Never. I hate the preorder exclusive bonuses; it’s anti-consumer bullshit, especially in an age where every game is available as a digital download, even the physical copies usually require downloads. Publishers are enticing customers to pay while hype is high, before the product is actually available, before quality has been proven and before reviews are published.
I hate gift cards for the same reason, you’re giving money to corporations before they’ve provided anything to you.
Hold on to your money, wait for reviews, then pay them for the finished product if you still want it.
I also think the rising launch prices of AAA games is bullshit, especially for singleplayer games. I’ll usually wait for a decent discount.
You just reminded me of a funny feature I found in Elite Dangerous (space MMO) to prevent combat logging (quitting suddenly during combat like a little b***h): if you press Alt+F4, the game doesn’t immediately exit, but shows you a Quit dialog (to main menu or desktop), and there’s a lengthy countdown if you’re near hostile ships. :)
Doesn’t prevent it entirely, but I thought it was pretty crafty.
Overpriced, battery not included, haptics suck compared to DualSense, face buttons get stuck sometimes (it’s clean), the cheap rubber coating started wearing and peeling after the first month of light use, triggers are squeaky and too stiff, drops bluetooth connection randomly, you need a stupid overpriced dongle for lower latency, and I just prefer the symmetrical PlayStation layout, never understood the offset sticks.
