Tf2 isnt about winning. You dont need much skill to have fun imo

mnemonicmonkeys, do gaming w If the same game is available and on sale on GOG and Steam, on which platform you rather buy it?

I use Steam. CDPR has burned me with several of their games and I refuse to give them money anymore.

CloverSi,

CDPR as in CD Projekt Red? Are they associated with GOG in some way?

CoconutKnight,

I think GoG is CDPR’s client

Ductos,
@Ductos@mastodon.social avatar

@CoconutKnight @CloverSi Yes, it is. A separate division, but still the same company.

mnemonicmonkeys,

Yes. CDPR owns GOG

CoconutKnight,

I personally like most of their games, so I am curious what you dislike about them?

echo64, do games w Quake II (Remaster) Review Thread | (90/100 OpenCritic)

Man 10/10s for quake 2 of all things is crazy to see. We didn’t even think that back in the day, and it was quickly overshadowed by just the hype for half life.

It’s far from the best quake game, especially a few episodes in. But maybe it just being so old school is attracting some of these number, just from being refreshing.

But then there are so many modern boomer shooters that are quake2-era like, that are probably worth more of your time.

All that being said, I do have a lot of fond memories with the game

habanhero, (edited )

It might not be the best Quake game but it did a few things right. The fast and furious multiplayer is signature and is what probably cemented the style of multiplayer that Quake is known for today. The weapon roster is more balanced and who could forget the iconic railgun. The mod scene was incredibly vibrant and tons of fun. Truly a granddaddy of FPS.

echo64,

Oh I don’t know about that, Quake 2 Multiplayer was… played, a bit. mostly in mods. And when I think of the big mods really they found their footing when they switched over to being HL1 mods. Quake World and Quake 3 multiplayer are really what dialled in that multiplayer feel for the series.

BearCatt,

What boomer shooters would you recommend? I have recently been going through Half Life and the more modern Wolfenstein games. I started quake 1 today after finishing Blue Shift and am hungry for more in the genre.

echo64,

depends on your platform, but cross platform happy games I had a great time with Doom 64 (by the same guys as the quake 2 remaster here) and Project Warlock; which has an art style that takes a minute to get over. but it’s got great level design and a really great power creep. had a lot of fun

on pc there’s a lot more, there’s the remasters like Blood, Shadow Warrior, you can get Duke 3D going with EDuke (or buy the fucked sound quality version on steam…), for modern there’s Nightmare Reaper that brings in a rougelike quality, Dusk which is the best Quake engine game ever not made on the Quake engine, Amid Evil, Headon, Project Warlock 2

Edgelord_Of_Tomorrow,

It’s so ripe for a Brutal Doom style makeover, especially now the game engine has been modernised.

The enemies and variety are great, but the AI could be more interesting to fight.

The shooting feels great but the lack of locational damage (like headshots) and ADS or alt fire modes makes it feel simplistic in terms of strategy.

Otherwise the maps are fantastic, the atmosphere and music is incredible, the Strogg are a cool enemy to fight, it could really shine with a few modern touches.

It's hype.

I hate tabletop RPGs, so I know no matter how good everyone says it is, I know it's not for me.

Maximilious,
@Maximilious@kbin.social avatar

My nephew whom is mainly an FPS player and said that BG3 was not for him has recently picked it up and is loving multiplayer with his friends.

As a previous player of the BG series and others like it, BG3 is a far cry from any of its predecessors. I'm not stating your opinion isn't fair, but wanted to also give another account of players that don't consider this their type of game and are surprised to like it.

finthechat,
@finthechat@kbin.social avatar

That's fine and fair.

I know I'm just getting downvoted by people emotionally hurt by me stating I dislike tabletop RPGs. But my opinion is also being informed by my past experience with Larian's other celebrated game, Divinity Original Sin 2. No matter how hyped it was, or how clearly polished it was, I didn't think that game was fun either.

No, you're getting down voted by people for saying "It's hype" while at the same time tacitly acknowledging that you haven't even played it.

finthechat,
@finthechat@kbin.social avatar

I don't see how me playing or not playing the game would disqualify me from recognizing the phenomenon surrounding this game as "hype." It's marketing hype, it's fresh new game hype, it's whatever you want to call it. The game is out, it's popular, people are leaving glowing reviews about it everywhere. That's hype.

Just because I'm calling it "hype" doesn't mean I'm bashing the game, I'm making an observation where I give OP a concise response.

oo1,

yeah, i like the game and even i can see its hyped in articles and on forums.

every time someone article has the word "polished".
it has tonnes of quest bugs, these type of games always do.

the ui is remarkably good - for this type of game, on steamdeck controller; but it's not a slick ui.

there's always tradeoffs and compromises. complexity of quests leads to bugs, complexity of player choices leads to analysis paralysis/tyranny of choice and cumbersome ui.

You nerds sure love putting words in my mouth. People need to calm their titties at best, or just shut the fuck up in general. Everyone's so programmed to just turning every single casual discussion online into a black and white argument of who is right or wrong. (That's you I'm talking about, btw)

Tell me you completely missed the point of every comment I've made in this thread without telling me you completely missed the point of every comment I've made in this thread.

Shilkanni,

Why is it “hype” when it’s not made for you?

finthechat,
@finthechat@kbin.social avatar

I mean, the snarky side of me wants to say "tell me you completely misunderstood my comment without telling me you completely misunderstood my comment."

Though in case you are asking in good faith, I already wrote above "Just because I'm calling it "hype" doesn't mean I'm bashing the game, I'm making an observation where I give OP a concise response."

To elaborate further: it seems like people are assuming "hype" has negative connotations where I'm actually delivering some underhanded criticism of the game, or Larian, or themselves as fans of the game, or themselves as fans of the movement of a non AAA game studio experiencing runaway critical success. I am doing none of these things. OP was wondering "what is up with Baldur's Gate 3?" and I answered. It's hype.

There are other comments from people explaining the fine details of why BG3 is getting hyped up so much and those comments are rightly upvoted to the top, as they should be. However, for someone who doesn't have any skin in the game and is only passively interested in this whole thing (me, for example), this entire situation can be described as excitement, exuberance, noise, or... hype.

Holy fuck I miss the days when words actually had meaning.

johnthedoe, do gaming w Steam Deck VS rivals

Like others have said. It’s because steam deck runs steam os that makes it better than the rest. It’s a catered os for the device. It was after I jumped in I realised how robust it is. Every game in integrated works on Linux no issue I even took windows off my desktop pc. Best reason is also community. Steam deck has plenty of online support whereas the other ones are a bit more saturated

morsebipbip, do gaming w what's some of the best dialogue systems you've seen and why?

the witcher 3 is great It shows short sentences but Geralt doesn’t exactly say that and usually develops a little more. If you are impatient, you can choose a simple sentence and skip the talking without losing the general meaning. You can also listen to the whole thing.

FlowerDeepSeaFish, do games w PC Game Recommendation for a Broken Arm?

Slay the Spire and Darkest Dungeon can be played with only a mouse and you don’t need any reaction, maybe when you configure the overlay in the settings for the games it’s then playable with only the keybord. Maybe you can also play Dredge in the passive mode with only one hand and only keybord I havent tried it out with this restriction

Alteon, do games w Does there exist a factory game or zachlike that's like this?:

Maybe Techtonica? It just came out on Gamepass. It’s like Satisfactory but in a cave and you can’t just build anywhere… honestly, it’s just another factory game though.

You play Dyson Sphere Program yet? It’ll scratch a lot of itches. Riftbreaker was pretty fun as well. A little meh at the higher levels though.

WillRegex,

Would Riftbreaker Prologue give a good idea of the gameplay of Riftbreaker?

Alteon,

Yeah, I believe so. Looks pretty much the same.

Cannot view the link without signing in, but Peglin can be played with just the arrow keys and space bar as the minimum amount of keys needed. I cannot say whether WASD works, but it’s pretty simple to play.
