Same exact experience. Then someone from Reddit messaged me some non spoiler wary game tips and I went back in and played 130 hours. It was my first souls game since PS3 Demon’s Souls. I ended up loving it. But I fucking hated it at first, and I don’t blame anyone for being turned off.
I’m not far enough into paltopialand to really say, but at the beginning and five hours in, it runs at 142FPS and never drops *at max settings. Its performance is really remarkable for an early game.

I skipped to a random sentence six minutes in and got a heady double-tone single-syllable word. Could be indicative of voice compression/altering software (lotsa podcasts use a filter to make their voice sound more… podcasty?)
I don’t have a PS5, but I have a couple Dualsense controllers. Some games BLOW ME AWAY on controller. Returnal with haptics and adaptive triggers? INSANE. I wouldn’t play it with any other control method.
You’re not wrong at all. I tried a few years ago on a high end machine with awful results. Now, thanks to incredible devs, even a lil Steamdeck can run tons of games better than an actual PS3.

Agreed fully that TotK story is much much better that BotW.
I went straight from BotW to Elden Ring though, so they took my score down. Elden’s gameplay, story, and world are unmatched by any other open-world game. The world is so full and flush and ALIVE. There’s oodles of empty space in the open-world Zelda games, and there’s so few enemy types. I still love the games, but as a late late Elden Ring adopter, I have a new impossible standard for a world… that’s open.
