One analog stick? That just looks weird with that layout.

I never got fully used to the trackpads, but the Steam controller is still the only controller I’ve ever owned where the back paddles didnt break/become unresponsive after enough use. Big fan.

Still got mine and use it. I bought mine very early on, and ran into an issue I’ve long since forgotten. I let Valve know and they comped me their entire Valve library, and the issue got sorted later.

An incredibly cool controller, I love the hell out of it.

It was a good 5+ hour learning curve, but I now swear by it for all Souls games (except DS remastered, since you can’t use joystick + mouse movement at the same time). In Elden Ring: Jump and dodge on the grips, holding LB engages gyro for aiming with the bow, and touch instead of click left trackpad for dpad input. Being able to swing the camera around instantly, or just being able to maneuver it while sprinting is so nice. Customizing the guide chords is great too: Guide+X = save OBS replay, Guide+Y = turn off controller, Guide+A = toggle MangoHud, etc.

Although, I’d probably trade the left trackpad for an actual dpad, though it is nice for typing if i ever need it. It’s a shame they removed “require clicks” for navigation in the new Big Picture mode. I also wish the LB/RB weren’t so clicky and loud. Maybe there’s a DIY mod for that.

Sadly I didn’t like the steam deck for Souls games. Maybe it’s because the trackpad is too far down and just feels more awkward to use. Steam controller just fits so nice.

EDIT: forgot to mention that I use Guide+right trackpad to simulate right analog stick, since in Elden Ring you need it for zooming the map or adjusting the camera angle during dialogue or character creation.

dualpad,

I personally love the left touchpad for movement. When the game lets you set a sprint hold over a sprint toggle I love to set an outer ring bind for it at the edge to go in and other of sprint without clicking. And I like setting up stuff like dash, crouch, slide on a touchpad click. Frees up buttons for me to be able to bind other stuff to.

I got more use out of the Steam Link mine came with than I did the controller.

kcweller, do games w So is Kingdom Hearts 3 _bad_ or just the normal cringe of Kingdom Hearts?

3’s my least favorite numbered entry in the series, but the post-game of re:mind is pretty damn good.

I didn’t like how empty the world’s felt. Even though there’s barely any npc’s in 1, it felt the most alive. 2 was just corridors, but my god the combat feels good. 3 is an attempt to make the world’s bigger, ending up empty, and the combat is meh for the most part.

I'm working on Diablo 4 Season 9. I wasn't hearing great things about this season at first, so I held off for a few days until some patches came out, but I have to admit, I'm kind of having fun so far. I have an actual reason to do nightmare dungeons again, and personally, I kinda like the reliquary cosmetics this time around. I'm going with a Druid build, which is a class I honestly haven't touched since season 1, and it's not too bad so far.

I’ve recently bought a Steam Deck and have been getting back into gaming after a long hiatus.

I used to play competitive online games (mostly Counter-Strike) and got kinda burnt out on them. It made me not want to game for a while, so I’m diving into slower-paced, single-player games.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1382070/Viewfinder/ and https://store.steampowered.com/app/1049410/Superliminal/ are both perspective-based puzzle games that I’ve been really enjoying. Tickles my brain in kind of the same way the Portal games did on my first playthroughs.

Speaking of Portal, I’ve also started https://store.steampowered.com/app/601360/Portal_Revolution/ which is a fan-made mod whose story takes place between the two official games. For what it is, it’s honestly quite excellent, the puzzles are challenging and fun. Not quite as well-polished as Portal 2, but so far it’s giving the first game a run for its money.

I’ve also been emulating a ton of Mario Kart 8, trying to git gud, my friend group often breaks it out at get-togethers and I want to surprise them with my sudden increase in skill!

EDIT: I forgot, I’ve also been playing https://store.steampowered.com/app/1332010/Stray/ which is honestly such a chill game, you play as a stray cat in this kinda post-apocalyptic world, which you slowly uncover more info about as you hop around. 10/10 so far, might become a catgirl.

Instead of buying a license for a game for $70 you subscribe to a rental service that gives you access to 500 games for $10/month.

Or, instead of buying a $500 console or a $800 PC you just buy a $60 controller and you stream those games running on “the cloud” (=someone else’s console) for $15/month

Problem is that the service is provided by Microsoft at a loss and when they’ll get enough critical mass, they’ll enshittify it.

The economic proposition is good, but I think it’s just to teach gamers that “you’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy”

I don’t really have a reason that I haven’t, but I keep thinking about it more and more. Especially after seeing Bobby Lee interview the creator. That was pretty cool

_Lory98_, do gaming w Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of July 7th

I’m occasionally playing Fantasy Life i, but mostly played Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s DLC. I think I liked it more than the original game, although it could not exist without it.

I started Claire Obscur: Expedition 33. I really like the setting, presentation and aesthetics. I’m not entirely sold on the real-time defensive mechanics in combat, I think they remove more than they add, but I do really like how each character has their own unique gimmick, which is something that’s sorely lacking in JRPGs.
