NFL 2K5. It would be a somber, warmly-lit memorial, a pedestal bearing a single copy of the (Xbox version of) the game, with a spotlight shining down on it from above as it rotated. An eternal flame, possibly several, burn nearby. The walls would be digital, montages of all the memories. There would be mournful orchestral music playing, heavy on the clarinets and oboes.
And a screen where it plays YouTubers comparing it to every version of Madden for a decade-plus after. Eventually finding Madden to look better, but always finding Madden lacking in features and presentation.
100% guarantee there are probably still YouTubers doing that in 2025. And you might be surprised how good it can look upscaled to 4K, if you haven’t tried it.

Every opinion is valid and people can disagree with it. But have you considered that there are museums of torture devices, or substance abuse. In that spirit what are the games that could should be remembered as a cautionary tale? For me it would be heroes3, minecraft, rimworld. These took most of my life (rotted most of my brain).
I was actually just kidding. I don’t do much gaming myself, but I don’t actually believe games to be brainrot. As for games that should be forever remembered, Club Penguin gets my vote. Minecraft was kinda fun, until I suddenly started getting headaches from field of view or whatever it is (screen speen, no good for head).
Mario & Luigi games are still JRPGs, which is a genre that’s more of a vibe than something easily defined. Here it’s a little easier because the series traces back to a major JRPG developer in the 1990s.
Even Expedition 33, another one with timed gameplay, is frequently getting lumped into the category (though that might change in coming years). That’s why I prefer the term Japanese-style role-playing games, as the genre is increasingly seeing game dev outside of Japan.
I actually bought this when I was a kid! Loved hearing some Twisted Sister in the menu!
I don’t think I ever beat it as a kid, but thankfully never forgot about the game. I don’t remember when exactly I bought it, but it probably wasn’t 2003; regardless, I enjoyed the visual and the gameplay and the theme.
It’s great to see other people actually remember and speak well of the game. I might have to revisit.
Some of my friends and I in a D&D campaign managed to talk our way out of so many encounters, and heist our way through so many quests, that we started calling ourselves Ocean’s Five. It was some of the most fun I’ve had in that game, improving our way through heists and getting away with it.
I got back into Shapez 2 recently and getting the factory flowing has been really fun. I like that you don’t have to try and figure out how to cram everything into a tiny space, you can take as much room as you like to make well-designed factories.
(I have absolutely no idea how to even start to build a Make Anything Machine though)
I read that they will do a new game mode where you dont have to remove everything you built in the beginning. Looking forward to that before I play it again. Only played back when the first release was but looking forward to the new mode as that was something that bothered me.
RoboCop Rogue City here. Picked it up on sale and have really been enjoying it. They did a great job of capturing the atmosphere of in universe Detroit, and made it feel like you are playing RoboCop. No diving behind cover, no massive arsenal, not even a crouch. The story line is solid, and the gameplay moves along nicely, which unlocks, skill upgrades, etc scattered throughout. 9/10
I’m excited to hear that! I also picked it up on the sale because it was outrageously cheap, but it’s not near the top of my backlog pile. Should probably rewatch the movies first too, whenever it gets time to play it.
