I play old school maplestory on maplelegends. They have strict “no real world trade” rules and no pay to win. It really is just the game how it should be played, which really highlights all the flaws in the game (there are many)
Obviously the main draw is nostalgia, so if it’s something you’ve never played it won’t have much value, but the community is great and it’s an mmo with lots to do and endgame content to aspire to
Yes, not only many people still play the same games for 10 years, but also spend most of their gaming time in them. There’s a reason why a new live service game is both a gold mine and also incredibly difficult to stick.
I think that, if you have the resources to support that niche, which the savings from cheap offers hopefully allowed for, and you want to see it grow, it’s worth paying more.
Buying isn’t supporting. Capitalism is not a social support network.
Companies have spent millions and taken years to convince people that going shopping is a kind of activism.
If I suggested you donate money directly to a video game company, or volunteer your time to help them you’d see right away how fucking weird that whole concept is.
Patient gaming is a budgeting technique, not a strict law you must always adhere to.
I separate upcoming releases into two categories: games I'm so excited for that I would gladly pay full price at launch, and games I'm willing to wait on. Which games go in which category depend entirely on you and your budget.
The question can be asked for most things in life really so just do both options. Generally I’m a “value for money” gamer now but If something catches my eye I will make an effort to support it.
This is going to be a weird suggestion but, if you like the pvm aspect of killing bosses to get powerful loot and take on more difficult challenges, you should play Remnant 2.
It’s a souls like shooter about exploring a few different worlds searching for new gear so you can make better builds, loot is not randomized so there is a clear BiS for your build.
If you like startcraft like RTS, StormGate its on beta right now. RPGs they are ton, just not AAA anymore. All the posterchilds of gaming are FPS, if is not one, you will not know of them if you dont search for yourself.
The allure to me is the economy. If it doesn’t have free trading, especially difficult trading (requiring an out-of-game web site like D2JSP), it’s not exciting for me to just get items that only affect me. Diablo II and D2R are the only ARPGs that feel super exciting for me to find something rare, because there’s actually a sense of value to the items.
I have been playing City of Heroes, which is a superhero MMO and I’m surprised how much I dig it despite multiplayer games not being my thing. PVE is much more comfortable for me and the game let’s you make any kind of hero you want, and u can make ur own battle cry as well which is funny.
Also it has one of the best gender options in gaming: Male, Female or Huge. Badass
Another one I’m playing rn is Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, this is a remaster of the old Alex Kidd in Miracle World game which I never played but I’m digging this remaster as well. The new graphics and art is gorgeous and the ability to switch seamlessly from new to old graphics is spectacular. I have always loved old 2D side-scroller even though they are always more challenging than modern games, I like having to fight through something after multiple tries. I was having trouble with the game and after reaching one of the later levels of the game, my save file glitched and reset everything(cloud sync issue probably, I need to turn that off) which almost made me quit the game but I had learned so much so I gave it another try and was surprised that I got to where I was in an hour and beat the boss I was on before in first time. Very very satisfying
There are some other games I’m playing rn but I don’t wanna write too long so here are just their names: CLeM (amazing, intriguing puzzle game), Skies of Arcadia (emulated through Flycast with RetroArch, has achievements even!) and Peggle which I’m trying to 100% even after 30 hours haha
