Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford says his hopes on Epic Store were 'overly optimistic or misplaced' (www.tweaktown.com) angielski

I’m genuinely shocked how much Epic poured into the store and it still lacks so much basic features. Sorting games is still extremely barebones, store is filled with NFT/crypto garbage, the store still looks like a college student’s first front-end project, and last time I used the launcher to pick up free games (last year),...

rdri,

Are you serious? Obviously people don’t care about achievements on a platform that has almost no community-related functionality.

rdri,

I see. Still, I can see that for many people achievements with no value are no better than their absence. Platform provides value, and for now only steam provides a lot of it with almost each purchase.

rdri,

My profile is also not public but it’s visible to friends. Also I can make it public when I want.

There are also achievement statistics.

rdri,

If you mean just the percentage of users I might agree. But those people don’t really correlate with the users who provide most of the profit of the platform.

rdri,

Well did it help Epic when they added achievements? Guess not much. Either they never marketed this feature enough or most spending users never cared about achievements on Epic.

rdri,

Just decide that more than X inputs per second equals cheater, and measure that on the server side. No need to riddle users systems with code waste.

rdri,

You can also mash them without doing much work with your fingers, and no kernel level anticheat will detect that. If you really want, that is.

rdri,

Correct, it’s impossible. And anticheat will not help with identifying such complex cheats.

rdri,

The title seems off. What does it mean to be kept alive for N64 games if you still need assets to play those games in this form, and assets are basically illegal to share the same way roms are?

rdri,

“We will repeat in every sentence that we are not a for-profit emulator, we’ll be fine!”

Yeah.

rdri,

Is better than Red Alert? But is it better than Renegade?

Looking for emotional game recommendations angielski

My favorite games are Omori, Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds. I cried for hours at the end of those games, and I think the common point in them is high-quality emotional writing and stellar OST (music really affect me) and my attachment to the characters....

rdri,

30/60fps is always a developer choice

Yes, a choice to code and optimize the game properly or not is always the creator’s choice.

rdri,

Other people reply by how Pokemons are being in captive is a bad thing, and even though it’s logical, I know what the Pokemon anime is. Like most anime, it teaches children kind and nice stuff, and the captive thing is ignored likely because it can’t be applied in real world. No need to doubt - Pokemon is not bad for your child.

Palworld just allows too much freedom when compared to that. You either have to be an established person to understand what you’re doing or play with your parents so they explain what your actions mean.

rdri,

Some devs just enable raytracing and make it a requirement, to not care about properly optimized alternative lights and shadows stuff.

rdri,

Same as using an AI in games is not an AI problem.

rdri,

I mean, if the world makes it very convenient to use such instruments and call the task finished, this is not okay. I wish at some point we would come to conclusion that we need to optimize the code and software products to reduce CO2 emissions or something, so devs’ laziness finally becomes less tolerated.

rdri,

Pretty much every single decision you can see from their history since the inception of EGS is either stupid or blatantly destructive to gaming industry. Just some examples: better revenue shares for developers? Sure but this translates into worse platform. Money bonuses for exclusivity is great for developers? Sure but the game is then stuck at the platform that gives no means for users to interact and let developers know how they could improve their product. Cross platform multiplayer platform that works? Sure but then we have to deal with stupid requirements like having an account on additional platforms we may not want to use, even to play single player modes sometimes.

You can also check Tim’s Twitter and see how ignorant and hypocritical he is. I wouldn’t mind it but his decisions seem to actually affect the whole platform and therefore the industry so… too bad.

rdri,

Jokes on you but that is what it actually is.

Use of AMD Anti-Lag+ technology in Counter Strike 2 will result in a VAC Ban, Valve confirms (videocardz.com) angielski

AMD has made an oversight in implementing their new technology that poses a significant issue for Counter Strike 2 players who have opted to utilize AMD’s AntiLag+. Recently, AMD introduced a new 23.10.1 driver allowing players to access this technology in the game. However, it has now been confirmed that utilizing this...
