I still go back and listen through the original Arrow Pointing Down/Giant Bombcast up until Ryan's passing. The age of the content makes it downright historically interesting now for their commentary on game releases.

The chemistry of those guys (Vinny and Brad included) is still untouchable, no one can rein Jeff in and play off him as well as Ryan did, and Ryan is by far my favorite person to ever grace that website and podcast, and rightfully so as it was his child with Jeff. Rest in peace.

NAM, do gaming w If the same game is available and on sale on GOG and Steam, on which platform you rather buy it?

Assuming the price is exactly the same on both platforms (or even within like $10 if I’m not getting a Steam key from the GOG purchase), I’m buying from Steam every time. Mainly for the convenience of having it in my Steam library, so I can’t just flat out forget that I own the game already when I finally get around to playing whatever it was, because god knows I don’t immediately play straight through the vast majority of games I buy.

It was gameranx and gaming historian but maybe nothing soon with the way YouTube is trying to kill off 3rd party clients

Dubious_Fart, do gaming w If the same game is available and on sale on GOG and Steam, on which platform you rather buy it?

I buy it on steam, because downloading the individual game installer files is annoying, and GOG Galaxy never worked right for me on windows.

On Linux, however, Lutris has good GOG integration, so I can just log into my GOG account via Lutris and install literally every game I own (which I have like 100 on gog) without much issue now.

root,

Good to know (regarding Lutris and GOG). I’ve always stuck with Steam because of the ease of running games on Linux).

It’s a lot of extra steps, though, and for me I’ve got two separate Linux systems I’m generally running things on.

I don’t disagree with the logic, I just wish GOG had a Linux client. It’s not just about Steam Deck (even though that’s driven a lot of recent Proton development) – there are serious issues with continued reliance on Microsoft, and FOSS solutions offer gamers a way to maintain a freedom they are otherwise likely to lose. It seems like GOG would want to support that effort.

chicken, do piracy w How could I start a torrent site and not get caught?

I wonder if there could be a torrent site that is decentralized enough that no one really has significant liability for running it, like Bittorrent itself but for the indexing/curation aspect.

SootyChimney,

I-Is this serious? This is literally what The Pirate Bay is now.

chicken,

The Pirate Bay is decentralized and not run by any particular people/group? That’s news to me, and kind of hard to believe tbh, can you cite a source?

Mtrad, do gaming w If the same game is available and on sale on GOG and Steam, on which platform you rather buy it?

I use Steam mainly because I haven’t found any major issues with how Valve does things overall. It’s been a fairly good experience for many years. Plus, with the steam deck it’s much more convenient to have on Steam.

Now, I’m thinking if the price goes low enough, I’d pick it off GoG to download the installer and store someone just in case. I like the idea of having a backup just in case.

I actually use steam to install the GoG game installers and completely bypass the heroic launcher.

In short, I hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

For some reason I’m on Rogue Legacy 2, cause it’s free with PS Plus Extra. Simple rogue lite, and right now life is kinds stressful so it’s nice to pick up a game that I don’t really need to think about. The mechanics are fun, and it’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed a platformer like this. Also playing Humanity from PA Plus, and it’s excellent. Almost done with it, and looking forward to trying out some of the user-made levels once I’m done with the story mode.

I get all my news from Lyle Rath on Pregame Discharge. He’s told me it’s the only videogame show, so I’m surprised to hear about all these other shows.

I enjoy listening to these podcasts more for their entertainment value than just trying to get the best information.

Podquisition - The hosts are very entertaining as they go over the games they've played as well as news in the industry. Laura also does a great job at reporting news leaks.

What's Good Games - Industry veterans who run a little too high energy go over gaming news as well as games they've played and often get hands-on impressions for upcoming titles.

The Inverted Castle - Fun retrospectives on Metroidvania games of old.

Square Roots - A Let's Play on classic RPGs that goes into great detail on each game across multiple episodes featuring the hosts thoughts and opinions on the games as they play through each section together.

FPS: Friends Per Second and the SkillUp channel in general. I also keep up to date with AngryJoeShow and his reviews/news videos.

forgotaboutlaye,

I'd agree - SkillUp's channel (including FPS), and Digital Foundry's DF Weekly covers pretty much all my gaming needs with their content.
