Played about an hour and a half last night. It seems essentially a glorified Trek themed Stellaris expansion. Which given it was only £25 quid I don’t mind too much.
Seems to have massive performance issues that get worse the longer you play. Hope they manage to fix that. Was looking forward to playing it coop with a friend.
I’ve put a couple hundred hours into RimWorld (base game without expansions) and haven’t run into any bugs. The only bugs I’ve seen relate to the multiplayer mod.
I second rimworld in general but I‘d say its a management sym rather than strategy. Real strategy games (and the best ones I know of) are starcraft 1 and c&c red alert. They’re as old as time but don’t have bugs afaik since games were made different back then.
Agreed, I would call CK3 or Rimworld “simulation” games not “strategy” games. When I think strategy I think turn based strategy like XCom, FF tactics, or Civ games. SC2 and C&C would be Real-Time Strategy, but from OP’s examples it didn’t sound like that’s what they’re looking for. Maybe they’d like Northgard though.
Really excited to play this one, however many are pointing out how the performance is lacking. I think we will wait out a bit and see if it gets improved in the next few months. The lantern mechanic seems extremely cool.
If by “game world” you allow TRRPG’s then it’d be Golarion (Pathfinder 2e) and last nights game was “Case File #4” where a creepy leather bound book (the ‘Dark Archive’) keeps appearing and transporting us to various other places to fight undead.
#4 was an abandoned mansion overrun with undead that we needed to clean out. Fuck almighty almost every room was a combat session!
So to be teleported there I’d just run away. Even if I could find a suitable weapon I’d not survive more than one encounter. Not worth throwing away my actual life for some stupid book!
