endeavor, do gaming w Adult gamers of Lemmy how do you find time to game without being exhausted of the screen?

That’s the neat part: I don’t. I’ve played so many games I see most of them as minor changes from games I’ve played before. Most of them do not do anything interesting for me to invest my time in an experience I’ve already basically had. Very few games manage to feel different.

But if you are exhausted at the screen, touch grass. Playing video games may not be the vacation you think it is, you may need to go outside and spend more time doing things that are different from what you do most of the day: eg your work, your sleep and your main hobby. Go pick up hiking. If you find hiking boring, get a RC trail car and do rc hiking. If you really need that brainrot current popular fps vibes: go do hiking with toy guns: airsoft/paintball

lemonuri, do gaming w What's a good slow paced shooter game?

I can highly recommend War Of Rights. Multiplayer only American civil war fps.

You form a long line in a field with 20 odd men facing the enemy line. It takes around 25 seconds to reload your gun, while the enemy is firing at you.

“Gentlemen, take aim, steady, steadyyy, steadyyyyyy, FIRE!”

The whole team gets penalised if you die out of line or duck for cover.

This was also my first intro to city sims. The sound was a blast, the graphics fresh. Then SimCity 4 came out followed by Simtropolis and a thriving culture of modders and cityplanners in arms it was great.

Admetus,

It also had lots of fun facts to boot, including statistics about broccoli.

I played a lot of Simcity 2000 (it was the first game I played), so for me the visual, size and quality of life upgrades in Simcity 3000 were always impressive.

Blue Prince is monopolising a majority of my mental bandwidth currently as I’m growing increasingly obsessed with it. I’ve spent about 11 hours on it so far and have taken probably a dozen pages of notes in my little notebook next the to the PC.

I think this game could go down as a modern classic, and if it sticks the landing it will likely be my GOTY. It’s cheap too, and even 10% off right now as a release week sale.

I can’t really say anything more because, much like Outer Wilds, the less you know about it going in the better. If you even remotely enjoy mysteries and puzzles do yourself a favour and go play it like… right now.

Krauerking,

Same.

I’m now 15 hours in, my runs look nothing at all like my first ones, and are rapidly changing each new run but also still haven’t “beaten” it once.

Feels like I built a skyscraper and yet still have to get across the grand canyon to actually win and it has nothing to do with the skyscraper.

Except now I have foundation.

chloyster,

It’s so good isn’t it? Figured out some big brain puzzles yesterday and was blown away. Absolutely loving it

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

I’m loving it, but definitely also constantly second guessing whether I’m smart enough for this game haha. Especially when you come across a problem and can’t work out whether you’re supposed to wait for the clue/solution to turn up later or whether it’s something you’re supposed to be able to solve but are being too stupid to notice/connect.

How far in are you in terms of Days/time played. I’m at about 12 hours and 12 days played.

chloyster,

I think I’m at day 21 or 22. Made it to the antechamber for the first time yesterday. Not sure hours played atm

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

I could probably have made the antechamber last night if I had picked up a pair of dice I missed and found on the way back. But I’m kind of glad I didn’t as there is so much unexplored and unexplained still.

chloyster,

I will say the antechamber is just the beginning of the end game stuff. There’s a lot more to go after making it inside

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

I presumed as much based on clues and indicators I’ve been finding.

chloyster,

Just rolled credits! Really amazing. But there’s still sooooooooo much more

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

I just got

spoilerdown to the basement

and I’m shocked at how much there is. I thought I was going to get somewhere this run.

spoilerI look like I’m stuck, I assume the gear puzzle can’t be solved first time? I can’t figure out how to move the mine cart. And maybe drain the reservoir? Is this supposed to happen? It looks like there is another entrance from the Tomb (though I’ve never even seen a tomb when drafting!). Am I on to something? Am I not supposed to be able to get further this run?

chloyster,

small hintYeah I’ve also never seen a tomb while drafting, but there is one other entrance that the map shows. Have you found the pump room?

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

spoilerThe Fountain right? I assume it’s on the east side lawn, but I haven’t found any way to open a door to the outside on the east side. I’ve been through the Garage on the west side. I have found the pump room and drained as much of the reservoir as I could, but there is still a touch of water at the bottom preventing me from going down there and both tanks are full, as are all rooms. No idea how to empty the last bit. I thought it was opening the tap in the kitchen to drain the water, but that doesn’t seem to affect the water level…

chloyster,

another small fountain hintThe fountain isn’t where you think. And is much more accessible. Calling it a fountain is a bit much to be frank. If you were to drain it I think you would see what it’s referring to

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

spoilerDrained the fountain, now I need the basement key again. Still don’t know how to get the chests at the bottom of the reservoir as I don’t know how to drain the final bit. Maybe pump room needs to be next to boiler room to get the last tank in play? I’m starting to see I’m going to need to get through insane amounts of RNG to finish. I already basically concluded I probably need the boiler room adjacent to the lab to get the lever machine working.

I also am tearing my hair out about the

spoilerdrawing room safe code. The other safes had the clue in the same room but for the life of me I can’t figure out the paintings with the steps.

chloyster, (edited )

spoilerOh damn I haven’t unlocked any of the safes yet. I need to work on that. Also for the boiler it doesn’t have to be immediately next to what you’re trying to power. They just need to be connected by rooms that also have vents going through them. The passageway and the security room for instance are 2 I know that have them. Look out for rooms that have vents going through the top to each door

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

spoilerWait didn’t you roll credits? That’s very interesting that you did that without opening any safe…

Anyway thank you so much for your responses, they’ve been perfect hints without being too spoily, which is a hard thing to pull off! I might bug you again at some point, we’ll see what I accomplish today.

Actually, maybe we need a Blue Prince community…

chloyster,

Yeah it’s surprising how little you actually need to roll credits. Also no problem! Happy to help :)

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

Just rolled credits. Really strange actually haha. There are so many unsolved mysteries! I feel like I’m close to piecing together the narrative but I’m still missing crucial pieces.

chloyster,

Congrats! Yeah there’s sooooo much left to discover. Definitely try and make it back to room 46 again. There’s a lot in there to point you in new directions :)

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

Good lord there is so much still to do haha! Every time I think I’ve seen most of the puzzles a new secret bottom opens up to an entirely new layer. I’m loving putting together the narrative but my god some of the puzzles didn’t work for me (I had to look up a couple of hints - would *never have organically gotten them). How have you been progressing with the safes?

Played Splatoon 3. The different modes are really fun, except for Turf War which kinda sucks. It’s the first time I’m trying to learn how to play a team game and I’m confused on how to improve, but I’m having fun with it.

For some reason tho Nintendo thought it was a good idea to do two day events (“Splatfests”) periodically which lock you out of any mode beside Turf War for their entire duration, so I went looking for other competitive games:

I went back to Guilty Gear Strive after dropping it for more than a year, but after playing it for a few hours, I still don’t like how sluggish the game feels and I’m not too happy with the modern design trends in fighting games (or in general the curent state of them). The biggest issue that stops me from playing tho is the terrible online experience which still hasn’t been fixed after 4 years.

Damn! fucking sold ! Im going to buy it tonigh. I enjoyed a lot city skyline when it went out but i never played much of simcity 3000. I tried it as a kid in my friends house but i was more a caesar 2 and 3 kind of guy. I also didnt have money to buy game so it was more what people were willing to give me.

spizzat2,

The writeup mentions GoG, but I don’t see any mention of the fact that Sim City 2000, Sim City 3000, and Sim City 4 are all currently on sale. You can get all three for less than $10 out the door.

Man I love city building games and especially simcity 3000 because it’s my first game, but man I suck at them. I want to get better but don’t know how

Agent_Karyo,
@Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world avatar

Honestly, just try Simcity 3000 or Simcity 4 (some community mods are mandatory). Simcity 3000 is easier to start imo.

Just remember to watch spending and make sure to always have new zones (primarily industrial and residential) until you hit 1950 or so.

Start at the edge of the map with an industrial district that goes parallel to the edge of the map.

Plan ahead with your transport structures (leave a compact corridor for a railway line) and zone locations.

Initially focus on surplus budget and growth (i.e. surplus budget mostly spent on expansion), but try and invest into education so that by 1950 you have a more educated populace.

Have fun!

SuperSpecialNickname,

Thank you, I’ll try it out with education and public transport ❤️

ryathal,

Each game has their own little quirks and focuses. From what I remember sc3000 is best to start in a corner. You only get half the pollution from buildings on the edge, which is pretty big in the early game. You also get easier access to trade partners which is a good source of income later. Public transportation is also important, and very expensive, so you need to aggressively maintain a strong budget surplus to keep expanding.

There’s also some magic numbers to know as you get more familiar with the game. Airports, farms, ports, and subways all have sizes you need to keep in mind when planning.

SuperSpecialNickname,

Thank you I’ll try it ❤️

I’m surprised to not see the Sniper Elite games recommended here, if we’re talking single player. They’re definitely a bit formulaic by now, and story/dialogue is not worth paying attention to, but they’re slow, methodical, and a lot of fun!

There’s a bit of a Hitman vibe to the later ones, approaching objectives almost however you’d like, and they can absolutely get hectic if you find yourself in a compromising position.

snailboy,

I’d throw Sniper: Ghost Warrior in there too. (Different studio, similar generic title :P) They’re a bit like the Elite games but in first-person, and set in modern day/near future.

The spinoff games Sniper: Ghost Warrior: Contracts 1 and 2 are a bit more hitman style as well. (I got more into the Contracts games personally, as the story from the main series was kinda wack.) They’re shorter games overall but levels can get bloody difficult when your plans go inevitably wrong.

rayquetzalcoatl,
@rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world avatar

Oh I remember the original Sniper Ghost Warrior!! Fun game but I found it felt a little cack-handed, in my experience - altho it is plenty old now. What do the Contracts games feel like? I assume they’re much more modern?

snailboy,

Oh yeah, the Contracts games have decent game feel. Definitely not jank. They’ve been on CryEngine since Ghost Warrior 2, so they are modern enough I guess.

rayquetzalcoatl,
@rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve heard that Shadows is one of the better Assassin’s Creeds, but 100%-ing it still sounds like hell. There’s just too much to do in Ubisoft openworlds.

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

They’ve trimmed it down a lot thankfully. The 1000s of chests and Animus fragments are gone luckily, so it’s mostly just side quests and a few small collectibles. I’m still debating whether to count de-fogging the map as part of 100% though. I at the very least want to do 100% of Steam Achievements if I decide to move on

Really solid write up!

As much as I love SimCity 4, there’s something about the look and feel of 3000 that makes it slightly more iconic for me (both are fantastic though). Maxis really knocked it out of the park with most of the series.

I love this game except for the fact that it seems having the biggest city is the way to win when having the best quality of lifeand the least environnemental impact would be my way to win. But I guess it’s my green side😅

These games are what’s making me look at PC gaming instead at just Playstation.

BossDj,

This was my first year playing controller games on my pc, and now I feel like the world is my oyster

yamper,

is there a city sim that prioritizes green cities and quality of life? the first cities skylines was shockingly america-centric with the city designs it let you build, even with the european devs.
