nickwitha_k, do games w PS VR2 to add PC support in 2024

That’s a pretty unexpected surprise. If it provides Linux-compatible usage, I might get one afterall.

Corngood,

I hope they do this, even if it’s just as a fuck-you to Microsoft. As long as they don’t actively get in the way of it, I’m sure it’ll happen.

radix,
@radix@lemmy.world avatar

It’s Sony, so they’ll advertise Linux support, then pull it with a firmware update in 3-4 years.

DarkThoughts,

Is this supposed to refer to something specific?

newthrowaway20,

The PlayStation 3 had support to install other OS’s, namely Linux. But it was removed after About 4 years with a system update.

Aatube,
@Aatube@kbin.social avatar

Was that even advertised? I thought that was to claim a tax break or something

LemmyIsFantastic,

It was advertised and they lost a class action. I ended up with like $150 soccer I could prove my usage.

Pacmanlives,

Hey I got like 10 bucks from that class action lawsuit and no more Linux on my PS3

DarkThoughts,

Would be nice indeed. Cheaper than what a Deckard will likely be (almost certainly in the 4 digit range) and no Facebook garbage. Though the wording in the article is kinda weird and almost sounds like you still require a PS5.

refurbishedrefurbisher,

Probably. Sony provided upstream Linux with drivers for their controllers, and have been for a while now. The controllers arguably work better on Linux than they do on Windows without third party software/drivers.

cyberpunk007,

It’s not arguably imo. My ps controllers worked way better in Linux.

refurbishedrefurbisher,

I’m 70% sure that Sony just ported their drivers almost directly from Orbis (the PS4/5 OS) since Orbis is based on FreeBSD, which is POSIX-compliant. Windows is not POSIX-compliant, so they’d need to do more work porting it over.

YES

I only picked the psvr2 up for Gran Turismo, but if I can use it on PC racing games too, that’ll be the bees knees.

Radium,

Yeah, it would really expand what you can play. I have assetto corsa on PlayStation but never play it because it doesn’t support VR

june,

Exactly the same for me. There’s a great library of PCVR games that doesn’t exist in PS5 right now, and several are racing games that I want to play again. I’m thrilled to hear there’s PC support coming considering this is one of the best headsets you can buy right now.

cevn,

GT is soo good in VR. Wish they would bring it to PC but whatevs. My favorite car recently found is the Ferrari VGT, big future vibes and absurdly fast of course.

I can believe it, it’s pretty fun and relatively fair for f2p. The new 2.0 update is out tomorrow so it’s a good time to try it out.

Did they just forget to bring this game to the biggest platform where they stand to make the most money, or...?

Seems nice, as long as they don’t try to sell it for 80$ or more.

ratofkryll,

It’s $26.99 USD on Steam.

ekZepp,
@ekZepp@lemmy.world avatar

Not horrible. I’ll wait some sale.

Feels kind of weird to have a remaster coming long after a total remake. Granted, I don’t think they remade 2-3, just the first one - and it was for the sake of their small trilogy referencing events from the first game. (I think it went, Legend, then Anniversary (Remake), then Underworld, right?)

lloram239,

The original games are so old that it is quite messy to get them to run on PC these days and the remake changed the gameplay quite substantially. So this remaster is quite welcome and probably a lot cheaper to produce than a full 2 and 3 remake.

As for Anniversary, the story there is a bit weird, as Anniversary and Legend are basically completely independent games that have nothing much to do with each other other than the engine. Legend is a reboot and Anniversary is a remake. It’s only with Underworld that the the story of those two get wrangled together into a trilogy. Only the first game is taken into account there, all the other sequels of the original game are ignored.

If it goes well, can we expect a remaster of Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver series? They’re also owned by Crystal Dynamics and I recall them sending me a questionnaire asking about a possible revival

PreviouslyAmused,

Don’t…. don’t give me hope

I’m glad they were looking at Anniversary and Legends instead of the reboot by square enix for the modern version of controls, loved those games on PS2.

Very much looking forward to this. Pissed I have to buy it for a third time. Bought original for PC many moons ago. Then the same version on steam. Then the remastered version on steam. And will again be buying the re re re mastered version on steam.

Aspyr has done a great job porting a lot of the best Star Wars games to modern systems, including the Wii version of The Force Unleashed for Switch (my favourite version). I’m sure they’re handling this with care.

Marsupial,
@Marsupial@quokk.au avatar

Aren’t Aspyr garbage?

Last I remember is their janky arse port of Jade Empire and a unlaunchable KotoR.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I have played their ports of The Force Unleashed, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Episode I Racer and Republic Commando on PS4/Switch, all without any issues. Either KOTOR is an outlier or I got very lucky/have low standards.

520,

No, they aren't garbage.

Can't speak for their Jade Empire port but their KOTOR port is actually pretty good. Might be something wrong with your handset.

Their general output is pretty good.

trustnoone,

Don’t know why you’re being negged. They’re “okay” and I do understand why some are negative about them. Overall they’ve done okay with re-bringing back out old games.

But you’re right there’s been some issues with jank, and some anger due to how they dealt with KOTOR 2 DLC and purchases.

The kotor2 remake has also been removed from aspyr.

IMO I’d say wait and see, let the reviews come up, and see if it fits for you.

CallMeButtLove,

Can you elaborate on why the Wii to Switch version is your favorite? I played it on 360 back in the day and have it on Steam. I’m curious what the differences are.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve played both but the Wii version first, so that’s probably part of it. But it’s also because the PS3/360/PC version really showcases the physics engine while the Wii version naturally focuses on the motion controls. I just wasn’t very impressed with the physics-centric combat and found it to be more flash than substance, but I really liked how the motion controls were utilized for the lightsaber and force powers. Grabbing enemies with the force choke power and then using the nunchuk controller to toss them around felt especially satisfying.

I can hear the creak of the metal on the boat.

Hadriscus,

Holy shit I just heard it. You mean the Maria Doria in TRII ? grrrrrooouiiinnnggngkkk

sizzler,

I’ve heard it irl. Next to a large water pumping station. It is the occasional grind of a stone against the propeller I think.
