The last time I can recall being wowed by graphics was when I finally got an HDTV in 2008 and saw Oblivion on it (the environment, not the ugly lump of clay people). The jump to HD was huge, but ever since then it’s been incremental advancements.
Yeah, while there is an improvement in graphics, it largely plateaued after the PS3/360 “HD” era. We’re fast approaching a time when a 20 year old game will still look pretty good by modern standards instead of hopelessly outdated.
I’ve been playing Diablo IV on PS5. I avoided paying full price after reading reviews, but the recent sale seemed worth it for some mindless hack n’ slash grinding. It was worth $42, but I would have been disappointed if I’d paid $70. Not a fan of the always-online, especially since I don’t have PS Plus, but one nice perk has been being able to play it on my PS4 when the main TV is being used without needing to manually transfer saves.
I like the 2018 GOW and first Spider-Man, but just couldn’t get into the sequels. I guess they’re just so similar I felt like I was done and didn’t want more. Horizon I never liked because I hate the combat. I also liked the first Last of Us, but didn’t want to play as someone I hated in the sequel.
