Kinda figured it would be some bullshit when they were already taking a poll on whether people would be interested in another MGS getting the same treatment, only weeks after just announcing this collection. At least the sentiment was most “Hold your horses and finish this one first, then we’ll talk.”
The price doesn’t turn me off. But I’m very happy with my Steam Deck OLED. If Nintendo ever releases an OLED version, I’ll consider it for the Nintendo exclusives, but right now there isn’t a compelling reason. I barely pick up my Switch 1 anymore.
I like my regular Switch (because it’s jailbroken and I haven’t ever paid Nintendo for any game on it) but I see no reason to ever get a Switch 2 when the Steam Deck exists.
The song is mine. I wrote it with June, I sing it, I created the melody, I recorded my vocals in my studio, and they do not own it.
That’s not enough to “own” a peace of copyrighted material or work. This depends on the license and contract. Note, I am not arguing against his opinion that this work is his own, I just argue that the given reasoning can be not enough (depending on the situation). He claims to be the owner and to get paid, but WE as the reader who don’t have all details don’t know if that is really his right (to get the money). From the outside it looks like another victim of capitalism. But really, without all the details, I would not automatically empathize based on claims. I wish him good luck, if there are no bad intentions behind it.
I personally don’t think that “Copyright” itself is bad idea. In example without Copyright, we could not have Open Source rights like the GPL. However I acknowledge that there are negative effects of the Copyright system and companies and lot of people misuse it to make money or to hurt.
in a perfect (communist) world, we wouldn’t need copyright because everyone would have their needs provided for, so anyone can use anyone else’s art because it doesn’t meaningfully hurt anyone.
The problem with such a world is, that innovations would be hurt, because there is less incentive to be the next incredible invention. Either to make money or to get fame. It’s never a simple solution, there are always caveats and side-effects.
So does humans with copyright and capitalism, even more so, with more competition and incentive to make money or get fame. Let’s say without Copyright 10 people do art for fun, take ages and quality does not matter. Its all fun yes, maybe 1 of them is talented. Add Copyright and incentive to earn money, suddenly you have 100 competing for money, try to make the best it can and earn it.
Copyright is not all about making money either. Without it, someone could “steal” your open programming code and then do modifications and sell it for anyone who desperately needs it. In example to hospitals. And because there is no rights and licenses to “own”, the GPL can’t be in effect and protect the Open Source of it.
Didn’t upvote or downvote you, but just voicing my disdain for that stupid ass slogan because “master race” has always been associated with Nazi beliefs, and I don’t think making it cute or trying to take it back is something that should really even be considered. Let it die.
As a Linux gamer the idea of unauthorized software is absolutely absurd. Also spending billions on “security” to make sure only approved games are played then approving slop.
I’m really curious how the rumored price increases on games will change the entire market (if any). Currently, I have no plans on getting a switch 2 until either a must-have exclusive pops up or until there’s some price drops. I just don’t see how they can expect the average family to be able to afford the new games.
Then, on top of this, slap tarrifs on for Americans and oof I feel for you all right now. It’s… unprecedented territory we’re in right now. I hope things stabilize soon
If the price never drops and a “must have exclusive” arrives you would purchase one? Why would you let that change your principle on the matter? It’s just a game, probably overly priced too. Vote with your money. Let Nintendo know that it is too expensive for the average family.
If the price on games is actually what people are saying it’s going to be? And it never drops? Nah I wouldn’t buy. I agree it feels…disrespectful to their fans.
It would have to be the best animal crossing or zelda game in the past 20 years. And I would have to ensure I’m getting it for cheaper in some way, shape, or form.
I certainly wouldn’t be buying it directly for full price. Likely used or something. I don’t have the money to justify that kind of purchase. The console price I can kind of understand, but the games seems ridiculous. I have a backlog of titles to play, and I only buy when I can get a sale or a discount. Heck, the rpg’s I haven’t gotten around to on the switch 1 would probably last me 5 years alone lol
If I had to guess, I bet they’ll reduce the cost of the console within a year.
They might decide against charging so much for their games? That might be less likely but they haven’t confirmed the game prices yet
We’ll have to see if the general consumer is willing to pay full price. It seems likely as people generally just go along with things. If so then Nintendo will definitely keep prices high
I can tell you the general consumers are children’s parents and die-hard fans. It’s gonna sell well and end up the new normal. Prices don’t even drop on Nintendo exclusives you have to wait for weird Costco or whatever store deals.
All while they pay for subscriptions too. It’s wild. Not to be so pessimistic but I see piracy getting getting more and more regulated.
My brother-in-law got a Switch for his kid. They tried to play the “free” classic emulated games but then it stopped him and said he had to create some online account which costs money. That’s some scummy tactics to get you to pay a subscription for a “free” game
