TexasDrunk,

I have a few of these running HoloISO running around the house to stream graphic intense games from my main rig and to run smaller games locally. Runs fine with a 680m iGPU and I never have to leave the room I’m in (garage included) to play games if I want.

It cost more than a console, but far less than the 5 consoles I’d have to put out for that kind of convenience.

TexasDrunk,

I thought you could hide those now.

TexasDrunk,

My gamer names are all based on an old nickname I got in the service. I’d just assume it was one of my navy buddies.

TexasDrunk,

My hometown is a meth joke. They could be talking about that.

TexasDrunk,

That’s someone whose job is to liaise and advocate for actors to the production crew for intimate scenes, especially nude and sex scenes.

TexasDrunk,

I miss the bloody hand in NESticle. I know it’s still there and all, but I don’t use it anymore and I haven’t seen it elsewhere.

TexasDrunk,

If I’m getting garbage pizza (yeah, sometimes you do want garbage) I’ll usually go to the Cici’s buffet. It’s worse, but I get to keep going back for the terrible dessert pizza and it’s dirt cheap.

TexasDrunk,

Also what happened to t_d on Reddit.

TexasDrunk,

Reasonable question! It was a sub called “the_donald”. It started with a bunch of folks saying outrageous things that were satirizing Trump and his followers. Unfortunately it wasn’t outrageous enough because it was slowly taken over by true believers who spouted the same outrageous shit because they actually believed it.

TexasDrunk,

At least it’s not still just Uwe Boll making adaptations.

TexasDrunk,

I cannot speak to Intelliviaion, but you can get 2600 replacement controllers. If you’ve still got them it’s also likely that you can get someone to repair them if the issue is the electronics.

TexasDrunk,

I remember the TechTV days before G4 took over. AotS was fun but never really replaced Screen Savers. Then G4 did whatever the fuck it did (mostly airing ghost hunters from what I remember) and went off air so we lost that too. Then there was the terrible attempt at revival a few years ago that failed spectacularly.

TWiT is still going though. Maybe something cool will come out of this.

TexasDrunk,

Yep. You can play alone, couch co-op with controllers, or with friends online if that’s what you’re into. I’ve logged a couple of hundred hours alone and another hundred or so couch co-op.

TexasDrunk,

Year before was Elden Ring. I’ve never played that one online.

TexasDrunk,

You’re going to miss content no matter how you play. It’s the nature of the game. Some decisions lock you out of options.

I can’t think of anything you’d inherently miss from couch co-op.

TexasDrunk, (edited )

Yeah, some folks don’t want to tinker and do like to play games with DRM that won’t work on Linux. It’s also a little more powerful than the Deck.

I love my deck so much that I broke my tinkering with computers outside of work hours rule in order to set up some Steam remote play boxes (HoloISO based) on mini PCs scattered throughout the house so I don’t have to be next to my gaming rig to play. I don’t really play anything online that has the Windows only DRM so Linux is great for me. But I get it when people have things they want to do and don’t have the time, know how, or desire to fuck with their systems.

TexasDrunk,

I’ve had exactly one problem using the built in remote play with Steam, and that was a bad update that was put out just a few months ago. I’ve got a few Bee Links with the 680m iGPU (I’m not home to check the model right now) so they were a few hundred bucks apiece which is a huge con for some folks. But that also allows me to play a variety of emulated games and games that aren’t graphically intensive locally if someone is streaming from another room.

So if I have a friend with kids over, we can play BG3 couch co-op in the bedroom or garage while the kids play Mario Kart or Hollow Knight in the living room. That’s worth it for me.

However, cheap Android TV devices work for a lot of people and I’ll never knock them.

TexasDrunk,

I can’t get into the whole debate because I’m not knowledgeable enough to articulate the difference between a genuinely good game and games using skinnerbox mechanics to force operant conditioning. However, I have an anecdote.

I used to play a mobile game that was mid level fun, but a very obvious skinnerbox with time based turns (energy? Mana stones? Hell, I don’t remember), daily and weekly battles, sporadic new releases where you had a chance to get some kind of cool stuff, and clan activities. I had to put it down for a couple of weeks due to real life and just never picked it back up. I still talk to some of the guys on discord but after not being on every day I stopped caring about the game entirely.

TexasDrunk,

I picked up BotW once the TotK started up. Everyone told me it was amazing and I had a few months between beating Elden Ring for the fifteenth time and when BG3 came out.

I’m glad people had such a good time playing the game and I’m very happy for them. However, it’s just not for me.

To be fair, I was an early Zelda fan. I played the hell out of every one of them up to Ocarina of Time when I was a kid (yes, even Adventures of Link) so I’ve probably got some bias at play.

So you prefer playing as another gender? (quanticfoundry.com) angielski

Well, as a guy, I’ve been asked multiple times why I systematically play games female characters in video games, to the point of skipping a game if I’m forced to pay a male one, with a few exceptions (I really liked Albus from Troubleshooters for example). Whenever there’s romance in a game, I’ll also take the F/F route....

TexasDrunk,

Also cishet dude. I’ve never even thought about why I very slightly prefer playing as a female avatar, but this feels about right to me.

That and Samus Aran, probably.

TexasDrunk,

I had a TI-99/4A (It’s part of the reason I’m a Texas Drunk) with the speech synthesizer peripheral. Everything sounded wild.

TexasDrunk,

I liked all the mini games in 7 and the card game in 8. However, due to nostalgia, my favorite is the sliding puzzle game in the first one.
