I never played this game back in the day, but in a world where it has voice acting and a PC port, this is the one I’ll likely try. I have no idea when that might be, since it’s already a struggle to keep up with game releases, but someday, for sure.

Ashtear,

I’ve got 1,000 hours in this one over the years and the PC port is the main reason I’m getting it (eventually). Hoping it’s not too locked-down for mods, FFT’s mod community has been a vibrant one.

wirelesswire,

FFT is hands-down my favorite Final Fantasy game. I’m busy with other stuff at the moment, but I definitely plan on getting this one eventually.

HeyJoe,

If it’s true to the original, I see no reason not to play the new one instead. As someone who played everything just by being able to grow up in the perfect time to experience it all, I can honestly say it’s hard at my age to go back sometimes without the quality of life updates. I just don’t have the time or care anymore to be able to, sadly.

It’s been about 20 years since the last time I picked it up, so I hope to play this one someday soon as well.

Stovetop,

I just hope that this version addresses the part of the game that people can potentially softlock themselves on by not being prepared enough.

Trying to avoid spoilers, but people who have played before will know what I’m talking about.

I really REALLY want a game where its like 40 vs 80, where the 40 have great tech, information and drone systems, but long respawn timers, vs 80 insurgent style players with cold war weapons, little to no armor, and litte information, but have fast respawns. And the game tries to keep weapons realistic rather than balanced.

I still have LoL balancing PTSD… 4 years clean BTW!

This describes Planetside 2 quite nicely.

Mmm, shoving magriders into places they shouldn’t go (like infantry fights) is kinda fun though.

Did you ever play the original? This makes me want to revisit it😭

I tried and just couldn’t get past the combat. It just wasn’t for me. I want to give it a try again though and see if maybe i can get it to click, because i really want to appreciate it the way the fan base does

SteakSneak,

Yeah I get you, turn based RPGs can be difficult to go back to. I think once you have a few hours sunk in it’s not so bad.

I’m playing two games at once this week, firstly I’m playing bits and pieces of Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword on my 3DS. It’s a really great game so far, super fun and surprisingly good at translating the mainline NG gameplay onto a handheld and using stylus input for controls. Might well end up one of my favourite DS/3DS games when I’m done with it. I’m about halfway through so far I think.

I’m also playing through Enotria: The Last Song on PC for the first time. So far I’m having a blast with it, after some initial information overload I’m finally starting to engage with the systems and am starting to really enjoy using the stances and elemental rock-paper-scissors. From what I’ve seen so far it does not really deserve its mixed steam reviews - yes, there is some jank and it’s plainly AA but there is a lot of good to make up for it. The world design is gorgeous, the level design is great with lots of verticality and the setting is so lovely and unique. I have heard it’s fairly short, and I do maybe concur that it might not merit a full price purchase, but I do think it’s worth wishlisting for a deep sale if you like the genre. I’m having a lot of fun with it so far.

Mostly played Resonance of Fate. The story is surprisingly slice-of-lifey and the character interactions are pretty charming. The gameplay tho is a bit dull. I’m 15 hours in and more or less have been repeating the same thing for each battle, so I’m not sure how long I’m gonna play.

Also just started Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon.

If you like r6 siege’s terrorist hunt, perhaps you will like Ready or Not.

Or you can look for older games like SWAT 4 on gog.com.

Ghost Recon Wildlands?

Echo5,

I was gonna say this, not sure if it’s quite meeting all the OP specs but pretty close on most fronts.

I’d recommend checking out the Far Cry games, from Far Cry 2 onwards.

Also, while not necessarily exactly the thing you’re looking for, the Sniper Ghost Warrior series offers a lot of good stuff. especially SGW3 and later are really fun and have pretty decent gunplay and the games can be played pretty nicely without focusing on the sniper aspect.

And if you feel like doing even more snipering, Sniper Elite gives you some NICE slow-mo X-ray closeups of your bullets destroying your enemies, but the gunplay besides Snipers isn’t that fun.

I’m reminded of Dan Bulls rap on Wolfenstein. “Brought big bloody bag of guns to the party, 'cuz what’s the point in just punching a Nazi”

We at least need a mod to add red hats and the dumbest looking blond hair ever to enemies

Rose,

Check out Carmageddon: Max Damage.

I absolutely love the FF7R series and love what they've done with it.

I have played other remakes that are basically exact carbon copies and eventually I get bored of them or can recognize that there are some gaming mechanics from 20 years ago that aren't really great in today's era.

So I enjoy how FF7R tried a more daring approach and... at least for me it worked well. From combat to story telling, I give it full marks. I know it's not for everyone, but they're some of my favorite games ever.

I like these more experimental remakes. Silent Hill 2’s Remake was the same way and it offered something new yet different which i really like. I really hope we get more of these experimental remakes
