echo64, do games w Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin Flops, Frontier Shares Tank Nearly 20% - IGN

add this to the list of games that flopped before I even knew they existed, You really do have to put down real money to market games if you want people to purchase them

echo64, do games w PlayStation Portal review: impressive hardware but is Remote Play itself good enough?

we all think that it costs too much don’t worry, but also you should understand the value proposition it has. people are paying “too much” because it serves a real function.

no, we don’t want to hogtie a controller to a phone, we want the nice ergonomics of a playstation controller all built together. it’s worth understanding that value.

echo64, do games w PlayStation Portal review: impressive hardware but is Remote Play itself good enough?

It’s completely useless, unless you want to play your ps5 in the same kind of way you play a nintendo switch. In which case it works super well.

it turns out a lot of people want that. People could stick a laptop on their lap and get out a controller and play nintendo switch on that too, but that’s a pain. people just want a thing they can pick up. and they are happy to have it. even if you are angry about it.

I think that niche might be bigger and more normal than you think it is.

Why a handheld if 99% of people don’t want to use it outside of the house and just want a home-portsble

Edit to just point out how disappointed I am in this community lately. It’s become all the things that made me dislike reddit. The circlejerk here is just as strong, and all the discussions we had initially are gone in favor of updooting my opinion and downdooting everyone else.

echo64, do games w Court rules Gabe Newell must appear in person to testify in Steam anti-trust lawsuit

It was both.

echo64, do games w Activision wants to recommend games to you based on the livestreams you watch

Yes, or rather its a problem for publishers trying to get their product noticed. Marketing in the past decade has fast become the most expensive part of making things, just getting people to know your thing exists, yeah its hard.

It’s not a problem for people, people don’t care. Companies do.

On the other side of things, it’s why we have so many sequels and franchises now, it’s much easier to market franchises. No one can make a Call of Duty killer, primarily because even if you make a game people would love, it’s hard to get people to even know.

echo64, do games w Court rules Gabe Newell must appear in person to testify in Steam anti-trust lawsuit

Yes, it’s unhealthy for the undustry even if you enjoy it today. Gabe newel is old. He’s going to retire soon and likely sell the company. You won’t like what happens after that, and the fact that so much of the industry is provided via their product means they have a lot of agency to tighten the screws.

“OH but then we’ll just use something else”. That’s not how the monopoly works, you might, most won’t. Most of what you want won’t be on the something else.

echo64, do games w Court rules Gabe Newell must appear in person to testify in Steam anti-trust lawsuit

Valve hasn’t done anything shady, but monopolies are still bad and unhealthy. Both things are true. And there are no other options for less of a cut if you want to actually make sales, pc gamers won’t purchase from other platforms.

People don’t buy games on the competitors, but yes may developers did flock to epic, which made everyone hate epic.

echo64, do games w Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya says 'It would be a disaster' if he ever collaborated with Hideo Kojima or Yoko Taro: 'It doesn't work like in Dragon Ball'

Everything he’s ever made was a collaboration between him and other creative people, he’s just being big headed about himself

echo64, do games w Embracer: Human cost of restructure is "significant" but "necessary"

Bunch of moron execs go on an industry buying spree, is shocked when the infinite money dries up, kills the jobs they bought. Embracer are truely awful.

…playstation.com/…/EP4497-PPSA10408_00-0000000000… this game has a next-gen SKU for ps5, to access ps5 feature sets, that they misnamed as a “patch”. note how it says [ps4] [ps5]

echo64, do games w Kotaku Asks: How Soon Is Too Soon For A Video Game Remaster Or Remake?

Except where it clearly can. For example, Witcher 3’s next gen update adds features like ray tracing.

this is a new SKU release for next gen systems, it’s not a patch. it’s a new version of the game.

echo64, do games w Kotaku Asks: How Soon Is Too Soon For A Video Game Remaster Or Remake?

No, they have unlocked profiles. This is absolutely not the same thing as releasing a game made for previous gen for current gen it does not give you access to most of the graphical and audio capabilities of the modern platform, nor does it give you access to features like duelsense triggers and rumble.

It mearly takes the speed limit off the ps4 abstractation layer.

I want to be super clear about how these are very very different things. And also about how it’s petty to go and press the downvote button on someone’s posts when you’re having a conversation with them. Numbers don’t mean anything here, it’s just petty and makes conversation weird.

echo64, do games w Kotaku Asks: How Soon Is Too Soon For A Video Game Remaster Or Remake?

you can’t do a ‘patch’ for a new platform, you have to release a new SKU. that’s just the mechanics of it. that’s what 99% of these things that people are mad about are. it also gives people an excuse to print mode physical medias which makes people who like physical media happy.
