If you've done the Final Fantasy marathon did you include FF XI? Was it worth it? angielski

I’ve been playing through all the numbered games and its been great. I could write an essay or two on any of them. In general I’m only including base games and no expansions or DLC so it wouldn’t be a huge undertaking to beat 11, but I’m trying to see if it’s worth it from others who have done the marathon....

Oh hi! I played XI from release until recently (with some breaks). IMHO the original story (basically up to Rank 6 where you defeat the Shadow Lord) is fine, but it’s really more of a prelude and setting up the stakes. If you stop there it’s not really worth your time.

Rise of the Zilart and Chains of Promathia (+ optionally Apocalypse Nigh) are pretty good from a story perspective. These can be completed solo. This is what I’d recommend playing through to anyone interested in the real story.

From there it’s somewhat diminishing returns. Treasures and Wings add some interesting bits to the lore. Rhapsody is actually great but will take a lot of time and effort and is probably only worth it to a die hard fan.

Played about 5 hours tonight and I’m loving it. I wasn’t sure how much content to expect for early access but this is more than I would have guessed. The combat feels really really good. Charging your abilities with mana starts to feel better once you build up some regen on it and you can use it more freely. It took me a minute to nail how to aim the long charged special but now it’s one of my faves to spam.

A few little surprises have happened that made me grin really big as a big Hades 1 fan as well. I did not play EA last time around but I decided this time I want to be a part of that experience and see how the game evolves.

I think it’s 100% that steam makes so much money on its own. Valve stopped being a game developer once steam really took off and became the behemoth it is. Valve is in the e-commerce business, period.

I loved Alyx too for what it’s worth but my expectations for the future are dim.

Oh wow. I remember a friend being into this forever ago. Had no idea it was still in early access. That’s nuts!

Signed up immediately, not sure how many are gonna be let in though so trying not to get my hopes up. Cannot wait for this game!

I also only had time for one episode so far but I dug it. Felt like they really nailed the vibe. I am loving our three main characters too.

I’m not a huge fan of gore but the violence here felt on par with the game and a little bit slapstick in a way that for me made it less gross and more silly.

I’m excited to watch more soon!

Oh man, I love the Stanley Parable! I shudder to think what the collectors stuff will cost, but damn if the “Jim” button isn’t tempting. Also delighted at the cassette tape option.

Ah of course, what was I thinking? 😅

+1 for Tunic especially if you go for all of the late game puzzles and other stuff that I shall not spoil. I have the Tunic plushy up on my shelf!

Since puzzle games seem to be the theme overall here I’ll mention Cocoon. It’s a recent puzzler that is absolutely gorgeous to look at and did some super clever stuff imo.

Remedy acquires full rights to the Control franchise from 505 (www.destructoid.com) angielski

Today, on February 28, nearly five years after Control’s initial launch, Remedy Entertainment, the team behind the Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and Control series, released an announcement regarding a deal between them and 505 Games, detailing a full transition to Remedy acquiring full rights to the franchise. While Remedy...

Oh nice. I loved Control, so this is comforting to see!

Now that is a level of spite I can get behind.

Borderlands players - what is your opinion about the new movie trailer? (piped.kavin.rocks) angielski

Apologies that this is not a pure gaming question, but I’d really like to hear people’s opinion on the Borderlands movie trailer and especially from people who have played the games. That’s why I’m asking here, I hope that’s ok.

Looks pretty awful to me. Wild casting choices. I like Jack Black but he doesn’t read right as Claptrap to me at all. Roland is a gruff tough guy, not whatever Hart is going to do here. And Tina here comes off as a scared child instead of the absolute firebrand she ought to be.

Who, in your opinion, is the most annoying character in any game?

Personally, it’s Faith from Farcry 5 for me. Uninteresting dialog that can be summed up to “I was bullied once” and that’s it. Literally every other character is so much more interesting. Jacob gives you a sequence where you run through a gulag which he then uses against you, John tries to kill you and is openly hateful...

The first that comes to mind is the entire crew in Pikmin 4, and particularly Collin. Those little chatterboxes never ever shut up or cease giving you advice on things you already know how to do. I hate them so much.

Haha, sorry. They just drove me up the wall. Somebody else in this thread besmirched a character I like though so I know the feels.

Coming back to revise my answer. It’s definitely FF7 Chadley.

What games can you recommend that didn't get the appreciation that they deserved? angielski

I’ve been recently been thinking about Arkane Studio’s Prey which is a immersive sim, with a pretty good rogue like dlc, that probably has one of the strongest hooks of any game I’ve played. If you liked Halflife, System Shock, or Deus Ex it’s definitely worth a play....

I really liked Unsighted and didn’t feel like I saw a whole lot of hype around it at the time.
