SenorBolsa, do gaming w Denuvo security is now on Switch, including new tech to block PC Switch emulation

Who really knows it’s all very strange to me, the scene has generally always been very much out of mainstream politics except when it relates to tech/IP law, and generally pretty egalitarian, insofar as no one knows who is on the other end of any conversation.

“No”

SenorBolsa, do gaming w What's a good game you played with an awful tutorial?
@SenorBolsa@beehaw.org avatar

Oh yeah, I forgot, it’s been a decade you used to literally just punch sheep and I vaguely recall when that update dropped. I recall eventually just looking stuff up, but a lot of it I figured out on my own first. Redstone is absolutely something that really needs an in game guide that the game completely lacks, nothing about it is intuitive at all, even if you know how digital logic works it behaves a little strangely.

I always played the game to build cool forts and castles so wool was definitely useful to me to make them look good.

zombies dropped feathers because the game didn’t have chickens until sometime after 2012 (0.3?) and you needed them for arrows alphas are just like that. The Rust alpha was similarly nonsensical.

I always thought part of the appeal was just discovering the world and how it works, but it’s so established at this point it’s better to just have a guide in game.

The early builds had few enough things you could make that it wasn’t really that hard to intuitively figure out but in it’s current state it would be near impossible to figure out how to make some things without recipes to guide you.

like early alpha builds I think the only thing that would have tripped you up hard would be trying to make dynamite firestarter, or shears even then you could experiment for a while and figure it out.

Especially when we know it runs without any major issues apart from audio desync at higher frame rates in Xenia.

There’s some really minor details with animation that would require some patching to get best results but nothing too difficult and even if you left them in only wonks like me would really notice.

And audio desync is probably only because of the emulation accuracy but even if it’s an inherent problem with the code it can be fixed relatively trivially.

I’ve used computers for years like that, also these card edge connectors are pretty standard and can be easily replaced by anyone who can do basic soldering.

lifetime fluid usually means “lifetime of the warranty” There are incredible high tech oils now that can easily last 100k mi in their intended use but they don’t work forever.

while we are on this topic the Detroit recommended oil change interval for the semi I drove was 85k miles, so basically slightly more than anually. Completely blew my mind, though in between oil changes they also took samples and tested them which is a big part of what makes that possible otherwise you’d change it at 35k to be safe. also the things took 5 gallons of motor oil, so a smaller proportion of the oil is being pummeled by the crankshaft bearings and piston seals, at least that’s how it was explained to me.

Yeah I mean fuck the DMCA in general but I can’t imagine the adhoc fuckery that would have replaced it.

Yeah, the OG pea soup gameboy screen is an engineering marvel for it’s time and the game boy pocket is even better, the GBA is too, but an utter failure at actually providing a good user experience.

SenorBolsa, do gaming w You can play Starfield on PC and Xbox even if you only buy it once
@SenorBolsa@beehaw.org avatar

pcgamesn is scraping the bottom of the barrel, they literally just find ways to say something with starfield in the title. This has been a thing since at least 2016 when FH3 came out.

It’s a cool feature, always worth some mention, but baffling that they feel the need to generate a whole article out of this.

SenorBolsa, (edited ) do gaming w What type of game do you want to play that doesn't really exist?
@SenorBolsa@beehaw.org avatar

Street Legal Racing Redline, but good.

You get to actually modify cars “by hand” swapping out or repairing individual components and the chassis can get bent up by big wrecks, you can buy new or used cars and tear them down and build them up and just cruise the world do street or track racing, demo derby etc. It’s all extremely rough but conceptually it’s the best thing ever, you really get to “own” a car and experience the highs and lows associated with that.

The closest game with any amount of polish I’ve played is Test Drive: Eve of Destruction you buy cars at the junkyard and take them to demo derbies, they need to be repaired upgraded etc and they have permanent damage from big hits.

Obviously there is My Summer Car and Mon Bazou both great games but they lack a racing centric gameplay loop and MSC in particular is too hardcore to be a mainstream game.

SenorBolsa, do gaming w Anyone else remember those giant scale maps that used to be in shooters? e.g. bathroom, kitchen, office, backyard, that made you feel so tiny?

HL2DM had some awesome rat maps. I need to backup my collection of source maps off my old hard drive.

SenorBolsa, do gaming w Starfield's already the top seller

Like at least find out if the planets are any good first and not just 2000 procedurally generated flavors of bear asses to collect.

Hopefully there’s a whole RPG game in there and those are just side stuff to muck around and get some loot.
