dan1101,

First thing I’ve heard about it and…pass

dan1101,

I think that 25% would be comprised of people that bought the game and haven’t had much time to play, or use console command right away and disable achievements. Speedrunners, modmakers, and general hackers would use console commands liberally as they should be the same as Fallout/Elder Scrolls games.

dan1101,

Bethesda didn’t do this sort of thing before Microsoft bought them.

dan1101,

Ignorance fought. Or bad memory.

dan1101,

I’m not sure, but if you have an Nvidia card you can limit FPS in Nvidia Control Panel. I did that for Starfield so I didn’t get the frequent 25-60 FPS swings.

dan1101,

Will it still be playable online co-op after Sep 30?

dan1101,

Not yet, might not be technically possible. I don’t think the planet surface really exists from orbit view.

dan1101,

The biggest letdown is the big continuous handcrafted open world is not there. In Skyrim you could walk from one end of the map to the other, encountering various handcrafted things and random events along the way, as well as NPCs on their daily routines. There really is no equivalent in Starfield. Still a great game, just not a sim and without a big seamless open world.

dan1101,

The trouble is jumping around to dots on the map is still fast travel with extra steps.

dan1101,

I think the traveling in Elite is great, but the rest of the content is grindy and/or very shallow.

dan1101,

Haha EA exec, that was explains everything.

dan1101, (edited )

What kind of game engine charges per install? Not per sale or even per user. Really bad precedent.

dan1101,

Mods can be installed to your Documents/My Games folder and a Starfieldcustom.ini file created with 2 special settings. Then Starfield should find them even on the Game pass version. See the instructions for various mods. The exception I believe are mods that use SKSE but I believe there is a workaround for that too.

dan1101,

Yeah as petty as some people are over games I can see a developer pissing them off and a bunch of players banding together to uninstall and reinstall games over and over. They could even script it. Bad idea all around.

dan1101,

Yeah they need to dial the predator/prey action down a bit. But it hasn’t been that weird IME. I mean you’re on an alien world with alien flora and fauna, that’s the remarkable part not that there are a lot of creatures fighting.

dan1101,

That’s pretty obvious from the planet surface and travel system. Apparently virtually every pixel of a planet surface is another procedurally generated map, but the UI and gameplay make them hard to access and not really useful anyway.

dan1101,

TLDW?

dan1101,

That’s what I feel, there are so many consumers now that products that aren’t good or exploit their users can still have a healthy market.

dan1101,

I’m assuming a storyline teaches you about outposts, but if that’s the case it’s also cool they let you do it without having to reach the story stage first.

dan1101, (edited )

I’m an Elite Dangerous veteran and have no problem with that. I think it’s more realistic.

I’m about 18 hours in and the illusion of variety hasn’t worn off yet. Plenty of things to find, with some travel time though. Unlock/upgrade your backpack boosters and it’s almost like Tribes though, as you go flying across the landscape in short bursts to keep moving forward in the air.

dan1101,

I didn’t give in for Starfield. But I’m tempted. I did instead spend a bunch of money on a new video card.

dan1101,

My favorite 4X games are:

-Civilization 4/5

-Distant Worlds 2

-Warlock Master of the Arcane

There are other games that would be my favorites but they just aren’t polished or rich enough, like Galactic Ruler and Pax Nova.

I like space 4x games, but exact setting isn’t as important as gameplay. I like unit/tech variety and logistics. Distant Worlds 2 has the appearance of my favorite game, but I wish many things were more fleshed out like building on planets.

dan1101,

I tried it on Gamepass but it didn’t grab me. I’m sure I will buy it again on a sale and give it another chance.

dan1101,

They barely know anything about the game at this point, they won’t expect it for several more years.

dan1101,

E3 was canceled in 2020 due to Covid and hasn’t been back since. There was no E3 in 2023. I have no idea why though.

dan1101,

I’m gonna run it on a 1050Ti, we’ll see what happens!

dan1101,

It’s going to depend on a lot of things, like how much system and video RAM you have, what you have running in the background, etc. I think it could be viable running on HDD under good conditions, but I remember needing to install games like Planetside 2 to SSD to stop the stuttering as you move around the map.

No Man's Sky Echoes Update Trailer (youtu.be) angielski

Meet a secret society of robotic aliens in update 4.4, ECHOES! Furthering the narrative introduced in INTERCEPTOR, explore the mysteries of the Autophage, perform their rituals, learn their language, and assemble your own ceremonial staff. In deep space, confront huge outlaw dreadnoughts, sweep through their trenches and destroy...

dan1101,

I wish I liked this game. It is exactly the sort of game I like, with seamless planetary landings and such. But I just have no enthusiasm for it.

dan1101,

That’s what they say about Elite Dangerous, but I played that game 254 hours. No Man’s Sky held me for maybe 5 or 10.

dan1101,

Looks interesting, kinda like Deep Rock Galactic mixed with LotR and Minecraft.

dan1101,

All I remember about this game is the Empire bases had a bunch of gaps you had to jump, and I was thinking “How are Stormtroopers navigating this on a daily basis?”

dan1101,

I found that Steam Link didn’t work very well over wifi, hopefully this does something different. Still, $199.99 to play your existing PS5 on a smaller screen seems like a lot to ask.

dan1101,

That has a lot of good stuff. I believe I saw V throw a guy into another guy, that’s new. And the vehicle combat and police overhaul should be good. I hope they tweaked the vehicle handling.

dan1101,

Hmm. Maybe they should call this Delta Force 2035 at least.

dan1101,

The Game Pass PC client and EA Desktop are great competition for worst client.

dan1101, (edited )

Ubisoft is currently developing Far Cry 7 and a standalone Far Cry multiplayer game.

It’s claimed that Far Cry 7 is being made with Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine, rather than the Dunia engine used for recent series entries. The multiplayer game is currently an extraction-based shooter set in the Alaskan wilderness, it’s claimed.

Oh crap. That’s not good. I know Far Cry 6 wasn’t great, but making FC7 multiplayer and an extraction shooter isn’t the answer. What’s next, Forza the card game?

ETA: Ubisoft is making Far Cry 7 AND a standalone Far Cry multiplayer game. I misread “as” instead of “and.”

dan1101,

Yeah I guess as long as the extraction game is in addition to the single player game, that’s great, those that want to play it can.

I like the Far Cry series as well. I recently finished Days Gone, which reminded me a lot of Far Cry 5 with a better story, and zombies.

dan1101,

Plus IIRC it opened during Covid. If I was going I’d need a few more years to make plans.

dan1101,

Unfortunately it seems not much like the original Delta Force games.

dan1101,

Not interested in supporting an Epic exclusive. Wake me when it’s $10 on Steam.

dan1101,

I might take the day off to play it, I took the day off for Distant Worlds 2 and had a blast. Self-care day. ;)

dan1101,

I don’t know if I will preorder but I will buy Game Pass for a month to try it out. And I’m interested enough to try it out first day.

dan1101, (edited )

Looks like Gamepass gets to play Sep 6, so it isn’t the “premium” edition that lets you play Sep 1. Oh well another 5 days won’t kill me.

ETA: Microsoft continues to do dumb things with pricing. Standard edition is $70, Premium edition is $100. Yikes, but ok. However, they sell a Premium edition upgrade for $35. Why does Standard + Premium upgrade cost more than Premium?

dan1101,

I’m with you on pre-ordering but GTA and Elder Scrolls games are my two exceptions. Not sure how I feel about Starfield, should be similar to an Elder Scrolls game since there is no online stuff to go wrong.

dan1101,

I subscribed for a year or so, other than the horrible client it was good. But there are just too many games to play and not enough time, a good problem to have but still. I also felt like I didn’t appreciate the games as much when I got them for “free.”

I started getting it for $1 per month by canceling and then resubscribing, now you can’t do that and I just don’t bother to subscribe at all.

Now with just 14 days for a $1 trial it’s an even worse deal. This is why I don’t think MS should be allowed to buy up all these game companies. Try contacting MS for support. If you can’t get through to someone in less than 10 minutes then they shouldn’t be buying any more companies. That should be the test for any company acquiring other companies. If they can’t serve the customers they have, how are more customers going to help?
