Stillhart,

“Hot Saucerman” is my favorite of the many. Solid reference!

Stillhart,

This is an “expansion” not a “DLC” according to CDPR. It’s a lot bigger than your normal DLC. Up to you if you think that’s enough.

I think it’s also a chance for them to try to find some redemption. Journalists have a lot to sink their teeth into with the whole meta story of the game so I think that might have added some encouragement.

Stillhart,

“Slightly less dogshit”? Have you played 2.0 yet? Have you even played 1.6? Doesn’t sound like it. They put in a ton of fixes an QoL in the last two years and this latest patch is just one more FREE update. They didn’t “fix some of the issues years later”. They fixed most of the issues over the last two years and now are providing optional new content. The redemption is that after fixing all that, the new content is apparently free from the issues that plagued the original launch.

And it’s VERY clear from the way you’re talking that nothing they do could redeem them in your eyes. I’m pretty sure they didn’t shit in your breakfast cereal so you can stop acting like they did. It was one bad launch, not a pattern of bad games or anything like that. And they worked hard to remedy the issue. Just because you want MORE free stuff than the content they’ve added in the last two years, doesn’t make them a bad company. Kinda makes you sound bad tho…

Stillhart,

The reviews so far have been fairly positive. I’m pretty eager to jump in to 2.0 tomorrow. I’ll have 5 days to get my new character ready for PL!

I just finished a playthrough a couple weeks ago with a Sandevistan+Katana build, which was SUPER fun! I was planning on going Stealth Netrunner for this play through but after seeing all the changes to the existing systems, I am tempted to go Sandy+Sword again. But I will probably control my urges and focus on Stealth to complement the “spy thriller” story of PL.

Stillhart,

That’s correct. v2.0 is included with the base game and comes out tomorrow (Sept 21). The expansion comes out 5 days later on Tuesday.

There are tons of changes with 2.0 that make it worth revisiting even if you don’t get PL.

Stillhart,

Yeah the crafting change is huge. It frees up a lot of points from “mandatory” crafting so you can really branch out more. Builds should be a lot more interesting and hard to screw up now.

The big change with cyberware that I like is 1 - You don’t have to go to every ripperdoc (or some online wiki) to find the bits you need anymore. Every ripperdoc sells everything. and 2 - You can upgrade it as you level so you don’t have to worry about “wasting money” buying low tier stuff early that you’ll have to replace later.

Stillhart,

Yeah and the new reworked Berserker cyberware to go with it! Gorilla Arms with the new relic perks to make them explode people from punching too hard… tempting indeed!

Stillhart,

Not to mention Fingers had the best Sandevistan and leg mods in the game and not punching him is SO HARD! Now neither of those mods are in the game anymore and you can safely beat the crap out of Fingers with no regrets.

Stillhart,

Honestly not sure what they can do to fix Starfield. Bug fixes and QoL aren’t going to help the systemic issues the game has.

Stillhart,

…did a countdown till midnight so that I can start playing at launch, and I even live streamed it (and also had a few other streams going on two laptops). Took the day off to play the game as well.

Every time I read stuff like this, I just shake my head, no matter what game is being discussed. I won’t say this has NEVER worked, but certainly not for the last decade or two. Games have just evolved to the point where big budget releases are always problematic right at launch. Whether it’s full of bugs like CP2077 or it has server issues like all the “live service” games, there is always something that makes playing right at launch just not viable.

Hope for the best, expect the worst.

Stillhart,

Looking forward to CP2077 so I can stop trying to have fun in Starfield. That game just is not doing it for me, as much as I try.

Stillhart, (edited )

Modding maybe, but that doesn’t help console players. An eat button and HDR settings are so hilariously inadequate that I think the people excited for those changes already like the game and don’t see the actual issues.

Stillhart,

The campaign is worth $4. The rest of the game was kinda meh, but the campaign was really entertaining.

Stillhart,

That explains why they look that way, it doesn’t explain why a AAA game in 2023 was allowed to ship that way, though.

Stillhart,

There’s a sucker born every minute. You might want to read up on that “game” before committing any money to it.

Stillhart,

GameStop is terrible for the industry. GameStop is chock full of terrible business practices. Fuck GameStop.

Stillhart,

I prefer Leisure Suit Larry, but I’ll upzipper any Sierra game!

Stillhart,

Have you played Katamari Damacy? I feel like it was a pretty obvious influence on Donut County.

PS - Donut County is on Gamepass for anyone who has it.

Stillhart,

Shame. If people keep paying for “head start”, companies will keep selling them and making bank off FOMO.

On the plus side, plenty of guides getting created so I can start tomorrow without fear of fucking up my first character too badly.

Stillhart,

You used to be able to literally brick your build (get to a point where it’s impossible to progress any further) in Bethesda games. I’m sure that’s changed now, but that paranoia lingers.

Stillhart,

Old news. We knew this was coming weeks ago and there was a big thread about it on here.

Stillhart,

Diablo 3 has great couch co-op. D4 has it too, but that game sucks. D3 is better, especially if it’s still new to you.

Stillhart,

Oh right, I forgot that people insist on humoring that change. I feel like if everyone keeps just calling it Twitter, he’ll just quietly change it back.

Regardless, X was used to represent a variable for about a thousand years longer than Musk has been using it, so I will keep using it that way too.

Stillhart,

We call this “The Full Asmongold”.

Stillhart,

That would at least be headline-worthy!

Stillhart,

Interesting to read the less than stellar reviews. I might try to hold off on this one and grab it on sale later, especially with Starfield coming out soon.

Stillhart,

I’m not really concerned about the aggregate score. I’m sure it’ll be a solid game. I’m just interested in the presumed flaws. Like any product, reading the details of the negative reviews is often far more revealing than the gushing reviews.

Stillhart,

I have Gamepass so I’m not paying for Starfield. :-D (I know I sound like a broken record, but Gamepass is easily my favorite subscription service that I pay for these days, when it comes to entertainment value per dollar.)

But yeah, getting AC6 first and waiting on Starfield instead is not a bad option if you don’t have Gamepass. Starfield will only get better over time with patches and mod support. AC6 will probably not change significantly over time.

Stillhart,

IGN review said they tried it briefly and it worked fine, but no info about crossplay.

Stillhart,

they come with codes for virtual items as well.

Ooh, this is a great compromise. I like this idea!

Stillhart,

I am pretty excited for it. I’m going to try to hold off on buying it though. I’m still working through BG3 and Starfield comes out a week after AC6. Then not too long after that, the Cyberpunk DLC drops and I’m REALLY excited for an excuse to replay that game. I also still haven’t even started FF16.

I’m hoping that by the time I actually have time to play AC6, I can snag it on sale. There are so many amazing games coming out this month and next, it’s a very exciting time to be a gamer!

Stillhart,

If I can play games at full quality without having to buy a $1000 graphics card every couple of years, I can see streaming catching on in my household. That’s a pretty big “if” though…

I imagine being in other countries where gaming rigs are a much bigger deal, budget-wise, streaming will hold an even larger appeal. It’s probably why the streaming thing is the holdup in Europe but the US regulators don’t care.

Stillhart,

First time trying a new game at launch?

Pro-tip: plann for queues and crashes for the first day at least.

Pro-tip #2: maybe read or watch a review before buying. That game looks terribad and reviews aren’t particularly good.

Stillhart,

Yeah it is unfortunate. But “hope for the best, expect the worst” serves me well in life and is particularly apt when it comes to video game launches.

What is up with Baldur's Gate 3?

This is not a criticism - I love how much attention this game has been getting. I’m just not understanding why BG3 has been blowing up so much. It seems like BG3 is getting more attention than all of Larian’s previous games combined (and maybe all of Obsidian’s recent crpgs as well). Traditionally crpgs have not lit the...

Stillhart,

Hey, leave the accountants out of this! We count things, we don’t set policy.

Stillhart,

Same. And I grew up on Champions of Krynn and Eye of the Beholder and Pools of Radiance, so Baldur’s Gate was mind blowing when it came out. BG2 was even better!

I haven’t played a CRPG in a while. Never got into DoS series, etc. But there’s no way I was missing BG3 after the rave reviews it was getting, considering my history with the series.

Stillhart,

This hits all the points pretty succinctly. Nice.

Stillhart,

I wish Amazon worked that way. Sort by reviews and you get random Chinese garbage with 1 5* review from the importer’s mom.

Stillhart,

I’m with you there. I regret buying D4 and it’d probably the last Blizzard game I’ll ever buy unless MS cleans house when they acquire them.

Stillhart,

It’s been bugging me in BG3. Mostly because it takes a while to load and when it’s finally loaded, I have to press a button then WAIT AGAIN for a stupid animation before getting to the main menu so I can then load some more.

Gimme a command line to just automatically “Continue” please. The pretty animtions and menu were fun at first. Now I just want to get back to my brain parasites as quickly as possible. I’m sure that has nothing to do with my brain parasites.

Stillhart,

Will those work in linux?

Stillhart,

Thanks for the tip! Looking into it, I don’t see the game files anywhere, just mods. Do you have to pirate it? I owned it 20 years ago, but I don’t exactly have the CD’s sitting around anymore.

Stillhart,

I too am playing on Linux after making the switch last month. BG3, surprisingly, runs perfectly right out of the box. No settings changes, no command line parameters, nothing. Hasn’t crashed once. I’m really impressed.

Stillhart,

I picked this up a few weeks back to see what the hype was about. Did nothing for me. Might be because I’m sick to fucking death of the “open world adventure” genre… they all feel like reskins of the same game I’ve been playing since, oh I dunno, Assassin’s Creed 1?

Hogwarts does nail the feel of Harry Potter but that’s not enough to keep me interested in a genre that’s played out.

Stillhart,

Damn you…

Stillhart,

Just want to report that I’ve been hopelessly obsessed with BitBurner since I saw you recommend it over a month ago. Thanks!
