Solemarc, do games w Upscaling is actually good (as an option)

I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone say that upscaling OPTIONS are bad but I’m worried about games like monster hunter where upscaling and frame gen is used to make the game playable in most cases.

MoreFPSmorebetter, do games w What are some old games that are hard to revisit, because a more modern and superior version exists?

Pretty much all the racing games from my childhood. I remember them having super realistic grip and aerodynamics, but playing them again compared to even sorta SIM modern racing games today is just night and day.

I will blame my 1000+ hours in beamNG for some of that. Once you have seen super detailed soft body physics it’s hard to play anything that doesn’t have it. Wreckfest 1 had a decent hybrid soft/ridged system that worked for that game. Seems the second game that just dropped on early access improves on it some, but I’m gonna wait for the full release before I pull the trigger on that one.

Nothing better than finding a good community server but sadly not always possible nowadays.

lordnikon,

Yeah I still remember team fortress classic servers I would go back to all the time. It was nice to go into a server where everyone knew your name. It was like being a regular at a restaurant or bar.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I have fond memories of TFC and TF2 too. Good community server and civilised people using their microphone are the dream.

lordnikon,

Yep i also ran my own server with a the sniper war mod. If you wanted to play that mod my server was only a handful servers setup to play it. We had a good group Randos would come in and the ones that stuck around became mods and any changes to the server. We held a vote with the regulars and the mods and myself. There were times I was even out voted and we implemented stuff I didn’t agree with.

I swear, some of the best titanfall 2 matches I ever played were on northstar cusrom servers.

caut_R,

The last time I had something like that was when BF3 was still the most revent entry in the franchise. I knew how the game would go by looking at which side had more names that I recognized lol, good times

PieMePlenty, do games w Half Life: Alyx is Five Years Old Today

It wasn’t “my” Half Life but it was a damn good one. It felt true to the series and that brought a tear to my eye. The writing, the environments, the soundtrack all felt very Half Life without compromise. I didn’t like that it was a VR title but I understood why they went that route. In 2D, it would probably lack in depth (in more ways than one).

I borrowed a VR set from a friend to play it and bought the game at 60% off, which it frequently drops to. I’d urge anyone who has a VR capable PC to try and play it some way but VR is always going to restrict access to this. I’ll probably play through it in 2d Mode (via mod) some day in the future to try and relive it. And if non-VR is the only way you get to experience it, at minimum, use headphones… and dont go online saying it sucks after because, remember, it was made for VR.

There’s just something magical about it, i’m not sure what but modern minecraft (while great in it’s own respect, at least for me) is definitely missing it. I heard there’s a modpack that helps bring back some of the magic but i’m not sure what

I have some nostalgia for the port, tho it was a pretty good port of the game, with the 4j spins added to the game! Stuff like minigames, console exclusive hud, strange mechanics not present in any other version of the game and god damn the tutorials, the tutorial world were the best!

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

I love the tutorial worlds. Back before i owned the full game me and my sister would play splitscreen on the 1 hour trial of the Xbox 360 edition and try to milk the tutorial world for all we could, so i have really fond memories of it.

If this is a long term thing, you might consider a left handed gaming mouse with programmable side keys.

I hate to recommend Razer cuz their build quality has taken an absolute nose dive, but the only one I know of is the Razer Naga: www.razer.com/gaming-mice/…/rz01-03410100-r3m1

Setting some of the side keys as WASD and the usual surrounding support keys (Q, E, R F, G, X, C) and you can play almost any game one-handed.

The learning curve to get your brain to accept mouse movement and clicks with your left hand is annoying as fuck though.

Rai,

I have a couple Nagas and they’re excellent!

Good to hear.

I’ve had 4 - the 1st was around 2012 I think, and it was fucking amazing.

The second was around 2016, and even before plugging it in, it felt cheap. Actually using it, problems started popping up like measles in a red state - one of the side buttons stopped working, scroll wheel was janky.

The 3rd was around 2016, after exchanging the second via RMA. The L-click button was super fucked up right out of the box - it’d do this annoying thing where you push it down once, and like multiple clicks would register (the internet called it the ‘double click issue’ but was was WAY more than double… happened when I was using some art software and I’d have to ctrl+z like 10 times to clear all the actions it registered from a single click).

4th was around 2016, after exchanging the third via RMA >_< it made it a couple weeks without incident, but just when I thought I was in the clear, the cursor started jumping upwards a shit-ton randomly, which was hell trying to click-and-drag on anything. Then the internal LEDs went out (oh well, don’t really care if it’s pretty, but did like being able to see it in the dark). Then the double click thing started again.

Dealt with that for a while cuz I couldn’t afford to replace it and was tired of dealing with Razer’s customer service.

Then I joined the Air Force and didn’t have any time at all to game, so kinda fall out of the scene for a bit.

Separated around 2020, got myself a Corsair Scimitar, and lived happily ever after. Doesn’t come in lefty though. :-/

Infinite is no perfect game, but to me it felt like a great foundation for a game. I liked the open world aspect a lot, but it needed at least double the content in my opinion.

Stalinwolf,
@Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca avatar

I remember at least liking it a fair bit because it played a lot like Halo 1. I was a huge fan of the original and never cared as much for the sequels. I remember all of my friends got really into ODST, and I hated the direction it had taken the gameplay. So when Reach came out and felt comfortable in my hands again, I was stoked.

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

Definitely. For a base, it’s amazing. It needs some balancing imo, and like you said, some more content. My friend I play with was commenting that he wishes there were more biomes, which is definitely something I agree with. The generic “grassy hills” thing definitely gets boring to look at after a bit.

moncharleskey,

Yeah, that would have been great to have a tundra and jungle biome. Spawning patrol groups would have been cool, and having to defend FOBs periodically from attack or risk losing them. Ah, what could have been.
