noUsernamesLef7, w What do you use to actually manage your stuff?

For managing my library on disk, I just recently made the effort to set up the *arr apps. I love having the metadata, tagging, organizing, and file naming all consistent and automated. Previously I used mp3tag and filebot to manage them and it was way more manual. Everything is set up with docker-compose and Ansible.

Library file stuff:

  • Two Radarr instances, one for 4k and another for lower resolutions
  • Sonarr for TV
  • Lidarr for music
  • Two readarr instances, one for epub/pdf and one for audiobooks
  • Jackett
  • deluge+openVPN

For library frontend stuff:

  • Jellyfin for movies, tv, music, audiobooks
  • Plex, for when Jellyfin is acting up
  • Jellyseer for TV & movie requests
  • LaunchBox for videogames and emulators
  • Calibre + calibreWeb for ebooks & syncing to my Kobo eReader

Haven’t set up yet:

  • flaresolverr
  • unpackerr
  • audiobookshelf

Doesn’t exist yet/wishlist:

  • *arr app for emulator ROMs (I’ll have to check out romm, looks pretty cool!)
Icedrous, w Third party Reddit apps just got canned.

I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority but it doesn’t make sense why these elitists are so upset. It was bound to happen eventually. Then they say the official Reddit app is unusable? It’s functional, it probably works better than half of the third party apps do anyway.

The only thing I’m upset about is the developers lost well earned money and their time and effort to make these apps only for them to shit the bed. But let’s be real: nobody’s really going to quit Reddit. I joined lemmy because I wanted a new social media app and I’m going to be using it alongside Reddit. Will I use Reddit more than lemmy? No, probably not. Will I use lemmy more than Reddit? Also no, probably not that either. I’ll use them side by side.

It’s kind of a shame that lemmy has mods though, from what I’ve been reading up on it, I thought it would be better than Reddit when it comes to freedom of speech. But just because it’s “federated” doesn’t mean you can’t say whatever you want. It just means it’s not owned by anyone in particular.

ModernRisk, w Third party Reddit apps just got canned.

Switched yesterday and so far, really liking it. Might even say, it’s better than Reddit at the moment already.

No heavy echo-chamber/ toxicity (yet). Just waiting that it becomes more active with more communities.

Falloutbros101, w Third party Reddit apps just got canned.

Yeah switched to lemmy yesterday and currently finding it ok. I’m usually just on phone so it’s a little weird, but I’m here for the community XD

PeachMan, w Which VPN Providers Really Take Privacy Seriously in 2023? * TorrentFreak
@PeachMan@lemmy.one avatar

Something that people need to realize: If you want a VPN for PRIVACY, Mullvad (edit: also maybe IVPN) is the only good option on this list. They make it very easy for you to maintain complete anonymity, they don’t even WANT your email address, you can use crypto, or you can literally mail them an envelope of cash with a note inside containing your unique ID and they’ll load up your account with that value. It’s ridiculous how seriously they take this stuff. And if you’re really concerned about privacy, you should also be taking extra steps like using a hardened OS and browser, and using disposable virtual machines. But I suspect that most of us here aren’t that concerned with actual privacy.

If you want a VPN for PIRACY, any of these options are probably fine as long as they don’t block or slow torrent traffic. Just use the fastest one here that you can afford. The only thing you’re really doing in this case is blocking your torrent traffic from your ISP. Remember, if you give them a credit card and your email address, then that’s not private! It’s just for piracy. It’s important to look at your priorities and pick a VPN accordingly.

Reverse engineering is honestly great fun. I’ve been doing it for like 8 years on and off but there is still so much to learn.

I recommend crackmes.one for crackme challanges to sharpen your skills.

Latecoere, w Are most of you using Torrents or Usenet?
@Latecoere@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

You’re surprised that most people use the free option that requires less hassle to get going?

TheOneCurly, w Are we committed to Lemmy? or would we move if something better comes along?
@TheOneCurly@lemmy.theonecurly.page avatar

I’m committed to ActivityPub. I don’t really care if the specific server backend ends up being lemmy, kbin, or something new.

Vision, w Nicotine Plus - Graphical Client For The Soulseek Peer-To-Peer Network For Music & Files

Soulseek for the most part is useless unless you want very obscure stuff. However the client looks very nice so good work.

Be sure to save our Megathread for future reference without relying on Reddit.

Bit of a mute point now, isn’t it? :)

crunchpaste, w [ Question ] How do Rip the content from Streaming Sites (Ex; Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc.;
@crunchpaste@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

If this is just for the fun of it I would try to run these services inside a virtual machine and just screen capture them. Never tried it but I don’t see a reason why it won’t work.

Mark_Taiwan, w Rats on The Boat - A BitTorrent P2P multi-platform search engine

Is this like a local DHT crawler? The project page is a bit vague on that front, and the architecture diagram is... not very helpful.
