn’t a “let’s put a woman here for the quotas” type of character.
Is it here, or on the internet as a whole? I have already seen a TON of vitriol in the trailer’s comments on YouTube. They’re loudly skreeeing woke, and DEI, and even the less insane ones are “so disappointed in CDPR.”
