I want a new, modern Battle for Middle Earth 2 with better balance, modern graphics, and maybe different modes like quick vs longer form games. Definitely some reform like making it more difficult to build walls, but the walls stand up better to infantry and you really need siege engines.

The game was not balanced competitively (men so OP) but holy damn the battles felt epic and building your own forts and castles to defend was amazing.

Here’s a full list of crossplay Xbox and PC games. I figure if it’s on the pc, there’s a good chance it could be played on the steam deck as well.

Notable mentions in there that I’ve played and enjoyed are Destiny 2, Overwatch 2, Remnant 2, Left4Dead 2, (I’m seeing a pattern here), and Deep Rock Galactic.

Thanks mate, appreciated. Yeah I also seen a recurrent pattern in peoples’ suggestions, just what I was hoping for when I posted the question!

Portal 2 is only two player, but it’s my favorite game and it has a co-op mode with puzzles that require both people.

The most shocking to me, is that those servers are still up and running. In a day and age of dead games, it’s a serious feat.

Brumefey,

Yes that’s crazy. The game has the Electronic Arts label and the servers are still operational. It’s not exactly the same servers but some people invested time and money into migrating the data without any guarantee that the player would login ever again.

The Guardian in the back has that look on her face like she just lost a bet that you wouldn’t return until 20 years passed.

Brumefey,

And given that she is in the middle of the Shrouded Isle extension map, next visit will probably be in a few years. I bet she will still be exactly the same, unaffected by the time going on.

Seriously though, I never got near those numbers. I did put about 2500 hours into TFC and TF2 before it became a bot hellscape.

lolrightythen,

Maybe 2500 on 2 accounts that were both my gf and I on rocket league. Usually on the same team. Over several years in our 30s.

Maybe hit 1000 on worms2demo online as a kid.

Respect

Brumefey,

At some point you don’t play the game because you enjoy some relaxing time on it, but because you have to. That’s were I put my limit, now. No fun, stop playing.

iii, do gaming w What type of game do you want to see?

3D minesweeper

mtlvmpr,

Like a sim game or Planet Sweeper?

iii,

Nah, just minesweeper. But instead of north south east west, there’s also behind and in front. And all the corners.

Crotaro,

I haven’t played it yet, but if you have a VR headset then Minesweeper Peak VR seems to be exactly what you’re looking for.

There’s also Mine3D which plays in your browser and is a rotatable cube of mines.

underscores, (edited )

There’s Mines3D on android, although the graphics are still 2d and it’s a pain to play.

vvv, do gaming w What type of game do you want to see?

check out Supreme Commander, it’s a game from the erra of good RTSes, and I think has some of the features you’re taking about, e.g. beforehand of multiple bases, automation… you can do things like produce x units, send them to this area, have them start doing this patrol, etc. You can pause the game, to make these orders too. My favorite gimmick though, is that the map is zoomable, from a classic here’s your dudes and tanks view, up into a strategic view with icons representing everything. This also opens up the ability to have units be different sizes. vehicles are appropriately larger than infantry, and you can have giant mechs to which other units are literally ants.

Dymonika,

SupCom will never displace TA.

nutcase2690, do gaming w What type of game do you want to see?

Check out mindustry! Although it doesn’t quite have that tactical itch as Arma, it is 100% based around logistics and building up unit production. There is a multiplayer PvP mode, as well as 2 PvE campaigns

GammaGames, (edited ) do gaming w What type of game do you want to see?

I want a VR shooter that actually uses the tech interestingly. Give me sections of Zero G with full 6dof. Give me quirky weapons with panels you slide open when they overheat and barrels that twist to change firing mode. Give me abilities that I could only use with a virtual pair of hands, like slingshotting grenades without dropping my primary or reaching into things to grab loot. And make the gunplay feel like Pavlov because it’s the best.

Easy enough, right? 😅

Edit: also use eye tracking to make the horror better

DdCno1,

use eye tracking to make the horror better

Imagine a VR game with monsters that always stay in your periphery.

GammaGames,

Exactly! Creatures that peek around corners and slide back away when you look toward them, monsters that follow your eyesight to dodge attacks, etc.

It could be great!!

Civ 5 was great for this. Me and another old fart in our 40s played it against each other.

Strategy games are great for busy adults imo. I like either Civilization or Factorio because you can compete or collaborate as desired, and in as much or as little time as you want.

One brother is on an Xbox One is on a PC One is on a steam deck with WiFi hotspot.

That’s going to be the limiting factor.

Are you specifically looking for something to play against each other? There’s some pretty good options for co-op games with crossplay, and that might make for a more friendly experience, but if you’re in the mood for something competitive, options are a little more limited.

Some potential options:

  • Destiny 2
  • Monster Hunter Rise
  • The Ascent
  • Borderlands 3
  • Warframe
  • Remnant 2

If you all had a PC, you’d have a lot more options. Maybe two of you should consider going in on a Steam Deck for Brother #3 for Christmas!

Regrettable_incident,
@Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world avatar

It doesn’t have to be against each other, but I think at least to start we wouldn’t want to play with other randoms cos we’re all pretty amateur level.

Yeah we’ve been trying to find something but like you say the platforms seem to be a problem for most things

vk6flab,
@vk6flab@lemmy.radio avatar

I am not privy to your financial situation, but can you three pool your resources and find a common platform?

Regrettable_incident,
@Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world avatar

Tbh not really. I’m the only one who’s at all flexible - I can do steam deck or old laptop (3050). But electricity is an issue for me, I’m not on mains electric just solar & batteries, and the steam deck is much less power hungry. Both my brothers have kids and homes to pay for. We’re not broke but can’t really upgrade tech without having to budget. We were hoping to find something that’ll work for us all.

vk6flab,
@vk6flab@lemmy.radio avatar

To enjoy yourselves doesn’t require that you all buy the latest gaming rig or even something new or identical. As long as what you decide on has games in common, you’re good.
