pmk, w The Game (The 7th Guest theme song) cover by Los Coronados on Scarlet Moon Halloween Volume III

I just lost the game.

Die4Ever, w The Game (The 7th Guest theme song) cover by Los Coronados on Scarlet Moon Halloween Volume III

from The Fat Man:

Here’s the first of some surprises I’m throwing out there for October. #1, this cool Halloween album. Loads of sweet scary arrangements of game tunes from fellow game composers. The fifth track is my own The Game from Trilobyte Games , played by my surf band and featuring a wild solo by keyboard legend (and good friend) Adam Holzman. Next surprise…might there be a video? Stay tuned! Tagging David Ari Fischer

I remember playing this with my Dad. We got to some point in the later game and got stuck and couldn’t continue. Same thing happened with Monkey Island.

Back before the internet, we didn’t really have any way to get help. There was probably a number you could call, but I can’t remember.

Die4Ever,

Oh yeah I bet they had a phone number that’ll help you for a bunch of money lol

If you wanna try the game again, use ScummVM no matter which version of the game you buy (well, except Switch)

Here’s my spoiler free hint guide if you get stuck youtu.be/T5rBc_T8x2g

And here’s a different source for spoiler free hints www.uhs-hints.com/uhsweb/t7g

pixelscience,

Oh yeah, my Dad was a cheapskate. No way he was going to pay for a 1 900 number lol.

Yep, on the ScummVM. I’ve played through all the Lucas arts games. I remember where I got stuck on Monkey Island and felt so dumb when I figured out what I wasn’t doing.

Die4Ever,

Was it the grog mugs? I got stuck there for a while lol

pixelscience,

It was the vending machine underground or in some tunnel in Monkey Island 2. It’s been a while since I played through that one again.

DarkDarkHouse,
@DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Oh man, I never finished it because I didn’t realise I could use the monkey as a wrench because “monkey wrench” was not a thing in my country. We have “shifting spanner” instead, so the wordplay was lost :(

Godort,

Was it the cans puzzle in the pantry?

Trying to puzzle out that sentence was a fucking nightmare.

The sentence in questionSHY GYPSY SLYLY SPRYLY TRYST BY MY CRYPT

fedev,

In the Monkey Island game itself there was a part in which you call the Lucas Arts Hint number.

Never thought about the angles you couldn’t see in the original. It seemed faithful enough to me. So I hadn’t noticed.

heavy, w really cool strategy guide for The 7th Guest, told in-character as a story

That’s cool. I remember there being print strategy guides made of high quality stuff. I used to have The Ocarina of Time (Prima?) guide and they largely wrote it like a narrative.

calavera, w The 11th Hour - Trailer 1995 - PC

I didn’t even know there was a sequel to 7th guest, good to know :)

Die4Ever, (edited )

welcome, Agent Calavera

The 11th Hour is pretty rough and frustrating lol, but if you can deal with the difficulty (or have a walkthrough ready) then it’s still enjoyable (definitely use ScummVM for this game)

The 13th Doll is much more palatable, The 7th Guest VR is great too

Die4Ever,

btw do you know about !adventuregames

Die4Ever, w The 7th Guest VR Receives Resolution Boost With Quest 3 Patch

I did my full playthrough on my PC, but after this update I did try it in on the Quest 3’s little processor and it was quite impressive for a battery powered device!

The Steam news page has more notes about the update in general

fer0n, w The 7th Guest VR first playthrough by me

Which headset did you end up buying? Was 7th Guest the first VR game you played? How did you like it? Sry I’m curious, kept thinking about you every time I saw something about 7th Guest ^^

I‘d watch the video but I don’t want to get spoilers before playing it myself.

Die4Ever, (edited )

I got a Quest 3, pre-ordered just for this game lol. Not my first VR game, I’ve played some on my sister’s Oculus Rift, and played a couple things in the week I had my headset before this game came out. I think the headset is great, really cool to be able to wirelessly link to the PC or play standalone, and the passthrough mode is cool too. And the cameras can auto create your boundaries too which is very convenient compared to my sister’s Oculus Rift.

T7GVR was awesome, you could tell the devs were real fans of the original game.

The puzzles aren’t as difficult as T7G or T11H, but there are a larger number of puzzles to compensate, and the puzzles still force you to think. People hated how difficult T11H was in 1995 lol so that would be even worse today, there’s no way any puzzle game could be that difficult today and expect to sell more than 5 copies lol.

And the soundtrack is full of beautiful remixes of the original songs. The volumetric videos are really cool and the graphics and art are great. The acting is good too, not as over the top as the original, but no one would’ve taken that seriously in this day and age lol.

Totally understandable about spoilers. I hope you enjoy the game!

We have a Discord community which is much more active than this. We’re very careful about spoilers there with separate channels for spoilers and even still using spoiler tags. We’ve also got a couple of the devs in there. discord.gg/Hss5cJg

Multiple fans of the OG in our community are gushing over this game, haven’t heard anyone who doesn’t like it.

fer0n,

Glad to hear it worked out that way and thanks for the detailed answer :)
