Hell yeah. Xfire, Counter Strike Source, and Toonami made up the bulk of my childhood. I hardly hear it talked about anymore

@ArmoredCavalry@lemmy.world avatar

The only reason it came up again for me was I noticed it in some old computer files, ha! Used to be my most used application by far.

Did you pronounce it X-fire or Crossfire?

Dran_Arcana,

X fire, but in my defense I was eleven

English is my 2nd language, so I always read it as “X” Fire. That;s funny, I never though about it.

    Puzzle_Sluts_4Ever,

A lot of, generally Japanese, media uses “x” as shorthand for “cross”

A friend always called it “christfire” because it pissed EVERYONE off

Let them know I'm taking that for my new band name.

I remember in Paper Mario: TTYD one of the late game tattle entries on a X-naut enemy clarifies that its pronounced "cross"-nauts. This game had me mispronouncing the villain team's name the entire time until the end.

    full_on_rapist,

Hence the cross button on PS controllers.

    secret301,

X usually stands for cross. Some road sign will say train xing or deer xing

    squaresinger,

Sometimes X is also used to abbreviate Crossmas.

    NAM,

    Christfire would’ve gone hard.

    Duke_Nukem_1990,

More recently X also represents a heap of shit.

    thrasherv3,

I never even considered it might be pronounced crossfire…I am stupid.

    AngryAnusHornets,

    Same here…

    tifa0080,

I think I remember an official statement saying “X-Fire” was correct, and “crossfire” was wrong.

    HotboxedSubmersible,
    SilverFlame,

I dont even need to watch this video, I can hear the thumbnail. Don’t get caught in the CROSSFIREEEE!

I actually convinced my parents to buy this for me, played it once.

    HotboxedSubmersible,

I cannot read the word crossfire without that song latching onto my brain.

    SilverFlame,

The commercial is a masterpiece of 90’s child-centric advertising

    MrGerrit,

Do you call the button on a controller X or cross?

    ChicoSuave,

I could be wrong but I call it the D pad

    MrGerrit,
    TheIllustrativeMan,

“Ex-fire”. “Crossfire” was an AMD thing.

“Stray Gods” is an incredibly beautiful game. I was turned off by the playstyle at first, but then I embraced it and got really invested in the characters and the story. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys Greek mythology and/or fantastic stories about interpersonal drama and enjoys games with tough dialogue choices.

The soundtrack also!!! It’s a musical game and the songs are all SO BEAUTIFUL. I teared up a few times.

No, seriously, this game is fcking huge, 12 hours in and I’m still on act 1

    PS5 preload too.

    TesterJ,

Yep! I believe console preload started yesterday or the day before. Steam just went live. So stoked we can all have it ready to go right at the release time.

As someone with rural internet (15mbps) being able to preload games is amazing.

    TesterJ,

I feel that. I had 1Mb/s DSL internet until I left for college in 2011. My download speeds were usually around 100KB/s, it was torture.
