The earth is estimated to “weigh” 13,170,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 pounds. (That is weird when you think about it. The weight of the earth being based on what something weighs on earth, I mean.)

Mt. Everest is only about 357,000,000,000,000 pounds and is just a tiny fraction of the mass of the earth.

So. My point is that we need a better way to portray scale of things in the universe. AUs work to a point but then we have to quickly move to parsecs. Parsecs quickly give way to light years. (Or vice-versa, depending on how you visualize things better.) Light years kinda work, but only for between 14-26 billion years. Even after all of that, I can hardly still fathom the size of Mt. Everest. (This was a rant, but not an angry rant.)

While I haven’t seen the previous conversation, looking at the title of this post and also at the title of the community, that leads me to believe that this may not be a community for political history.

Since many historical events (especially in regards to politics) may be controversial, painful, horrendously offensive, stressful or annoying, that also leads me to believe some people might have gotten pissed off reading that stuff in this particular community.

That is my best guess.

I missed it at first as well. The second paragraph implies they are red giants. However, there is a distinction between a red giant and a red super-giant, if that is what you mean.

Teachers generally want to teach so I have had great success reaching out to various people like that.

I don’t abuse that, of course. Keeping questions short and being respectful of their time is a huge plus, in my experience.

It wasn’t that difficult of a call. Layoffs are common after buyouts like these. I am surprised they didn’t just blame it on “redundant roles”. (It was overused during the pandemic, I suppose.)

Your first mistake is believing anything Phil said as even slightly remorseful. Executives are full of shit and emotions for them is an act. These layoffs were probably planned months in advance and it’s not like he can publicly applaud them, anyway.

This seems suspiciously like a “save game” feature. Many games even auto-save which functions suspiciously like what they are describing as a “trigger point”.

While I am sure this is new and innovative, it still reminds me of when pyramid schemes mostly converted to MLM terminology. I had a friend that tried to convince me that MLM wasn’t a pyramid. So, I had him draw their sales hierarchy on a sheet of paper for me…

By pure chance, I am watching Edge of Tomorrow as we type. (It’s a Tom Cruise time loop movie, if you haven’t seen it.)

A game with a story line built around that concept would be very interesting, for sure. However, the old Sierra adventure games came to mind, specifically Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry, where you just had to keep trying different things until you didn’t die. It was fun back in the day, but it got old really quick.

Implemention in a sports game is a cool idea, though.

The points you make are the exact reason why people are looking at this patent in a funny way.

What they are describing in the patent is basically a save game or checkpoints for subchapters in a game. This is not innovative or new and that is the problem. You can’t patent something that can already be considered public domain or common practice.

It’s very much a big deal if this has been done somewhere else. The patent is obscure enough to look unique but it common enough to start years long legal battles.

On reading the patent, it is specifically referencing streamed game checkpoints. That is, believe it or not, very different than save games stored locally. Still, I find it hard to believe that NVidia, Google or Nintendo wouldn’t have a patent for that already. If not, it may still be considered common use.

The devil is in the details for this issue. Is it really a new thing or is it “reverse” patent trolling?

I have no clue. VR has its uses, but it absolutely has no place in my daily life like the zuck wants to believe.

There would be more sympathy for Meta of they actually produced something innovative, but they aren’t. The screens and the lenses might be getting better and the device might be getting a few ounces lighter, but that is about it. Maybe augmented reality is getting a bit better? Whatever they are doing, it can’t justify the billions they have spent on it.

There needs to be a strike and a boycott of video games. I believe everyone is absolutely sick of being beta testers for unfinished AAA game releases.

I have been a Diablo fan for years but my last straw was Diablo IV. Not only is the game incomplete, Blizzard is going to charge for yearly expansions. If there was actual content in D4 to start, I would have gladly bought an expansion later. If future seasons anything like Season 1, Blizzard can fuck right the hell off.

What is sad is that Blizzard threw so many employees under the bus by having them lie about the game as well. That is seriously fucked.

Doesn’t matter. Regardless of what Unity said their “Enterprise” plan was, it doesn’t matter.

B2B deals just work differently since both companies have more at stake. If a company like EA used Unity, there is no way Unity would want to lose that contract and EA couldn’t afford to drop Unity. Large companies will likely go through a few short renegotiation meetings, if that.

Plus, lawyers. If Unity even tries to force this on its larger customers, they are going to be hauled into court and most likely lose. When they lose, Unity will likely be liable for court costs as well.
